I'm not sure if you still use this but I tried to reach out to you via gmail and had no luck. I'm a writer that would really like to use your piece title "Somewhere" for my upcoming memoir. If by chance you read this please let me know a valid email that I could get in contact with you. Oh yea really enjoy your work as well, keep up the good work.
Derek

You handle your hair MUCH better in "Reflections": [link] than you did in"Contour Self Portrait": [link]
Also, in the Contour Self-Portrait it looks like you are too focused on eyes/nose/mouth, and as a result you skew the face a bit so the eyes are viewed straight on.
I think that "Reflections" is definitely the most successful. I feel like the inkwash you used kinda got things flowing a bit. What I would suggest is to avoid drawing your face straight on at all cost. Try drawing from a profile or 3/4 view, or even better... draw from a 3/4 view of the BACK of your head (you nailed the back of you head in Reflections). And dont worry about getting the paper dirty (again, Reflections is the best example of what I think you should be doing, like with the ink wash). If you are using Arches you can really tear into that thing before you hurt it.
If you are taking Intermediate Drawing next semester I will be in that class. George Donald is freakin awesome and I wanted to take his class again before I graduate
Keep up the good work! What you are doing now reminds me A LOT of what I was doing in Drawing II: [link]
Just keep at it and soon you will find the groove that works for you, and then BAMPH! Your work will take off!

Thanks for the great advice! It's funny because I've heard Rivers say all of that, but I never really listen.
I'm really excited because Kevin Haran showed a bunch of his drawings to the class today, and they were pretty inspiring. I'm going to try to use an acrylic wash for intercross. And I'll try and draw things other than the face (I don't know why I have such a strong desire to do frontal views on faces... I guess I have to force myself to go outside of my comfort zone.)
I don't think I'm going to UCF next term, so I probably won't be in that class. I'm most likely going to DMAC in Boca Raton. I hate to miss out on that class though, it seems awesome :/
Anyways, thanks again for the advice, I really appreciate it :]

No Problem. Yeah, I would definitely listen to Rivers, he taught Haran, and Ahearn, and I am learning SOOOO much from him. He is a great great inspiration.
I think the desire to draw the face comes from the fact that it is the most distinct human feature. What I tend to do when drawing from life though is to forget about the face and draw the body instead, then if I still have time during the pose I go back and try to add some more detail. Some of my most recent stuff, and any of my stuff from Crealde, is all like that. I should be posting some more soon that also shows the same thing.
