Maybe you should be more precise, I'd like to know what the comments are.

I think some comments need to be quite raw and foul. I mean, if that's what the viewer felt, then that's what the viewer should express, anything less would be to lie.

I understand the concept of constructive criticism, but dressing up three bimbos and using them for nothing more than a prop in a Christmas setting is fucking disgusting, period. It is not art.

Constructive criticism will be given if there is something to be done with the picture but using women to sell artless and shit pieces of art is degrading and hurting the art community in general. I'd take even more extreme measures if I would have designed this site, I would have made an artless category and directed all the softcore porn into that direction.

You seem so proud of supporting porn, then what the fuck are you doing in this community? This is an art site, not a place to get off. It's people like you that are destroying the purity and the true essence of what people like me try to sustain.

So insecure school girls should fuck off, old perverted predators should fuck off and if you support porn on dA that much, then you should get the fuck off this web site as well. There are plenty of porn sites but this isn't one of 'em.

My comment was in reference to the comment you left pinksugar. Before bashing her for her cold comments, perhaps you should make a reference to the pictures in question. I don’t think she claimed being a successful artist, perhaps she just has a refined taste for art, or maybe she likes prude pieces (nude or not) and feels like voicing her resentment towards foul photography. She might also have reasons for thinking the way she does, perhaps her background is relevant, you don’t really know anything about her, so… without a proper discussion on the pieces in question, no progress can be achieved. And if there is nothing to achieve than you discussion was futile to begin with, unless your only intention was to insult her.

Art is subjective, no matter how successful the person is at it, her opinion is still valid. Not everyone will appreciate the same pieces and some people like to point out, and some rather loudly, their objections. I know I do when it comes to photographers that demean that profession or style of art. I’m not saying art is pure, we all know how fucked up artists really are, and everyone who knows me knows that’s I’m pretty fucking out of sync with reality but still, there’s a line between not respecting yourself and not respecting your work and the people you work with.

So please, message me the links, I’d like to hear your thoughts and opinions further about these pieces.

my intention really wasnt to insult her. i added i like what she writes, and this is true.

anyway, i found different comments but i have no pics in my faves and i cant find a link. but im sure she knows what im talkin about.
in particular, there was a pic of two girls kissing in a lake. it wasnt the greatest pic in this whole universe, and i personally found it a bit too *hot*...but she wrote this poem about how bad that pic was - she meant "technically", sorry it's so difficult for me to explain this in english, she wrote it was a snapshot and not a pic, said something about photography rules (rule of the third or similar). i personally found the pic quite well done so i thought "oh she makes such clever and technically correct comments, her gallery must be great" and i went to her gallery, sure i was to find out some great art.
i was like O__O ... some where good shots indeed (and i say GOOD...not exceptional neither professional, they - like my art - were surely below average here on DA) but some other were nothing more than random photos which might have a menaing for her but surely werent more than "myspace photos"...like [link] , [link] , the "girl night" series and so on. I personally cant understand ppl publishing random photos here like it was flickr, but i cant just stay here and watch when someone doing this COMMENTS on other ppl photos...PROFESSIONAL photos.

As i said, i had never written such a comment before, but i just...HAD to. that's all.

An object of sympathy is perhaps what you have become. People pay you compliments and you are nasty to them. People say your photography is good and you swear at them. I know your English is not 100% and maybe, just maybe you have misunderstood. Unfortunately, your language and attitude have become so bad that you have obviously lost touch with the real world. I made my living as a Professional Photographer. I think 40 years of experience gives me the right. I said they were full of promise. "We" can always do better. Trying and learning is half the joy. You mistake constructive criticism for something else. Don't be offended if someone tells you something. Either take it as a lesson or ignore it. It is your choice. What you are doing in the real world is of little interest and no consequence. If you choose to post photos in a public venue ( DA ), then you must realize that the public are going to make comments. If you don't want comments, don't post. As far as reading photography magazines, I often do. I sometimes even read the ones that I have written for. I have a life. You need to grow up and find one for yourself instead of crapping on everyone else. You are bitter.... I don't know why. I will remember you as the pretty lady, in the water, with the flower in her hair. She seemed so much happer than you . Have a nice life....

The fact that you deem her former pictures artistic when she herself has admitted in the past were taken solely for the sake of attention makes you an amateur at best. The lady in the water with the flower in her hair? Are you collecting these? From her confessions, I can clearly understand why she doesn’t want to do this anymore but you obviously don’t or don’t want too.

She’s now paying attention to lighting, colors, shapes, lines and you’re saying that it’s negative? She’s no longer shooting with a point and shoot camera but with various lenses, using external lighting, using various techniques to broaden her abilities as a photographer and you’d rather have her go back to an onboard flash units and cheap equipment, spread out on her bed with distracting backgrounds? She’s trying to fine tune her senses to be able to capture essence before skin and you put her down? And you call yourself a photographer? …don’t make me laugh. You have no concept of art and judging by your gallery, you don’t have much concept of beauty or photography either.

Here’s the worst part, she’s asking for respect and you try to manipulate her by making her feel like defending the last shred of decency she can find is wrong. You even fail at being a compassionate person.

All these people come on here and flame her for trying to preserve what she now holds dearest. She cannot reclaim the innocence lost and is trying to move on. She sold her body for a few petty comments from idiots like you, next time she appears nude or captures anything nude, she wants to make sure that it won’t simply be for their, (and perhaps your own) carnal contentment.

I never said her former pictures were artistic, I said that they showed promise. There is a major difference. I never commented on the "nudity" aspect, I liked the simple joy that she seemed to radiate. It appeared, at the time, that she was having fun and, isn't that what photography should be? Where did I suggest anything to do with cheap equipment or substandard flash units? Did she ever take photos while stretched out on her bed? If she did, I don't remember either seeing them or commenting on anything like that.

My issue is not with the fact that she does not want to "do this anymore". That I can understand. My issue is with the tone and language that she uses. A simple comment meant as a compliment causes a tirade of profanity that is not needed or, in many cases, is totally inapropriate. Simply ignoring unwanted comments would be a much more adult way to deal with feelings.

You say she is asking for respect. "F" this and "F" that and shove it up your ass etc., will not win respect. Where do you get the idea that I am trying to manipulate her. I would love to see her get respect for her photography but, I would also like to see an attitude adjustment. People come on and flame her? I don't think so. She has flamed some of those who have tried to support her.

I would suggest that before you start making judgements and comments that you return to grade school, relearn something about the english language, retake whatever classes you failed in reading and try to understand that "Fuck You" is not the answer or the path to regaining respect for what she obviously did in error or misguided need. Telling the world to Fuck Off is defending the last shred of decency she can find. My guess is that you are the type of person who would believe that a pedophile who volunteers time to help with kids is doing a good thing.

I am compassionate. I have compassion for people who deserve compassion. I don't tollerate fools and idiots very well. She is ( or was ) misguided ( and we all make mistakes ) but has "foolishly" tossed away any right to compassion simply by demonstrating a total lack of maturity or decorum. You seriously need to double check before posting in an on-going discussion, this whole thread, which is featured on her page, started with pictures of herself naked on a branch wearing a fur hat.

This is a free community and there are rules of etiquette but like you pointed out, good manners are reserved to people who offer sincerity. Kim seems to have had an epiphany, her eyes are open and her heart unchained by the needs that once bounded her with fear. She is choosing to forego the tired efforts of a sorrowful soul and seems to be on a spiritual artistic quest. She doesn’t tolerate empty comments that are offered to naked teenagers that spread for old vultures, she is no longer easy prey. The fact that none of these self-proclaimed artists gets her new pieces glorifies her work, she no longer aims to please anyone but herself and anyone that criticizes her for doing so is judged accordingly.

She is only starting to see the true beauty in life, she is only starting to ‘feel’ and sincerely open up. But her insecurities are not on trial, she does not need to justify herself to anyone for acting the way she does.

Still, the following is but one example of the shit she dealt with and there are tons of such examples in her notes, this one is from a 38 year old man and Kim just turned 18 at the time.

“[Sic]…when you take naked photos why don'T you make a better prep.to your skin - for ex your lovely nipples or skin (I mean a bit oily or little shear skirt on you)”

So instead of bickering about how she swears and uses the word “fuck” too much, perhaps you should offer critical comments on her recent work. I’m also wondering if you are in any way trying to defend these perverts. If you have any respect at all for your work, for your models, for art, then you would not tolerate such comments. You should now clearly understand the reason for her loose tongue. Now the shitheads are following her to her new account... expect this to get worst before it gets better.

You make some valid points and I, in no way, am trying to either defend or validate the mindless idiots who post the "sick" comments. Kim is certainly not the only female to suffer from the mindless and "in poor taste" comments that do get posted. While I would not tolerate them either, I don't think that, figuratively speaking, answering a hand grenade with a nuclear device is necessary or justified either.

That being said, I will stand by my comments regarding Kim's behaviour. I said her photography showed promise. That "is" a critique, not an off colored remark. I am glad she had found a new direction to follow with her camera. Like you said, there are rules of etiquette and sounding like a $2.00 whore when she could have ( or still should ) use her intelligence instead of relying on the shock value of a potty mouth, would better serve putting the 38 year old idiots in their place. I checked Kim's new page and I will also stand by my old comment. Shows promise!
