Hm, let's see. The biggest thing is just watch how flat you iron them. If they get too flat, the edges get too wide to snap together. I've had to remake a few sides because of this before. But if you don't iron them enough, they make not snap together without beads breaking off It can be tricky.
Also, if you are trying to create your own 3D model, just try and try again. Pretty much every different one I've made has gone through at least two revisions after I got it all finished and realized I could come up with a more efficient way to design it, if it even worked at all the first time. Let alone, just getting the dimensions correct. Also, just make sure to let them cool enough before trying to snap them together. Even if they feel pretty cool, if they are cold, they will snap together that much easier with less chance of beads breaking off.
Feel free to ask if you have any other questions!

Not that it helps you now, but I'm hoping to eventually get instructions up for some of the stuff I have done. Otherwise, starting with cubes is a good place. Either dice, or mario blocks or something.

i made a companion cube..but that was with step by step instructions. i'll probably have to sketch something out on paper to figure out where to put the parts that snap together.

Yeah, I've thought about sketching on graph paper, and might for my "instructions" or something.. But I am impatient and for planning, just lay out all the sides with the edges lined up and just remove the beads it would take to snap them together. This works great for the 5 pieces that can match right up, it's getting the "top" piece figured out that gets tricky.
Also, if you have to attach pieces, where to place the holes, and then adding the extras to the add-on piece to allow them to snap in. For some reason, it just "clicks" in my head. But again, I have had to redesign pretty much everything at least one time.

oh wow how did you make your melting beads 3D? when i was a kid i never even thought there was a way you could do that

PixelSculptures In reply to Crotchmonsoon [2012-02-26 02:39:20 +0000 UTC]
The cubes are the most simple. They are just 6 sides melted so the edges are like --__--__--__-- and then the sides they match with go __--__--__--__ so they basically just snap together. The more complicated ones are mostly just cubes linked together with a variety of techniques. I have yet to use any glue, just lots of clever bead placement and snapping There are all kinds of examples here on DeviantArt if you look around. Or check out my favorites and go to the 3D section and you will see a bunch. Some people snap cubes like I do, some people stack layer to achieve 3D. All kind of ideas!

Thank you. Most of my designs are just copies from Minecraft, but I appreciate it. I haven't been working as much as I wish I was, but with work, family, baby, etc, it's just hard to find time..
