So Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were announced today, you hyped for that? Personally, gen 3 was a huge nostalgia point for me, so I'm extremely pumped.

To put it bluntly, if I owned a Gameboy Advance and already played one of the Hoenn games, I would not even buy it. As much as I like Pokemon franchise (the games, at least), it's formulaic to a huge fault. Still 3 starters, grass water fire, still 8 gyms, no more no less, evil team to beat up and elite 4 and champ at the end to name a few traditions that should have been twisted about or flat out ditched long before now.
Remakes only made the issue even more in your face, and I sorely regretted taking many of my friend's advice on getting Heart Gold - they didn't even try to solve some of the issues that the original gen 2 games had such as level scaling and pokemon variety. Made me wonder why I just didn't play Crystal again.
Like I said, only reason I'm getting it is because I never played a Hoenn game, but as much as I dislike the idea of remaking games in a very formulatic series of games as it is, it's entirely possible it could cement itself as my favourite pokemon game, but that mainly boils down to how good the gen 3 games originally were unless they make fairy big changes (hopefully changes that improve them) to the games.

Really, I don't see how the formula could change for the better. A curveball in the tradition would be very interesting to see, but as for these remakes, I am looking forward to the revisit to gen 3. The remastering of the tracks, the graphics, and possible the addition of recent gameplay mechanics could take these games and make them into something really special. Gen 3 was the generation that jumped out of the old formula as much as possible. There were new teams, a new set of Pokemon, a completely separated region, and a huge change in mechanics. Instead of a series of terrorist attacks that Rocket was notorious for, Aqua and Magma essentially tried to change the world to suit their own needs. Their actions seemed much more grandiose compared to Rocket.
Aside from that, there are a few annoyances I hope they rectify this time around such as the obscene amounts of WATER and the overwhelming number of trumpets in the OST. The OST in itself was great, but the mp3 capabilities of the 3DS could really do it justice.

I'm in the process of editing the spin-off to fix continuity, grammar and just to generally tighten things up. After I'm done with that, I'll add a new chapter and then get on part 21. I promise I'll get 21 done before the end of the year!
