# About me
Hello, Fellow Artists! Welcome to a world of weird sculpture, much-too-earthly "aliens", and hopefully some more maps. One of my most in-depth ongoing projects is one by the name of Gossipiboma, a planet filled with those much-too-earthly aliens and some very interesting plants.
I also write pseudoclassical and fake folk music arranged for strings, mostly.
Oh, and, uh...
FRUMPY TACO!!!!!!

I'm doing pretty well, thanks! I've just had a lot of things going on in my life that have distracted me from my usual Deviantarting. Nothing serious, though. I've been working on a lot of abstract pieces lately, and I'm planning on uploading those. I'm also considering revisiting Gossipiboma, so we'll see where that goes. Thank you for your concern!

Like the webcam. Something I can't figure out is why would a sea cucumber... why would ANYTHING need to have teeth in its anus of all places!
There's a sea cucumber called the "Five-toothed sea cucumber" that has five tooth-like denticles at the end of its anus for reasons I cannot explain.

Hey man what are your figures made out of? They arent for sale are they?

PousazPower In reply to Chirostenotes123 [2010-06-04 22:32:32 +0000 UTC]
They're mostly Super Sculpey (a polymer clay) with a wire and foil armature.
They're not for sale, because I can't really figure out a way to ship them (they're pretty fragile).

I don't know... I saw these guys on NOVA on PBS recently and started looking at Metasepia videos.

I'd seen these guys before, but I hadn't noticed that they used flaps on the rear of their mantle for walking in addition to the two modified tentacles. That makes them all the more cute and vertebrate-like. I am not biased.
The pulsing zebra stripes are always awesome, too.

Oh yes, I'm trying to think about how their flaps could evolve if there was pressure to modify them further. (Land Cuddles?)
I've seen these guys but I wasn't aware that they walked most of the time.

I think it would be difficult to modify the mantle "limbs" into more powerful appendages, seeing as the mantle isn't that attached to anything. Perhaps the limbs could be anchored to an enlarged cuttlebone?
Speaking of which, how big is that buoyancy organ in an animal that spends its time on the ocean floor?

Very small actually, it's the reason it walks. They regulate buoyancy with the cuttlebone.
Looking at the cuttlebone's shape, it would seem not many genes would be needed to maintain its shape. I suppose it could go through gene duplication to allow for more complex shapes to evolve for the cuttlebone... Hmmm, this make for new spec. bio. possibilities!
I'll need to learn how to draw a cuttlefish first! Off to the drawing board!

I don't know all that much about cephalopod ontogeny, but perhaps the genes that prevent the formation of a complex belemnite-like shell could be turned off and a more complete shell with all the accessory parts could be generated. Perhaps the cuttlebone part of the shell (the phragmocone) could be lost and replaced with the more heavy components. That way, Metasepia could stay negatively buoyant and enlarge the cuttlebone to form a kind of pelvis. Judging by the shapes of the shells of extinct cephalopods, that form seems plausible.
