I'm tempted to say post, but there's the whole "Needing the original poster's approval" thing to think about...
He's not inactive, but he doesn't interact with anyone...
Gahh...Perhaps you could email it to people who are interested?

WhatΒ "Needing the original poster's approval" thing would that be?
I could email them if anyone asks (and if I'm still checking my dA messages).
Also, message edited to include the link to Conversion Bureau: Pride.

Unless you're Priderage, usually it's taboo to post work that doesn't belong to you, although sharing it is a whole 'nother can of worms that varies from person to person, so meh...

you came up in a conversation i was having with a friend when i realized i hadn't heard anything from you in 5 months. Any chance i could convince you to post a journal update just to let everyone know how you're doing?

I don't think I ever dropped you a line to show my appreciation. "Arddun Lleuad" was one of the first pony stories I ever read, and it blew my mind to bits. Here was a story that broke all the rules and got away with it, while being charmingly British in a way I didn't think was still allowed. I remember being glued to the screen, wondering what would happen next and occasionally thinking, "Oh no he didn't!"
Then there was the sequel, which suffered for being unpolished, but made up for it with its ending's sheer wowing effect.
"Arddun" was one of my inspirations to write about ponies. Now, I'm also a Pony Fiction Vault alumnus, for a story involving a human (fancy that). It was positively surreal -- my work, up there with Pride's.
I still miss the stories that might have been, but I'm glad you're doing well. Thanks for the wild adventure.

Huhzfuwcrikey. Blimey and wow and other endearing terms showing amazement.
That's what we do, though. Any of us who are creative. We read or experience others' works and that sets off our imaginations and our brains just become idea factories, the managers get whipped and the workers stop sleeping on the job. This is exactly what happened to me when I read the NES Godzilla Creepypasta. I ended up mailing the author in the exact same way you just contacted me, and he probably felt the same way I feel now. Chances are someone will read yours and this'll just keep on going. Hopefully.
That's not the only effect our stories have, too. Just one of many. One of potentially dozens. Bends your mind thinking about it.
Fingers crossed I take some good out of this and go crack down on Gwydion...

It really is the gift that keeps on giving. And hey -- if you ever feel discouraged, just re-read some old fan mail. I've found it's an excellent tonic.
By the way, I see none of your stuff is on Fimficton. I really think it should be there, so new people can find it more easily. I understand if you'd rather not do it yourself, but I would be more than happy to, with your permission. May I?

I keep checking in, but not enough is happening! I may dread it a little bit, considering the hinted backstory, but I really want to see Gwydion NOW!
Wait... Stop that, me... Let him work in peace. Must be patient.
Thanks for the chat over my sketch from a while back!

I hate to say it, but Gwydion's not even outlined. Having tremendous issues with it; good ideas, general developments, but I'm lacking something I can call a really cohesive story. It will be a long time, I'm afraid. Don't wait for me.

Ugh. Yes, but Gwydion, god damn. It's a real pain; it's coming up a year now, and I still don't have a solid outline. It's new territory, urban fantasy, and I can't find any other superhero-in-modern-world books like Gwydion. The closest I've found is a book called Hero, which uses far more Superman-esque themes and isn't at all like Gwydion.
However, I am having many more ideas for other novels. And who knows what I've been cooking up in the background? Sadly, I think it'll be a matter of years before I finally start making serious headway as a fledgling novelist.

It does take time, but trying to rush it is only going to make it more frustrating. I am currently taking a creative writing class at my college and that is the one truth they have beaten me over the head with. Ira Glass has this amazing quote:
βNobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, itβs just not that good. Itβs trying to be good, it has potential, but itβs not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesnβt have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone Iβve ever met. Itβs gonna take awhile. Itβs normal to take awhile. Youβve just gotta fight your way through.β
I believe can do it. Everyone who has watched you has done so because they believe you can too.
(P.S. sorry if all this was uncalled for or unnecessary, but you seemed a little frustrated. Just trying to help.)

Priderage In reply to Scrooples [2012-09-14 21:21:13 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. Damn right I'm frustrated. But I know what that taste is, that Ira's referring to. I need my stories to make sense, I need them to work as real tales when you look back on them, and I need them to feel natural. I've felt exactly what she's talking about, and I've known that it's vital to cultivate it for a long time. Recently I started reflecting back on what made me love Gwydion so much, love the idea; it's resulted in a return to roots.
It's an excellent quote. If I ever get around to making that inspirational wallpaper I keep intending to make, that's going up on it.
I'm glad I've got bronies like you cheering from the wings, Scroops. It's hard not to keep going when I think about you guys.

Priderage, I'm a great admirer of your work,( I've even printed Arddun and Chwe to read them every time I could as it should have been, a real book!)and I don't like showering artists with praise, but your work touched me so much. Chester and Luna's Relationship was incredibly well built, they almost seem to jump out of the book every time I read it. Your prose is brilliant, the story is catching and I the emotions feel extremely real. I'm just a short story writer, but I wish you the best of luck with your future works, Sir. You truly are one fo the greatest writers among the pony fandom, and your works inspired me to continue writing. Have a wonderful afternoon.

Oh...crikey. Woof. I tend to go through comments the same way some people go through my stories - slowly, word for word, sentence by sentence, taking in the meaning of one before starting another, and hearing you _printed_ Arddun 1 and 2 leaves me light-headed. It's moments like these - and people like you - that steel my resolve. Wish me luck with Gwydion, because I am certainly going to need it.
And thank you, ever so goddamn much.

So I just finished CG... That story captured me in a way no piece of literature ever has. Many stories have invoked a powerful sad response from me, but never before have I felt such hatred, fear, and joy by someone's work. Thank you!

It's an honour, Scroops. It was a rough draft, and there were things that were missing (quite a few near the end - for example, Nightmare Moon was meant to be an actual character, and the climax with the Enemy was...a bit more...impressive), but even so. It's awesome to think of it having an effect on people. It's a phenomenal feeling.

Pride, I recently found your Arddun Lleuad on fanfiction.net, and I have to say... wow. You had me captivated from start to finish. The way it was written... incredible. I know you said some things... in your farewell, and that I hope I'm not breaching your wishes by leaving you a message on your DA.
Anyway, your writing is utterly amazing. I know your mind says it isn't, but know that I truly think you are a wonderful writer. You are perhaps one of the most gifted writers I have ever had the pleasure of reading works from, and it breaks my heart knowing you have to leave.
Now this isn't a request for you to come back, and I know you said you would never forget us in your farewell, but I want to ask just that: never forget us. If there is, at any time, in your future where you can finish Chwe or the third chapter of the Arddun trilogy(sorry, I have no idea how to spell it), I think there would be many, many others besides me who would consider it absolutely amazing if you could finish it.
But! I know you have a life, so don't feel bad if you can't ever get to it. And if you do read this, know that I appreciate what you have done for the brony community. As for your version of the pony universe that you created, I think that when I myself have some time, I'll honor you in the best way I can: by continuing your story, in some way.
Be it artwork or literature, or a combination of both, I will make something in your honor. That's the inspiration you have given me, Pride. Take pride in that. (excuse the "pun").
Wishing you well in the great journey that is life,
Iyrdin

Pride...i hope this message gets to you. CG, i love the story, while yes it does have its flaws, which story doesnt. It is a good story overall. and it pains me to see such a good writer as your self leave the fandom. I loved your first story to death, and i love your second story too. You are a talented writer with a good imagination. I wish you would keep writing stuff like this, but its your choice...for all i care you could write a story of 3 guys getting tacobell for dinner and just sittin around having small talk, i would still love it. I am a Loyal fan to your stories, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise. You are one of my favorite authors, and i WILL print your story into a hardcover book so i can read it on the go. while i hope someday that you write another fic, there will always be a place in my heart for you and your stories.
i hope you do read this soemtime because i want to show you that atleast one person will always tresure your fics.
