I loved the brief Spaceknights series that Marvel tried. Even though they couldn't use Rom's name, Liberator was pretty cool and the rest of the new Spaceknight squadron were well done. Shame it didn't go anywhere.

it didn't go anywhere cause i don't think anybody liked it. pretty much none of the old school Rom fans have been happy with Marvel's attempts continue the legacy since they lost the rights. marvel could have done a better job with it then they have. it's pretty much why i don't buy new marvel comics any more, just back issues.

i didn't at all care for the Manga inspired new spaceknight designs from that mini-series. but i actually think the Annihilators and the more recent Hybrid appearance in Avengers Academy were the worst affronts to the Rom mythology.

I haven't read it. Perils of being poor. Still, I'm not a fan of them bringing back Hybrid at all. He wasn't banished like the wraiths. Brandy disintegrated him with Rom's neutralizer the last time they met, if I remember right.

in the mid 90s there was an issue of X-Man in which Hybrid made his first come back since the Rom series ended. it was a really well written issue and explained in detail how he was able to reform himself. but in Avengers Academy they just had him appear in the story with out any explaination it was really lame.

Ah, that explains it. I had to give up comics in the early 90's. Sucks when you have to pay for them on your own. After that my reading has been sporadic. Still, I would have rather that he stayed dead. Even a well written resurrection takes away from the heroism that was necessary to kill him. Just my opinion.
I wonder why they bothered to bring him in. He's a very niche villain and doesn't work well in too many stories. His abilities would let him fit in many but his focus has always been rather narrow.
