I hope so!! c':
And oooh man really?? c: I was really BIG into him for awhile, and now it comes and goes. I admit Marvel's kind of stolen my previous dedication to Batman with the Avengers & Co but, I still have a lot of love for the Batman franchise.

Ah, well my favourite on-going series was Ultimate Spiderman, right up until what happened to that Peter Parker, and I haven't read it since then...
I keep thinking I want to get into Marvel comics, but I've only got so little money I can spend on comics, and I'm collecting several DC books so, I keep not getting around to it
But as much as I mainly read DC, I don't really put one company above the other. Well, most of the time...

Aaah, I've sadly never been able to keep up with the comics! My dad wasn't real big on the iea when I was a kid, and comics are sadly an expensive habit, and I don't always feel drawn to the communities. I'll bind on character info on the wikis and stuff every so often though so I get the second hand info from the comics, I suppose ;P
But aah! I don't overall (or, well, if I do, it's Marvel? But neither is perfect)(I just have some Issues with decisions DC has made as of late), though I do think they both excel in different areas and it's kind of interesting to see that.

Yeah, sometimes continuities can be kinda... I dunno, difficult to keep track of. The best stories, I think, are the ones you can pick up and not need to know too much about the years of continuities. Like, I picked up a book called Batman: The Wrath a few years ago, and it was a good story which managed not to be continuity-heavy (I hadn't really been reading comics at that point at all).
Indeed... DC has been messing up its comics quite a lot recently--and I reaaally didn't like Man of Steel...
Didn't think Green Lantern was as bad as people said though, I thought it was kinda fun.
Though my favourite superhero movie thus far has been Captain America. He's just so darn likeable, isn't he?

Queash In reply to Spikeprime [2014-05-18 00:34:17 +0000 UTC]
Aaah yeah I agree? Like I definitely enjoy overreaching plots and arcs but comics need to be more new-viewer friendly. ;P
And yEAH. There's actually a website dedicated to letting people know how many days it's been since DC has messed up. It's kind of neat, but also depressing.
And aaah I have issues with Man of Steel, but if you can a) turn your brain off a bit b)just need a movie to put in front of your face, it's not bad! There's certain elements I really did like! But Superman was never my favorite, and the film definitely has issues. (Also, I felt like I was watching a Michael Bay film! Everything exploded! At one of the quieter graveyard scene my girlfriend leaned over to whisper "Do you think the tombstone is going to explode" because. SERIOUSLY. everything blew up in that film.)
I don't think I ever did see Green Lantern though. I sadly don't get out to the movies much.
Aaah ah I totally agree?? Both the Captain America films, really!
To be honest I think all of the Avengers stuff that Marvel has been putting out, movie wise, have been pretty good? Enjoyable at the very least, and I think they currently are the winners in terms of Superhero Films. I think DC still generally makes better cartoons (and their cartoons age better), but I need to peek at more of the Marvel cartoons.

Well, if there's any comic of the New 52 I'd recommend, then it'd be Batwing, from issue 1 to issue 20. It's a relatively self-contained story, which incorporates some of the bigger DC Universe--but does so in a really understandable way. For instance, there was a long-running storyline called the Court of Owls in the Batman books, and one of their characters turns up in Batwing. I never read Court of Owls and know almost nothing about it, and everything I needed to know about the character and the storyline was neatly and concisely told or shown.
Seriously, Batwing is my favourite series of the New 52, mostly for its main character who is so interesting and nuanced... then they decided to replace the main character with Lucius Fox's son. I have no idea if that run is good or not.
For Man of Steel, I dunno, I can't turn my brain off for a film. I can enjoy dumb stuff sometimes because if its dumbness, like I love Independence Day because it's silly and dumb and fun. But... MoS hit me hard, because Superman was my first superhero, and my favourite for many years. The first comic I ever read? Man of Steel from 1986. Yeah.... that movie just made me feel like they'd taken that hero, lauded for his integrity, his humanity and compassion, and turned him into a brute who cares nothing for the innocent lives he crushes in battle.
Although, that thing about whether the tombstone was going to blow up really made me laugh there, HAHA Almost makes the movie worth it
I really liked DC's Young Justice series. I really wish it hadn't been cancelled, it was so good! I loved the characters, and the plot twists and the unexpected turns it'd take.... and the dialogue was so.... so..... whelming
As for marvel cartoons, well, I can say that their Avengers: Earth's Mightiest heroes series was GREAT! It had a bit of a rough start, but once the momentum got going, it really became something special, en-parr with Bruce Timm's work on the DC animated series'. It had to tie up its loose ends rather quickly, since it was being replaced with "Avengers Assemble", which they're desperately trying to shoehorn into the movie's continuity, which is just isn't.

Oh huh, that does all sound pretty good! c: I'll maybe give it a gander sometime!
And aah ah no fair enough, I know if someone did something like that to a Her I DID care a lot about or any other thing, I'd probably have Β similar problem! I'm fairly distance with Supes tho, so it was easier, plus?? I forgot her name but the lady villain in the film and some of the villain stuff in general was awesome. *v* But Superman himself was just. Kind of a mess in that movie. Because yeah man all the stuff Supes has had for Saving Lives and Not Killing and not causing damage ect ect and
meanwhile hOW MANY COUNTLESS PEOPLE MUST HAVE DIED, so many things exploded, just
n o,,,, dfjkhgh lord
I am SO glad it made you laugh too because it's just one of my favorite silly thoughts and the main thing I think of when I think about the film, tbh. That and the awesome lady villain. :')
Ooooh man Young Justice was amazing??? I still need to watch some of the second season but I'm just Heart broken abut the cancellation. And according to sources part of the reason was because of it's large "female audience" which is so obnoxious and kinda makes me want to kick the executives who made the choice in the face even mORE. That seems to kinda happen with some good DC cartoons tho? Batman Beyond never got continued, Teen Titans didn't get the ending it deserved, Young Justice, and probably some others I'm not thinking of off the top of my head. It's a real shame.
And aaah I think that's the Avenger's cartoon I have heard good things about! I'll definitely have to look into it. c: Though oh dear, is that what they are trying to do with Avenger's Assemble? Geez. dfkjgh

Oh, I don't know if it may or may not bother you, but it does have a lot of blood, violence and somewhat gore in the first six-or-so issues. It mellows out after that, but early on there's a lot of beheadings. The story overall is very gritty, but also is good enough to inject humour sometimes.
Well.... as much as I had problem with the death of Zod at first.... that was before I looked at the comics and realised that, in 1986, Superman killed Zod, Faora and another follower of Zod with Kryptonite--willing, premeditated murder, when he realised he couldn't trap them, he couldn't fight them forever, and they weren't going to stop. Now, the difference is that in the comics, Superman went into self-imposed exile for a full year because of this, mourning their deaths for a long time even though they were monsters, finally returning and vowing that he would never do it again. In Man of Steel, we immediately smash-cut into him joking about destroying government property. Not exactly as great an emotional impact, huh?
Really? I never heard that from anyone--all I heard, repeatedly, was that it wasn't making money or getting good ratings. I haven't heard stuff about it being cancelled because of attracting a female demographic.... and if that is true, it's one of the dumbest things I ever heard. Why not use that? Like, it could me MLP: FIM in reverse!
Yeah.... I don't even know what the point of cancelling EMH was--it had really good ratings, and was making a killing in markets even outside the television (toys, DVD's, etc...)
Now all of a sudden it's a cartoon set after the Avengers movie and... it just doesn't work. AT ALL. Dumb decision all around, I think.

Oh my gosh, thank you SO MUCH for calling people out on Bienie's poll about her character's pronouns. As a fellow nonbinary person who's gotten a little weary trying to educate people, it means a lot to see someone else being both civil and firm when standing up to people, especially when slurs started being thrown around. Again, thank you!

!!! oh my gosh. You don't have to thank me, but you're welcome! (I was gonna say my pleasure but. no. no it's not a pleasure omg. It can be when people educate themselves or learn but rRRR that isn't what was really happening). But oh, oh no I feel that. It's not exactly fun and it gets pretty draining - but I want the world to be a better place for everyone, including folks like us, and maybe correcting people won't always lead to that, but I'm willing to try. c: So if I have he energy, and someone else isn't already handling things, I try to chime in.

Yeah, me too. It's a shame people are so adamant about it, though! If everyone could listen with an open mind and quit being so grounded in tradition I think I might even enjoy talking about it with people, but so often they start assuming everything and then it just descends into pointless arguing. I generally try to do the same thing when I can, but a lot of the time it feels like I'm the only one there and it gets frustrating when nobody even listens. I guess if we keep it up they'll eventually have to stop and think, though.
(Sorry for the late reply! I've been busy lately and haven't had much time for dA, haha)

Queash In reply to LaraGhost [2014-05-23 22:48:44 +0000 UTC]
It's even less of them being adamant I think or traditional because??? Well that's obviously the problem with some, but other people are just.
Difficult is the only word I can think of, that isn't just a string of insults or accusing them of being malicious (because that's not sTRICTLY true but, it can be).
But aaah no no I feel you, I'm more inclined to speak up if no one else has tbh because I know I'd want someone to if I was the one seeing it, but that can lead to the whole feeling like the only person talking to brick walls thing ;v; so I know the feeling
But yeah, that's the hope! Or if not they'll at least keep their mouth shuts and say less offensive stuff???
(Oh man no worries! c: Life does that and all)
