# About me

Just here to keep track of some off my favorite fan artists.

If people would like, I can update this journal with links whenever I post a new work or chapter, but I won't be posting the work/chapter here because a good deal of my material would get me TOSed from dA, so I will only post links.

You can find me at Archive of our Own, here: archiveofourown.org/users/RCD_…

Or at fanfiction.net, here: www.fanfiction.net/~elysiumfic

Or at DreamWidth, here: elysium-fic.dreamwidth.org

If you are looking for specific works:

POSSESSED (Warning: VERY EXPLICIT adult content!) (m!Warden/m!Hawke)
A collaboration piece, co-authored by and with accompanying artwork by

This story was originally written for the Kink Big Bang, a project which, unfortunately, appears to be defunct, judging by the lack of updates and responsiveness from the moderator. Therefore, we are posting it here instead. Since our beta was supposed to be assigned by the KBB moderators and they never did that, it is, unfortunately, unbetaed. Hopefully not too many errors have slipped through.

The characters are taken from the Dragon Age-themed quasi-crackfic RP that goes on over at FormSpring and on IRC, in which multiple Wardens, Hawkes, and their respective NPCs, come together in the Fade.

In the dream realm known as the Fade Bar, human commoner Warden, Garrick Chance, and future Champion of Kirkwall, Gavin Hawke, find one another and explore pleasure and love together. But a tragedy in Garrick's waking world prompts Gavin to take things further than they've ever gone before, to give Garrick comfort and relief.

ELYSIUM (Warning: Adult and possibly triggering content) (Alistair/f!Cousland/Zevran)
In the aftermath of the Orlesian occupation, young Teyrn Bryce Cousland married the daughter of a dispossessed Fereldan merchant whom he found working in an Antivan brothel. A generation later, his daughter Rìona confronts the Blight equipped with a noblewoman's ambitions and a courtesan's approach to diplomacy. (This is the second, much better, much more fleshed-out draft of the work Reverse-Cowgirl Diplomacy, linked below.)

Elysium @ FFnet (NOTE: the Prologue is not posted at FFnet due to extreme adult content, you may find it at AO3 or DW)

ABSOLUTE POWER (Warning: Adult and possibly triggering content, darkfic, major character death) (King Alistair/f!Amell)
Five years.

Five years since the Blight. Five years of being married to Anora. Five years since Loghain went from being a traitor to a hero with a single thrust of a sword into the archdemon's skull.

Five years of steady decline, drinking himself ever more deeply into oblivion. He'd become the laughing stock of Ferelden. An incompetent king, outshone in every way by his very able queen. A wastrel and a drunkard, likely to humiliate himself at state functions with his baseborn Chantry boy's graces and excessive fondness for spirits.

Five years since King Alistair Theirin had been betrayed by the woman he loved, and a monster had been born.

Absolute Power @ AO3
Absolute Power @ FFnet
Absolute Power @ DW (link is to Part 1)

REVERSE-COWGIRL DIPLOMACY (Warning: Adult and possibly triggering content including rape and incest) (Alistair/f!Cousland, primarily)
Written in response to a prompt at the LJ kmeme for a Warden who uses sex to solve the problems of the Blight, this bit of crackfic turned into a 44-chapter epic that actually contained some character development and poignant moments. (Elysium is actually built on the framework of RCD, taking the basic idea and building a story with more plot and character development and less crackfic and kinky sex.)

RCD @ AO3
RCD @ DW
(not posted to FFnet due to some extremely objectionable content.)

NOTABLE ONE-SHOTS

THREE ENCOUNTERS (Anders/Duncan pre-Blight)

I have read your story about Alistair and Duncan, and, my GOD, I never EVER enjoyed a fanfic so much. You write like a goddess. Really. I was so blown away! ;_; (I printed all 17 chapters XD. No, wait! 16. The eleventh... saddened me too much (Alistairrrr, wrryyyy?) XD)

Well, it was written very well, BUT argh, it caused me pain in my heart, because.... the relationship had its unique... charme and perfection... and this mage ... had this Katriel-Fiona-Feeling (and I hated both). I would have loved this encounter if she had been a lesbian, this would have been kind of ...funny!
Anyways, there WERE two lesbians amongst the wardens, right?
I LOVED this tiny romantic scene between them! ;_;
And Alistairs thoughts at this moment. Epic romance. Simply epic.
You really should write MORE boy on boy or girl on girl action, really. You are so damn talented, the words seem to be flowing right out of you. It's so impressive. I was incredibly in love with sixty days in jader, really. And three beers, lol. You write Alistair so adorable, I want to hug you tightly.

RCD-Anon In reply to ShirayukiOuji [2011-11-22 22:32:43 +0000 UTC]

I never read the novels, so I don't know from Katriel or Fiona. My only requisite for Corinne was that she was someone who had a gentleness that could bring out Alistair's protective instincts.

Honestly, the story was pretty top-heavy--almost unrealistically so--with homoerotic emphasis. So the decision was made to acknowledge that many of the Wardens, despite the situational bisexuality necessitated by the Initiation, were actually heterosexual, and that Alistair was still exploring his sexual identity and trying to figure out what he wanted.

There WAS a lesbian couple among the Wardens. I loved Muriel and Solange, but there wasn't room to really explore them without changing the focus of the story. I felt it defied credibility, however, to have three of the five women shown in the story be lesbians.

I actually came quite late to writing slash. Before I got into Dragon Age fandom (which was about... April, I think? after Origins came out?) I'd never written--or cared for--slash. Somehow Alistair's slashability brought me around. IDEK how. I am writing more homoerotica these days, because my RP character is a bisexual male in a triad with another man and a woman, which is what the artwork :devDragonReine published today was about. If you want to read more about Garrick and Gavin, check out "Possessed" which is linked above.

You DID NOT? O__O

*drops to the floor*

How? I mean... all your knowledge about Genevieve...Orlais, all that! HOW? How could you create such an awesome universe without having read the novels?!

I'm, like, speechless. And adore you much more.

YES! I knew it! I loved them, too! ;_;
Do you have any descriptions or something what they could look like?

And, yes...Alistairs WORSHIP of Duncan bordered on fanatism... I noticed that almost immediately. But I thought no one else had the same impression, so I put this pairing into the bin. XD
And THEN....my god... I saw this fanart connected to your story and then I read the STORY....Oh my, you can't imagine how I turned euphoric. XD

You are my heroine!

Yes, yes, I found you because of this fanart today. I never knew how to connect to you and today I found out you were here and I was like: OH MY GOD! *_____________________________________*

LOL you thanked me for answering quickly just as I took off to pick up my son from preschool. Sorry for the delay.

I got my information on the novels from the DA wiki, but yeah, I never read them.

Um... off the top of my head, I can't think what Muriel and Solange looked like. IIRC Muriel is an archer, and Solange is a warrior? (I almost said she was a mage, and then I remembered I switched her and Fabienne at the last moment, because the name Solange was too close to Solana, the default name for the human mage Warden.)

Um, from the story, Muriel was tiny for a human woman; barely taller than Jacquette, and twice as slender. Jacquette is an elf, so I'm gonna say Muriel is in the 5'0"-5'2" range. My head canon of her is that she's got long, very thick dark hair (the sort you might see on people of Native American descent), dark brown eyes, thick eyebrows, a round face, and a very bustling, bouncy, giggly, almost hyperactive energy that makes anyone who doesn't get a good look at her face suspect she's actually a child, because of her short stature. Because she's an archer, however, her arms would be extremely muscular, and she might have enough musculature in her pectorals that she seems somewhat flat-chested, like female body builders often do.

Solange I envision as being more of an amazon. She's a warrior and it says she can go toe-to-toe with Wegtmar and trounce him, and he's a dwarf berserker. Maybe something of a Viking appearance for her, very Nordic, tall, blonde or redhead, broad shouldered, possibly battle-scarred.

I'm glad you found me! As you can see on my profile page, I'm also over at ff.net, AO3 and DreamWidth, so feel free to follow me wherever. Because I'm not a visual artist and most of my fanfiction violates DevArt's TOS, I don't post my writing here.

I am from the U.S. and I don't speak any other languages. My French was a combination of using wordreference.com, freetranslation.com, Google Language Tools, and asking a person from the DreamWidth PeopleofThedas community who lives in Belgium and speaks fluent French to double-check my translations after I'd worked out approximately what I wanted to say.

Wow! You got a son? How old are you?
I thought you might be at my age, but now I think you are older.

Why didn't you read the novels? Simply not interested?

Yes, I remember these descriptions, but I hoped there were pictures of them, probably drawn by one of your friends or something. Thank you anyway! Solange reminds me of Aveline when I read this description.

Yeeees, I already knew your presence on these websites, but the reason I couldn't contact you before was that I don't have any accounts there.

I'm sad you can't post your works here, it's a shame.

It's impressive how much effort you put into the collection of right words and expressions from the French.
Very good!

RCD-Anon In reply to ShirayukiOuji [2011-11-23 16:10:34 +0000 UTC]

I'm 37, and my son is 4-1/2.

I'd heard the writing of the novels was pretty "meh" so I didn't bother. I have a hard time dragging myself through badly written books.

You're the first reader to every remark on Muriel and Solange. I think the drive-by I did of them just didn't hook many readers' attention. And *DragonReine is the only artist to do any Jader art, and that is only because I commissioned it.

As for posting my work here... yeah, no, that's not going to happen. Just to double-check, I went back to the FAQ and double-checked the guidelines on adult literary content. I violate every single one at some point in my writing.

Thanks again for all the lovely commentary!

Woooow, so you are a real lady! I'm just a little girl and even a virgin. *cough*

Oh, uhm, yes. kinda... I don't know the originals, I read them in German and, well, the were okay. A little boring perhaps, but I liked the descriptions of Maric's emotions. Very intense. Very beautiful.

Which books do you read? I know you mentioned a few in your notes at the end of some chapters, but I'm still interested. I love Oscar Wilde and Jean-Paul Sartre.

Muriel and Solange were cute! ;_;
I liked them very much and even thought about cosplaying them with my Friend Friederike. XD
BUT... She doesn't know Dragon Age very well and she might be the only person matching this description. Haha.

I thought DragonReine and you were friends?
Am I wrong?

Oh, you are welcome. I's been a dream of me to talk to you since I found your story under DragonReine's picture. 8D

May I ask what job you do? Something with writing? Like a Journalist or something?

RCD-Anon In reply to ShirayukiOuji [2011-11-23 18:54:00 +0000 UTC]

I've read all sorts of stuff, though lately I've been too involved in writing and RP to read much. A couple of my current favorites are the Jacqueline Carey "Kushiel" series and David Weber's Honor Harrington series.

DragonReine and I are friends, but her artwork and time are too valuable for her to do illustrations of minor characters for free. If I want something drawn or painted, I pay for it.

As for what I do, I'm a full-time mom. I'm hoping to work as a midwife or lactation consultant once my son is in school full-time.

Ohh, the first one is fantasy and the other one science-fiction? Did you play Mass Effect? I always thought it might be the futuristic version of Dragon Age, but after a closer look it seemed totally different.

Ah, I see. I'm a little sad the really great digital painters' works are that expensive (I know they are worth it). I'd totally commission everyone and anything if I had the money. Being a pupil or a student sucks when it comes to money.

Oh! Is it your first child?
You seem to enjoy it very much to be a mommy.

Through reading Elysium, I just wanted to know how you actually can write the sexual scenes, as I feel that I cannot write anything of that calibre onto page, as everytime I have done so it sounds really crap. I was just wondering if you could give me any pointers concering how to do this.
Thanks

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RCD-Anon In reply to extremistsaffy [2011-06-27 12:48:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh, gosh.

First of all, thank you for the compliment.

Second of all, keep in mind that what reads like crap to you may not actually be that bad. We are our own harshest critics, and there's always going to be someone whose writing we look at and think, "GAH! I want to write like THAT! Why can't I write like THAT?!"

For me when I first came to Dragon Age fandom, one fic in particular stood out to me as the pinnacle of brilliant writing and I was sooo envious of the writers' style and convinced my own writing was crap in comparison.

You have to shut up your inner critic. You just do. The inner critic is never your friend. Nothing you ever write, no matter how brilliant, will satisfy your inner critic. Write what you feel, and let the feedback you receive from betas and readers be your guide on what's working and what's needing improvement.

That's the best pointer I can give. Without having read any of your material, I couldn't say whether or not your writing actually works or if there's anything wrong with it. I'd offer to read some pieces and give you concrit, but right now I'm so caught up in other projects I'm working on that I couldn't give such an endeavor the attention it deserves. Sorry.

Find a beta reader, if you haven't already got one. I don't know about here on DeviantArt, but over on LiveJournal there are a lot of Dragon Age communities, especially one for beta readers. Find someone who is willing to give you solid, honest concrit geared toward helping you improve your style.

And if they come back at you and say "Your style is fine" bind your inner critic up, throw him in a steamer trunk, and let him rot there.

RCD-Anon In reply to BloodyHighClaw [2011-03-08 14:57:40 +0000 UTC]

It all depends on the fic and how well the writer sells it. Mostly my interest centers around Alistair and Zevran, either together or with others characters/PCs. Right now I'm reading:

A fic with Alistair and an original character (Scarylady01's "Trouble & Strife")
A fic with an Alistair/Zevran/m!Cousland triad (Scarylady01's "Secret Service")
A fic with a (presumed) Alistair/m!Cousland pairing (Nithu's "Nolo, Nolle, Nolui")
A fic with a Zevran/f!Mahariel and Leliana/m!Mahariel pairing (Twist_Shimmy and Lennanightrunner's "Vir Lath Sa'vunin")
I'm presently writing two fics, one featuring Alistair/Duncan and the other featuring Zevran/f!Cousland and (possibly) Alistair/f!Cousland.

So, yeah, my tastes are variable.

Which story? If you're referring to "Elysium" then that story is still in progress. It gets updated every Monday and Friday and probably has at least another 20 chapters to go.

If you mean RCD, that one is finished. It was basically the first draft of "Elysium" and won't be taken any further. If you mean one of my other pieces, such as my short series "Absolute Power" that one is finished also, but I do have another short series, "Sixty Days in Jader" that is ongoing and will be updated when I'm able to do so.

Ahhhh I may have been reading rcd then without realising never mind well its another excuse to read it again but done in a different way I guess. I'll have a look out for your other pieces and see what I think of them. But I guess they will be good as rcd (me taking it as elysium, bit of an idiot)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RCD-Anon In reply to extremistsaffy [2011-02-14 02:06:40 +0000 UTC]

Well, it can be a bit confusing, because Elysium is essentially the second draft of RCD. A greatly altered second draft, but it's built on the RCD framework at least.

I'm pretty happy with where I left RCD off. I may go back and revisit it for the purposes of more raunchy content than Elysium calls for, but yeah, RCD is pretty much done.

Hi there! I've been reading your fic and enjoying it but I do have a question.

What is Rinoa going to do when she gives birth half way through her journey? The game spans 2 years after all. (at the very least 9 months from the Origin, to your first treaty being done)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RCD-Anon In reply to OnionMan [2011-01-07 07:27:52 +0000 UTC]

Hi there. Sorry for the delay in responding. I was on a three-week vacation over the holidays and only returned tonight.

My understanding was that the timeline of the game (not including Awakening) was that it was slightly less than a year from the origin to the battle with the Archdemon. I've never heard any mention of it taking two years, and certainly never heard mention of nine months from Origin to first treaty.

I constructed a pretty meticulous time-line taking into consideration the travel distances in Ferelden (someone over at LiveJournal used the map that came with the pen-and-paper RPG to give a mileage estimate of the distances between various places in Ferelden) and laying events in-story out side-by-side with a timeline for a 40-week pregnancy, even including travel times it all works out to be within a year and has Riona ready to give birth precisely when I intended for her to give birth.

As for what she is going to do? Well, you'll just have to read the story.

Mm, I was just saying that if in the Dwarf Noble origin, you decide to knock up one of the Noble Hunters, you will get her pregnant, and the time from the origin to the first treaty would be about nine to ten months because I did Orzammar first, and there she was, saying we have a son.

So... thats how I assumed Fereldan is REALLY big if it takes months to get from one location to the next. But its inconsistant with the mad dash from Redcliffe to Denerim... I dont know what to think anymore.

Ah, I hadn't considered what would happen if you played a dwarf noble and decided to do Orzammar as your first treaty.

I read somewhere that the difficulty of the encounters was designed such that Orzammar was meant to be done pretty late in the game, so I have never attempted it early on. But yeah, you're right on that front. If one played on that particular path, the time line really doesn't work all that well.

I believe the "a little under a year" time frame came from On High in one of those Jossing sessions interviews DG and Co. did, so that is what I've been working with.

The Ferelden distances I am working with come from here: [link] Apparently the map that came with the pen-and-paper RPG had a legend (? I don't think that's the right term, but I can't remember what the correct term is. The thing that some maps have which says X inches = Y miles) on it. So this woman sat down with a ruler and a calculator and translated that into distances between various in-game locations. Other people replied with discussions of what a realistic pace would be for the company to travel (about 15 miles per day) and then I used my own judgment with regards to how long it would take to explore the Brecilian Forest ruins or wander the Deep Roads or whatever to fulfill the various treaties.

Well the Deep Roads run all underneath Fereldan and some of Orlais as far as we know. That makes what we travelled there probably months and even then just barely scratching the surface of whats really all down there.

As for the difficulty thing, I don't believe that. It all scales depending on your party's overall level or something. I usually do Orzammar first because its the most interesting place, and it gets ungodly hard if you do it later. But the discrepency comes from that one instance of having a son between the origin and the first treaty. I dunno its hard to wrap my head around. I'm not the most math-oriented person. I'm an artist, damnit.

Yeah, I estimated about 2.5 months in Orzammar for the treaty. If the map of the Deep Roads is accurate with regards to north/south/east/west it looks like it takes you will under the Dales and most of the way to Orlais.

The writers didn't think through their timelines very well. The game gives the feel that only a few days have passed between the origin stories and Ostagar, when it has likely been weeks. In some of the Origins, Duncan says the darkspawn horde was spotted not three weeks ago, and yet by the time you arrive not only has the army been gathered, but there have been a number of skirmishes. At the 15 miles/day estimate the trip between Redcliffe and Denerim would take about 3 weeks, and somehow it's done as a two-day forced march to fight the archdemon?

This is the point at which we suspend disbelief, smile, nod, and do our own thing as writers and artists.
