Haha, thanks. It was pretty an interesting story for me to find the group. I was searching the web for ordinary Japanese lessons and somehow I landed here. ovO Assuming that it was in dA, I didn't see why couldn't watch the group.

I'm embarrassed of the low quality of my sketches. So I've been quite shy. -v-
I've wondered, how would you rate me as an artist?
π: 0 β©: 1
DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-22 23:02:18 +0000 UTC]
Define low quality. Is it cuz of a scanner? Or camera?
I don't have much to go on. XD And I'm 'America's Got Drawing Skills' judge, so... not sure what to say. Your style is very reminiscent of 'Screaming artist' for surreal stuff. Not bad.
π: 0 β©: 1
Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-26 23:03:02 +0000 UTC]
Low quality = my shaky unexisting skills and the fact I draw everything digital directly.
Surreal is the aspect I try to drive out form, though I understand that may be something everyone's at their starting points. Thanks for the thoughts, helps me for a while. :>

DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-26 23:50:54 +0000 UTC]
Skills can be improved though. Never give up. I'm probably my worst critic. XD You can do it
I hope so. I want to be a positive influence. You can check out my 'scraps' if you want for tutorials. Mind you, I'm not a pro, and getting the book might work better than my chicken scratch writing.

Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-28 00:53:30 +0000 UTC]
What, any advice is great, the key is when one hears it at the exact time. It doesn't matter how bad a critique is if it does arouse something important. :>
That is same with the tutorials. I've almost never drawn humans, so following your tutorial would at least teach me the very basics I don't know.

DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-28 01:00:44 +0000 UTC]
How nice. Thanks. I do post them online to show I am trying to learn myself. I don't have the best handwriting, so I try to make it simple for me to read. I do kind hurry to post numbers and letters down. The remotely good ones are the perspective ones. I did try to take my time writing down the instructions.
Some books don't have much in explaining. I try to explain it so I can get it.
π: 0 β©: 1
Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-29 11:19:06 +0000 UTC]
A: Hand writing can be learned.
B: You could also consider just retyping into your computer.
I'd say.
Many of the information are just available in theory, that is, when the writers forget to tell some of the basics to the reader.
π: 0 β©: 1
DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-29 14:38:41 +0000 UTC]
A: Not if you have coordination issues. For the majority yes. But like reading and dyslexia, a person will 'always' have trouble reading and seeing letters backwards. For me, writing is the issue.
B: Yeah, I could, but I scan it and get it done. An hour of practice, then half hour to upload. If I typed every little line, it would take even longer.
I wish they did teach it step by step. Some books do. Never assume anything. You do not get from A to C by skipping 'b'. You need to learn the whole alphabet. By some artists skipping how they formed certain things, it's harder on those having troubles learning.
π: 0 β©: 1
Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-29 21:01:45 +0000 UTC]
I kind of recall we have had a discussion about this subject before, yes? :>
Perhaps you could also type your future thoughts with your computer, I could see the work in scanning.
I agree too. Though step instructions could be made yourself by thinking too. Just by being creativity. How does the overall shape look, then slowly advancing into shading, then into details, from larger to smaller, until it's complete. That would be figuring out what's the A in the book and what's B and what's Z and what's Γ.

DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-29 22:59:20 +0000 UTC]
What do you mean? My personal notes on it. I could do that, but it would take a long tie.
Yes, thinking. Thing is, this book told me there are like 8 ways to interpret the human body. With that in mind, each person's biased on how something is formed goes into the book. There is 8 heads model which is aesthetic appeal but exaggerates features, 9 heads or so which makes it even more so for comics or there is the 7 1/2 model which is the most accurate, but harder for placement of knowing where exactly such features like belly button, the elbows and knees rest.

Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-30 11:59:11 +0000 UTC]
I meant that... we have had a discussion about it, so I don't try to pursue you with the same ideology I once did.
That's pretty interesting, seems like there's a lot of theory. Not many are probably aware of it.
Well, how about going forward instinctively? Like, how about trying to crate the body parts with as less straight lines and squares as possible, going forward with only curves and random shapes?
π: 0 β©: 1
DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-30 16:26:27 +0000 UTC]
Ok?
Thing is, there are straight type parts for the body. There are also curves. The legs are never 'straight' down, they curve in and out with the muscles. Even the bones curve. The problem is learning this. Your Left critical brain wants to draw thick heavey bold lines, while your R doesn't. It gets hard.
π: 0 β©: 1
Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-30 17:23:48 +0000 UTC]
I'm sorry... was I still unclear?
Yes, that's good, so try to not to concentrate on them, but just experiment with the curves. Train the other side of your brains if the other's good.
π: 0 β©: 1
DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-30 17:47:11 +0000 UTC]
I guess, either that or it's me.
It's so hard to take everything into account. Is the proportions right? Is it curvy? Is it too straight? Bah. lol
On Gestures of 45, you don't think, you draw. On slower ones, you semi-think. Try to visualizes it as a silloute, then dot he curves. Foreshortening confuses me.

Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-30 17:50:44 +0000 UTC]
Well it's ok. I just decided to not to tell my complete opinions, because I'd rather not annoy you even though I would like to give you motivation. On that motor part I mean.
Don't care too much about it. Every artist has at some point problems with these, and towards the future those will go away in small steps.
Yes, that's how you're supposed to think. Don't think too much.
π: 0 β©: 1
DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-30 22:51:15 +0000 UTC]
Well, motor is not an excuse. It'd documented. And my medicine says it may affect motor cordination.

Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-30 22:57:26 +0000 UTC]
Yes, you may not want to cut off your medicine... hard to say anything... perhaps you could try meditation?
π: 0 β©: 1
DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-30 22:58:21 +0000 UTC]
huh?
I'm saying the med affects my coordination too lol

Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-30 23:00:39 +0000 UTC]
I know, I understood it. I did intentionally said meditation.
π: 0 β©: 1
DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-30 23:22:18 +0000 UTC]
Meditation? I do meditate, but what does that do with art?
π: 0 β©: 1
Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-12-30 23:28:31 +0000 UTC]
Ahh... I was embarrassed enough for that typo. Yes, meditation, with a T.
The thing is, it has a lot of things to do with art. I know for sure, that imagining shapes in your head will help you applying those on paper. Lie down and rest very well, then start focusing on what would you like to create.
π: 0 β©: 1
DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2010-12-31 01:53:37 +0000 UTC]
How would meditation help for art?
I do imagine shapes in my head. But that is where the issue comes up. 3d rotation is hard for me, and even documented as such. Thanks.
You mean visualize it before I go to bed? or read over the notes? I could do that.
π: 0 β©: 1
Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2011-01-02 01:12:26 +0000 UTC]
Guess. :>
Then you'd need to practice more, it's simple.
Yes. What I know what has been documented, that mentally visualizing things will help on many skills, it's equal and even better like doing the thing actually. There was this test done to three different groups of sportsmen (football? it's not relevant). One group had no training, one had training, and one had meditation exercises. A game was played against each other and the first one lost, the last one won.
I'm sorry if I sound utopic, but I'm somehow really optimistic for you. Your situation in drawing is already better than when we go back in time. You shouldn't give up, just like what you told at me. :>
π: 0 β©: 1
DryBonesReborn In reply to Ragwyn [2011-01-02 01:15:12 +0000 UTC]
The point is, I DO practice more. But you can practice 'wrong'. lol
That's why it's good to have refs and tutorials and books.
Yeah thanks. I do hope to see some art. Even practice art.
π: 0 β©: 1
Ragwyn In reply to DryBonesReborn [2011-01-03 01:35:57 +0000 UTC]
OH yes, but then you'll learn to not to practice so. :>
May good things happen for you ma'am.
