You commissioned King Galaxy to do music for a "Megaman RR" I think? (at some time I can't determine?) Did anything ever come of that? Just curious.

My favorites were Orbit Man and Cotton Woman (Battery Man honorable mention!)
I guess it means something that I randomly think about this months later. The whole Mega Man series aesthetic is my mega-nostalgia hyperjoy though so it's inevitable.

Across the board? The soundtracks for the NES Megamans disappoint me. Flame Man gets my like, though, because of the melodic breakdown in the middle. It's an emotional getaway that actually feels like it tells a story? All else--they're kind of all over the place trying to reiterate its own themes. (Crash Man is ok I guess, if a little memey)
What gets me about the MM soundtrack, especially 7 and on (and it's even more apparent in the X series), is the *melancholy overtones* (and 80s power rock influence! >u>). It's fine to get lost in wonderland (part of Cloud Man and Freeze Man (all of Spring Man)) as Mega Man, who is always just a naive robot and will never grow; but it is in the midst of preparation for an impending war between robots and humans that will last for centuries. The results of Mega Man's battles (and his successors') will always be morally ambiguous, and the soundtrack should reflect that.
The Cotton Woman theme probably exemplifies this range of emotion best. It begins with a happy bounce that is replaced (at 0:25) by a dark determination which is then flavored (at 0:40) by somber resolve. Orbit Man and Battery Man maintain a groovy energy but there is still a particular attitude about them--as if there is something wrong but it will be inevitably righted. Hehe, I don't know, these are just my impressions.

Man, if that's the kind of stuff you like, I'm surprised you didn't bring up Squid Man's theme, which, I feel, also has that sort of sound(and more purposefully, too).
For what it's worth, I had Cotton Woman's theme based simply around the feeling of floating in the sky, as she does, and navigating the Robot Revolution's floating fortress. Battery Man's, meanwhile, is supposed to be high-octane, but evoking a feeling of danger(because, yanno, his stage is a power plant, and Megaman has historically been weak to electric weapons), and Orbit Man is a launch base that you have to navigate, so the theme evokes a sense of urgency: can you make it to the rocket before it launches into space without you?
And for that matter, what do you think of the others? I'm curious now.
