Hey, you're much welcome! Just wanted to tell you how I LOVE your tutorials and gallery and your many experiments  and your insightful advices, and you're SUCH and inspiration! So thank YOU

And yes, I finally got him, he's second-hand so he already had a name (Yugi) and a few unfortunate issues to boot (he was three years old and had two owners before me, and while I don't know what happened when he was with them, what I got is a parrot with biting/screaming habits, minimal socialisation and a (curious) preference for men and dislike for women, which, in our case, was a real problem). But since then he has much improved and is coming back the right way Thanks a lot for asking!  
Do you have any birds, or pets?

Oh poor baby! It's hard to work with second hand birds, they come with a lot of baggage! considering how long you've had him sounds like you're doing good! I don't personally own any birds, but I'm the primary bird keeper at our local zoo. Most of the parrots are ancient and were once peoples pets. There is a wide range behavioral problems. But we did just 5 green cheeks and a jenday, all just silly little babies that I can't help but adore. The jenday in particular I just love to pieces.

Yes, and thanks! It's been hard as he was my first bird, but now he's a happy little chirping fella, even though  his old fears/habits still come back at times! 

Oh wow, what a great, rewarding job that must be. That's always been my dream job besides making art for a living. I understand how much of a challenge it must be taking care of those (sometimes heavily) scarred sweeties. But I can imagine how all they're asking for is a little compassion and understanding, and how full of love they must be when you give it to them! 

Please, could you tell me more about your little occupants? They sound very endearing! And I'd love to hear about what you do as a bird keeper!

Hahaha! endearing isn't quite the term I'd use and they spurn any compassion from humans. 

Well for starters we have a citron-crested cockatoo, hand-raised, total sweetheart, loves to cuddle. She's used for education programs. We have our six conures, such cheeky babies. Two blue and yellow macaws one is the father of the other, the father is over 40 years old and they must stay together at all time. Neither want anything to do with you unless you have a peanut and only then the younger one will take it from your hand and run away. Then there's an eclectus that actively attacked anyone, but someone adopted her and works with her quite well. We had a pair of extremely old african greys that weren't fond of human interaction, one died and the other soon followed, it was quite sad. And lastly of the parrots we have two 40+ amazons that take peanuts from your hand then try to scream and kill you. c:

Such lovelies. None of the old birds are used to enrichment that I make for them and foreign objects scare them. I've tried target training with a clicker, and they're are afraid of the sound despite my yummy reinforcements. Despite all this we do have a working relationship I feed them, give them treats, slowly find ways to entertain them that won't scare them, but they know I'm also the person that has weigh them, trim their beaks and claws, and occasionally force medications down their throat. So we put up with each other. 

But as much I would love to spend time working with each bird, because I firmly believe each one can become tamed, I have to keep in mind that these are zoo animals not pets. They don't need to be able to step up, or be quiet because I don't often have to handle them. We want them to be healthy and on display representing their wild counterparts. But some training, like crate training, would be extremely useful to reduce stress for both me and the birds.

First, I'm very sorry for the two-month late response. I was completely overwhelmed by my final projects for school! Fortunately, I am now in vacation.

Thanks for the complete response. I realize I had a pretty idealized, maybe over-enthusiastic idea of what it is, working with non-domestic birds. I can imagine how hard it must be at times, having had to train from scratch my secondhand while he had received no education and some mistreatment from his last owners.

Thank you very much again for your time! Your answer will give me food for thought for the next time I'll envision working as a birdkeeper.
