Thanks! I have been on DA for a bit on a different account, but I moved because the old was getting to crowded with stuff that I really didn't want so I thought I'd move to a new one to start to have one more focused on games I'm making or what not.
I was looking at your Ubira sounds like a cool idea, I can't wait to see an actual demo or more of an explanation of how mechanics will work in it. I am working on a pokemon fan game myself, but I would be glad to help with mechanics, systems, technicalities, or whatever you would need help on. I will probably be adding any of my fakemon sketches that I have made which you can freely use as ideas for Ubira...uh..creatures?
I do have one question: what are you making Ubira in? RPG Maker?

Wow, thank you.
Yes I am making Ubira in RPG Maker XP. I chose this older version because I like the ability to choose a different tile set for each map.
The idea is the Ubira can transform into any fakemon he defeats, its like ditto, without having to copy the fakemon you are battling at that moment. What makes it really cool is that Ubira can change into fakemon outside of battle. This means I'll be making a lot of overworld sprites of the fakemon.
I am having trouble with one very important thing. The battle system. The thing that keeps putting a wrench in my system is that I want to do it my way. Because Ubira is one character I didn't want to make his transformations separate that he would have to level them up separately (unless you think that would be fun?) The only problem is that it would make it very unfair in battle if each time Ubira changed, all his HP and SP were full. On the other hand I already have a code worked out to change the main characters appearance and abilities... but I need to know how to change the base stats. Do you happen to know how to do that?

BTW, sorry about adding the Fakemon art in the wrong place in Ubira group, hopefully you can move it or just get rid of it. I'm kind of new to using the group feature on here.

Don't worry about that, I can switch the folders easily.

No, I haven't worked in RPG Maker/Ruby in a long time. I am a computer science major at college but they aren't really teaching Ruby, but I could try to re-learn it. Have you thought of other programs or anything before, like Construct Classic/Construct 2? Even though I'm learning Programing Languages, I still find that program really cool. C2 is an HTML5 application maker that is based in visual programming, so I'll RPG maker, no programming experience is required. Anyway, its just a thought.
Anyway, this sounds a little like a previous game idea that I had called "Battle Buddies" (yeah, I know, childish name). Anyway, the battle system that I was planning for that was like a fighter such as Mortal Kombat, Tekken, or soul Calibur but you could switch between buddies during battle. You could use the same logic for the Ubira, where they could switch between forms in battle. I don't know if you were planning to change from the original RPG Maker battle system but if you weren't then that idea might still not be lost. If I remember correctly, the stats for one character in RPG Maker will stay on that one character, meaning if you change to a new character, the new character would stay the level it was when you got it. With that you could make level very insignificant, where they are more like skill levels that make you slightly better OR someone who is more familiar with Ruby could right you a script that would level up all the other characters that you COULD become if one of them level up.
You could also have someone right you a script where you have two sets of levels, one that is the character level and the other that is the ubira skill level (kind of like Digimon World 3). But really if you are going to go that far with either both the battle system and/or the leveling system with skill levels, I would just change to another Maker program. Only my opinion though.

No I haven't heard of Construct 2. I will look into it. Thanks for telling me about it.
Your right about the stats, but I want it to be where all the forms are the same character, so if the main form is down to 10 HP all of them would have 10 HP instead of giving them the advantage of having all their health... because that would be unfair if the player could switch through all 50 of his transformations and have 100% HP each time.
If I could find out the name and 'get' information for max hp I could change it, but looking into the program you suggested sounds like a good idea.

Yes that would be quite a problem if they would constantly be at full health.
Plus if you made the program with C2 or even a language like Java or C++ (I could even help with that), then you could make whatever you want whatever way you want it.
Couple more questions because this does sound like a cool idea for a game and I am really interested to help anyway that I can, can you explain how everything is quite working in the Ideacrafting that you have so far, like do the Ubira evolve? or How are they born? is it from an Egg, or do they drop from the sky by the magical legendary mythical Ubira, Celestia, the winged Stag of birth or something like that? How does an Ubira get the transformations? What do you have so far on the topic, if you don't mind me asking?

Interesting Questions. The main character is an Ubira... (the name originated from usagi, rabbit, and ruby. Essentially the ruby rabbit. He was originally meant to be red but I liked orange better.) Ubira is raised by human parents(he can talk). This causes some discomfort for him because he relates better to people than wild fakemon. Of course this also makes the story entertaining. Trainers try to catch him, he fights his own kind, and he is even stalked by a girl who studies unusual fakemon. The goal of the game is for Ubira to meet his dad (his real dad) who is a famous fakemon working for the president. (Originally Ubira was going to recklessly go off on an adventure to rule the world, but I think that while it is an entertaining shallow motive, people would like Ubira more if they could sympathize with him.) There is an evolution for Ubira, but evolving is pointless to creature who can take on any form he has encountered at will. Ubira gets the transformations by defeating fakemon. When he defeats them his body memorize their form and is able to become them at any time. Its like Ditto without the limit of copying only what is in front of them. The towns in the game are going to be based on different themes to make them exciting. Here are some of the areas in the game: Halloween Town, Botanical Garden, Light Carnival, Night Observatory, Tech Center, Luminous Caverns, VS Town, Snow Island, Steam(punk) Valley.... those are basically what I am planning on. These are not the final names for the places, just their working titles.
I think I'm going to stick with RPG Maker XP. I've worked out a lot of problems I've had by working through them, and I like the system. I am looking at construct. It seems really good for platform games. I downloaded it last night, but I haven't gotten to play with it yet.

Wow. So first let me get this straight an Ubira refers to this [link] ">, and not the creatures as a whole. Second, I like the story so far, very intriguing on how everything would come together. Can't wait to see a finished story. One problem I would see would be about copying forms; it would make more sense to me (of course, my opinion though) that you would have to get something in order to change into them, not just defeat them (this is of course assuming that Wild [Fakemon?] are about as strong as wild pokemon so they really are no challenge at all) but have them drop something, like a Mon-stamp or a soul something in order to change into them OR another idea is that Ubira could change into them once they beat a boss that holds the power of the area [let's say Ubira is at the boss of Steam Valley and defeats the boss, he gains a crystal from the boss that let's it change into all the Ubira that are in the Steam Valley area). Just my thought on the matter.
I have a question about mechanics because I'm one of those people that will have everything explained in a story with info even if the player never sees it, because then I can always back up what I say: Can other [fakemon?] change into forms of those that they defeat or is this particular Ubira special? And if he is special, why is he?

Ubira is the race of rabbit creatures, but I also call the main character Ubira, because he is one. Players will be able to change his name when they play.
You have a good point. I thought it might be too quick to automatically allow Ubira to change into an opponent after they are beat. What if there was a set # Ubira has to defeat to get enough experience to transform into that fakemon. Fakemon is the name for fan-made Pokemon... because they are fake Pokemon.
Ubira is the only type of fakemon that is able to change forms.

Okay, interesting. The set number would work, but what about a legendary or otherwise special fakemon that may be roaming around. hmmm... Have you ever played Final Fantasy VII. In the game there are these items called materia that control what magicks the character can use. Maybe Ubira got some kind of special power from some ancient source (like an ancient temple he stumbled upon) that gave him a special piece of equipment and the power to change into other Fakemon. The special equipment has these sets of holes that allow essence orbs to be placed in. Each fakemon has a random chance of dropping their orb and they can be placed in the equipment to allow Ubira the ability into another fakemon. There could also be something that causes the orbs to level up as you collect more of the same ones? Sound interesting?

I liked that part of FFVII. I think it might make Ubira too complex to have the essence orbs, having the fakemon randomly drop their ability could work. I am working out what to do about legendary fakemon, and I am thinking about getting rid of random encounters, having the fakemon talk like the trainers do and be individual characters instead of a random wild fakemon. I'm also thinking about giving players the option to re-fight any fakemon or trainer they have previously encountered, by talking to them again.
What do you think?

That seems pretty good. Then legendary ones can always be fought again to gain its ability if you need to. They could go to a special place like a sanctuary where legendary fakemon go and they you have the ability to battle them again. A place like heaven or a cloudy ancient place. They just live there then.
