Thank you for admittance into the OccupyDA group! Your message was so thoughtful and heartfelt that I was at a loss for words for a moment. I couldn't agree more with your sentiments about the movement and you seem to echo my thoughts on the necessity for us all to help support one another - not just as a movement but as individual people and families.
Please feel free to share the message sent when applying to the group (my mini 'story' if you will) publicly. We hope to inspire more people who depend on public assistance/government programs to come forward in support of the movement - rather than feeling as if we're the Achilles heel to the movement, since 'living off the government' is another favorite tp for the opposition.
Now I'm the one about to go off on a tangent This has left us feeling inspired though and we're looking forward to SKO being an addition to the group!

It's a good message to share. There's this idea in america that being on public assistance is somehow wrong or shameful, when really that's not the case at all. Those programs exist exactly because people need them, for good reason! Now those services are not only being cut but in very real danger of being eliminated completely, which is not only destructive and hurtful to people but totally unnecessary (in terms of deficit reduction or whatever their talking points are). And the whole reason more people are finding themselves in need of these services is because of a few assholes on Wall St and corruption within the government. I hope more people will start to get the courage to voice that, break the cycle of unnecessary guilt and shame that is allowing austerity and injustice. I applaud your openness

And by all means feel free to go off on tangents, I love it I'm glad you're inspired, you certainly inspired me. That's how it should work, especially among artists, that's why I created the group
