To keep secret, always, the things that've moved me to a place that I can never reach again if i'm holding someone's hand to guide them there. How trying to recreate a place that has taken you years to fall in love with will take years to explain in human language why someone else should love it, too. The trees grew with me, I tell you, they knew that this was a place you could grow your roots into gently.
And what light cast east upon your floorboards as the sun set like a kiss on your cheek. Tell me what words you used to make with magnetic letters on your sketches, tell me the place you used to hide in as if you could create a world within a home within a world.
I'll show you the toolshed where I first fell in love. I'll show you the chicken coops and the playgrounds and the warm, warm room where I fell asleep, once, on the floorboards, and woke up knowing that love had been here in a dream. Maybe not my dream, but a dream nonetheless.
Let's create a world together, and within' that world a parenthetic world where we can create a place where no one else can go but us. I'll feed you parts of me that I've never fed anyone else, and I'll keep scraps of you to sew together to make a quilt to wrap around my own heart when winter sets in. You are so warm to me, blow into my palms. I won't let your furnace die out.
Once i had forgotten that my hands had ever loved to write, then I sat on the desk underneath a photograph of the moon where I wrote my first poem about a boy who reminded me of the dark skeletons of four in the mornings.
I remembered.
Sometimes you can give yourself away in pieces and bits and expect someone to sew you into the person that they want you to be as opposed to the person that you are. I've been thinking tonight about that discrepancy, ask another human being who you believe knows you the best to draw you how they see you.
Find the person whose drawing can be interchanged with your own.
I want to see why you think I'm beautiful but I can't find the places in your world, in your past, that have led you to a beauty so corrupted, so dark-boned and melancholic, so very much in my hue.
Like how we wrote each other letters talking about the same moment from each other's perspective and all I wanted to ramble on about were your hands and your hands and your limbs and the sweet magnetism between our limbs.

You can fall in love with anyone, really, after reading their story. But that doesn't mean I want to.
But this time is different, we're the story and everyone else could fall in love with us.
