Thank you so much for the comments, the fav, and friending me Your gallery is very nice! And I know what you mean about not having your camera on you when you need it the most... Makes you wish you could get it permanently attached to your body. Or why not surgically insert into your arm or your hand, like they do with microchips? Except changing batteries would be a drag... -___-

Reversion In reply to szarancza [2006-06-19 22:07:15 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The implanted camera would be cool; when I was younger I always hoped that someday in the far off future, there would be microchips that would be inserted into your brain that would give you memory banks of info. I'd spend all my money implanting a bunch of foreign languages and medical info. in there, lol. But then that could get awkward if intelligence was based off financial status alone, and then what would stop people from slipping in brainwashing chips? I guess I'm thankful that the brain is still extremely far from being understood well enough to do that, lol.

"I'd spend all my money implanting a bunch of foreign languages..." - OMG, you're a language junkie, just like me XD That is so awesome, because I rarely ever meet Americans who are into linguistics, so way to go!

And btw, I think that half of the fun of learning a foreign language is in the learning process itself - which we would totally miss out on if we could just insert, say, a "Spanish" chip into our brain and be able speak it fluently. Although, I wouldn't that method with memorizing vocab (grammar is way more interesting)

P.S. I'm doing a minor in German ^___^

Reversion In reply to szarancza [2006-06-21 20:51:46 +0000 UTC]

German too? That's too cool! How many languages do you know anyway? (Your username makes me suspicious, lol.)

And I aggree, grammar is neat. ^_^ My favorite thing about languages is how some things can't be truly translated, and sometimes it feels like languages have their own personality and way of thinking behind their structure. I just can't can't wait until I can go to college and test out some other foreign language classes, my highschool is a pain and only has French or Spanish.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

szarancza In reply to Reversion [2006-06-22 04:05:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, my first language is Polish, and I'm fluent in English, semi-fluent in French, beginner in German, and trying to teach myself Spanish (but I'm really slacking off with that last one -___-). I've always loved foreign languages, and I totally agree with you that they have their own "personalities," and affect not only our speech, but also our thinking. I've noticed that in myself especially with Polish vs. English, and there have even been tests that have proven that!

I really wish my college had some non-standard languages, too. Or a linguistics degree... But there are plenty of schools out there that have a really wide selection of language classes, so I'm sure you'll find something that will suit you

Just out of curiosity, what part of Arizone are you from?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Reversion In reply to szarancza [2006-06-22 20:22:16 +0000 UTC]

Polish? That sounds cool. ^_^ I'm native English, and somewhat intermediate in German and French. I can't motivate myself to teach myself Spanish either, as useful as it would be living so close to Mexico, lol.

Oh, and I live in Tucson. Speaking of which, I was watching the news this morning and Tucson placed third on the "sweatiest city" list this year. Phoenix was first, Las Vegas took second, and I have relatives that live in all three! xD So where do you live in Arizona?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

szarancza In reply to Reversion [2006-06-24 04:30:28 +0000 UTC]

I'm in Tucson, too! We've just moved into a house in the south XD Which school do you go to? Wow, you're the second person from Tucson I've met through DA since I joined last month - that's so weird!

Ughh... I used to live in Phoenix and to think that Tucson was so much cooler... but I don't anymore -___- I'm so tired of the heat. I need to go ice-skating. And my brother works in Laughlin, near Las Vegas!

Also, I went with my dad to Bisbee today, and I literally saw Mexico, hehe. But even though it was so much closer to the border than Tucson is, it wasn't nearly as Hispanic-looking, lol.

Cheers!

I go to Catalina Foothills Highschool; which one did you go to? I might have gone there on softball. (And made an absolute fool of myself there aswell, lol.)

The heat is getting to me too, lol. I've lived in cold places all my life, and then I moved here two years ago. I still have slight hopes that just "maybe" it will snow one of these winters... but it never ever does. T__T I never was any good at ice skating but I loved sledding. There was something exhilirating about hopping on a sled, flying down a hill, pulling a sharp turn, and crashing into the snow. xD But I was usually the weirdo building igloos... lol.

And Bisbee sounds vaguely familiar, I'll have to think on if I've ever been there. My "sense of direction memory" isn't too keen.

szarancza In reply to Reversion [2006-06-25 00:50:09 +0000 UTC]

lol, I graduated from CFHS last year. But I only went there during my senior year, because before that I lived in Phoenix. How do you like it there? I had a really sucky time at Catalina Foothills - the teachers and the facilities were great, but I had almost no friends. Then again, maybe that's because it was my last year, and my classmates were just waiting to get out of there, and weren't looking to make any new friends -____-

I can't stand cold, either, and when it comes to it, I'd much rather live in Arizona than Alaska... but STILL... Heh, that would be awesome if it snowed here, though I'm not going to set my mind on that one, lol. Aaah, I haven't been sledding, or skiing for that matter, forever! And I'd always make snowmen (and snowdogs), but never igloos

Bisbee is so pretty, you should go visit some time. I hope I'll be able to go to other places in AZ this summer, too. I doubt I'll be able to make it to the Grand Canyon, but I'd love to see the Kartchner Caverns! I need to get out of the house more

Reversion In reply to szarancza [2006-06-25 05:30:20 +0000 UTC]

Whoa, you went there too? lol. xD Well, I know what you mean about a sucky first year at CFHS. Most people assume that you've been there for awhile and is always too caught up in their circle of friends to really mind. I spent pratically my entire freshman year friendless in all of my classes, and eating lunch in the most random, deserted areas, lol. But sophmore year was a lot easier somewhow, it's a shame you didn't have a second year at CFHS. Oh, and random question, did you happen to have Mme. Fava or Mme. Garon for French? lol.

And this is probably going to sound really stupid, but is Bisbee near a place called Tubac? I think I'm going to have to pull out a map because that place sounds really familiar, but I could just be getting the familiarity confused with a person I know named "Bugbee", lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

szarancza In reply to Reversion [2006-06-25 05:55:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, maybe if I'd stayed for another year... But at least I wasn't depressed about graduating and getting the heck outta there, like some people were

I did have Mme Fava, for AP French! Will you be taking any of her classes next semester? Isn't she the nicest (even if a tad *cough*understatement*cough* disorganized) person ever? XD She really helped me a lot - gave me extra practice materials that I asked for, and had a lot of good advice about college. I still visit her when I come home. If you see her next semester, you can tell her Aleks says "hi" And my brother had Mme Garon, who supposedly would always threaten her class with her glass eye (which turned out to be a lie, lol).

Umm... I don't think there's a place called Tubac near Bisbee. At least that's what MapQuest says, and MapQuest never lies! Hehe, actually, Bisbee is a little southeast of Tombstone - maybe that will help.

Wooo, DA is so addictive.

I can't wait till I'm out of highschool, but I still have to figure out what colleges I'm going to apply to... oh I can sense the stress already, lol. >_<

So, I had Mme. Fava for French 2 and Mme. Garon for French 3. Fava was nice but you're right, she definitely had organizational issues, lol, and apparently she was taking classes at the U of A so she was always ranting about not having enough time. Mme. Garon was nice too but then in 2nd semester... I'm really not sure, I just remember that most of my class (including moi) was struggling with the classwork and she couldn't have cared less. >_< lol. I'm not taking French next year though. But I definitely plan on picking it up again in college.

And I finally found out where I've heard of Bisbee! Apparently my parents bought a painting there, but I didn't go with them. I'll have to make sure to go if they go there again.

szarancza In reply to Reversion [2006-06-27 07:51:06 +0000 UTC]

So, what year are you going to be now? I know you don't want to think about it yet... but any ideas where you might go to college?

It's too bad you won't be taking any more French, but you should definitely continue it in college - you'll most likely do really cool things there (I love my French class ).

Yeah, Mme. Fava was always stressed about the U of A classes. I think she's finishing up with them, though, so hopefully she'll be able to focus more on her own courses, lol. Seriously though - if you ever need French, college, or just life advice, she's a great person to talk to, because she loves her students, especially those that really care about her class. Sorry to hear Mme. Garon let you down...

And you definitely should go to Bisbee if you have a few hours to spare some day

I'm going to be a junior next year. I know one of my applications will definitely go to the U of A since I'm already taking some German classes there over the summer and I like it there so far, not to mention, my mom and a ton of relatives on her side of the family went there and were happy. But, I'm not too fond of staying so close to home.
I checked out one of the "choosing your college" books at the library today to help, but I'm still pretty clueless. All I really know is that I'd like to be a doctor, possibly in dermatology, psychology, or something. But... yea, I really don't have any distinct direction yet, lol.
Would there be any books or sources that you'd recommend?

szarancza In reply to Reversion [2006-06-29 05:34:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've heard many good things about the U of A, and I was thinking of going there, too, but, unfortunately, it turned out they weren't very friendly toward international students like moi -____- And come to think of, I wouldn't want to live so close to home, either. I mean, I love my parents, but I'm OK with loving them at a distance when I'm at college, lol.

What helped me a lot in my college search was fastweb.com It's a really neat website that lets you browse thousands of US schools by major, location, tuition, etc. I'd also suggest you get in touch with people from the Admissions and from the fields that interest you pretty soon - it helps if they know you before you decide to apply. Oh, and I talked to my guidance counselor A LOT throughout my senior year, but that's probably becuase my case was a bit complicated, since I was "international."

Don't worry about not knowing what you want to do yet. Heck, even I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with my degree XD

Reversion In reply to szarancza [2006-07-02 05:02:52 +0000 UTC]

I live about twenty minutes away from the U of A so there definitely wouldn't be any distance if I went there, lol. And apparently they don't like me either since I tried registering for my Summer 2 session German class today and they put an orentation hold on my account again. Which basically means I have to wait until Monday to repeat a meaningless process of them verifying who I am, and then waiting a day or two for the hold to clear. It's not that bad, but it's uber pointless, and it doesn't help the fact that I've procrastinated to get this done, lol.

Oh, and thankyou for telling me about that site! That'll defintely help me a lot. Especially with the easy navigation and the scholariship notifications. It definitely has a lot more schools in its database than my other sources did, and a lot of useful info. I'll probably spend a bunch of time tonight looking through there, thanks again! ^_^

U of A is evil, grrr! I'll bet the people there eat babies for breakfast. But I hope you got all that worked out and can take a German class again, because Deutsch ist Spass!

I'm glad you found fastweb useful. Hopefully, you'll find some really neat schools with it. And since you're interested in languages and medicine, you should check out my school - Centenary College of Louisiana. My French, German, and Psych profs are awesome, and the school supposedly has a very high ratio of people getting accepted to Med School. Plus, Centenary is a really nice place, so there goes my objectivity XD

Reversion In reply to szarancza [2006-07-09 04:33:03 +0000 UTC]

xD I got it worked out but this time I did it "manually" by waltzing around the admin building. The people were nice, but... the whole situation was kind of impractical. >_< lol.

Und ja, Deutsch ist sehr toll! ^_^ I liked my class a lot and can't wait to see people again for the second session. It got kinda awkward when I was said I was 16 though, lol. But even then I was treated like everyone else and I think that laid back social acceptance really has me looking forward to college. Not that I know what it's like, but I suppose with everyone being new to the school, people would be more open to meet new people. (*CFHS hate* JK, LOL.)

And I'll definitely check out your school. ^_^ I haven't found very many colleges to add to my "considering list" yet, and that sounds like a good one to look at. ^_^

szarancza In reply to Reversion [2006-07-10 04:38:55 +0000 UTC]

It's good that you got it all worked out and that you like your class (though I still think the U of A people are evil, lol).

Did you see that storm from two days ago?? It was sooo crazy! My dad was out of town that day so it took him forever to come back to Tucson because the highways had turned into muddways. And the street behind our house totally resembled a wild mountain river XD Fortunately, our house didn't get flooded - hope yours was dry, too!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Reversion In reply to szarancza [2006-07-12 21:56:57 +0000 UTC]

xD Apparently my new German teacher is evil, assigns triple the homework and isn't very good at instructing. I think the only good thing is that the class has quite a few new people and the new people are still assuming that I'm a college student. Which makes it very tempting to wait and reveal my age on the last day, lol.

And it stormed here pretty bad too but I didn't see any severe flooding. There was rather large pond outside my window though, and my mom had some drops land on her head because one of the higher windows wasn't properly secured or such, lol. The "wild mountain river" must've looked pretty cool, or at least once you knew it wasn't going to expand over and flood your house. I bet that might've gotten some interesting pictures! xD

Oh man, you're right! That WOULD have been awesome photo material!! Ah well, there's always next time... lol!

Evil teachers suck! *throws random office supplies at your German prof* But you know who's even worse than evil teachers? Lazy teachers! I once had a physics teacher who would basically read out of the textbook for 30 minutes, and then make us complete a bunch of problems from the book. Most. Boring. Class. Ever.

But it's funny that no one knows you're still in high school XD Similar thing happened to me at CFHS, though it was the reverse - during my senior year, I had to take a few freshman and sophomore classes to graduate (due to the differences in Polish/American requirements). And since I pretty much look like a 15-year-old, everyone in my class assumed I was a sophomore or something... until it came up in a conversation and jaws dropped when I said I was 19, and graduating

Reversion In reply to szarancza [2006-07-13 05:01:23 +0000 UTC]

I just realized this, but I've never had such an interesting conversation with someone on DA before! Or found someone who actually went to my same highschool. xD So, thanks for talking with me. Lol, that does sound a tad cheesy.

Aw, that must've sucked with that teacher though. I'm taking physics next year, but from the random things of physics that I've seen, that must've been a pain to learn with only the book. I've NEVER had a good textbook. I think my most lazy teacher was one I had for a computer class; he had us peer grade our quizes, and did scantrons for our tests. He pretty much gave us this chunky book and told us to learn it too. >_<

And that also must've sucked to have to taken the classes with kids younger than you. I do see that sometimes with people that transfer, ranging from a senior in my history class, to a freshman in my math. D:

Oh yea, I had to tell a new classmate my real age today, since she asked if I was graduating college soon, lol. I think the main element to my appearance of being older is that I grew tall really quickly in elementary school. The only thing that really gets to me, is that if I look older now, what's going to happen when I'm an adult looking older than my real age? >_< I guess I'll get senior citizen discounts? *tear* JK, LOL.

szarancza In reply to Reversion [2006-07-17 05:21:25 +0000 UTC]

I haven't had such a nice on-going conversation with anyone on DA before, either XD And it just amazes me how small is this world. BTW, I hope you don't mind my constantly bombarding your comments page - if you wanna take revenge on mine, go ahead

Did you have that computers teacher here at Catalina Foothills? My brother had Thompson last semester, and your description sounds a lot like what he told me about that class, lol.

Wow, so they thought you were graduating from college? Haha, I can think of many an advantage of looking older than you are in reality!

I'm such a polar opposite of you as far as that goes! People always tell me I look way younger than I really am (plus, I'm reeeally short). The other day, one of the library ladies at my college asked me if I went to a local high school, and when I told her I was a student there, and had just turned 20, I swear her eyes turned into saucers... and then she quietly backed off XD
