That and the effort that goes into producing everything then yes, me I'd have no idea where to start apart from it has to be done well to give off the desired result so that someone in the "know" can pick your cosplay instantly that you are portraying

that would be the "professional cosplayer" style. Most people just do it for fun.

I mean. Those that want to get EVERYTHING absolutely spot on and accurate. The awesome looking ones that look like they actually are the cosplays. But you're right. There is a lot of craftsmanship involved. If you ever did want to cosplay I could give you tips and/or advice if you ever wanted to give it a go. I mean, I'm no pro but its always fun to give cosplays a try.
