Ok,
Well if your going for a the Caricature look then you need to understand real faces. The most important thing on a persons face are thier eyes. You can cover a persons entire face leaving the eyes open and you can tell whi that person is. And of course the rest of the face is equaly important. The thing to remeber when doing caricatures is that you need to keep a level of consitensy with the facial features relative to what it looks like in real life. Simply just exagerate the persons features while keeping the basics unique shapes of that persons features. And I cant stress enough, practice, practice, practice, practice. And more practice. I draw 12-14 hours a day.
To add to that dont try to draw it slow and get all the lines just right. Do rapid sketches. That way you can work out the features a lot better. Then take your approved sketch and trace over it with tight lines. Its a little difficult to explain it like this. I hope that helped out if not you can call me. Ill send u my number in a note.

I mostly like american comics. I do like Anime related material but I dont practice that particular art style. I draw a lot so I have been out of touch latley in the comicbook arena. But I am currently reading, Ultimates 3 by Joe Mad(this is my favorite comicbookartist), Iron& The Maiden by Francis C, and Sky Runner by Garza. Im a visual guy and I like story as well. A lot of the comics out there manga and american hire these low brow artist to tell these stories and its irratating. So its been kinda hard for me to find anything that I like. I mean the story can be awesome. But if the artist is a hack I cant read it.

i do agree that the comic industry everywhere is hiring artist of low calibur now-a-days. I mean what can you do if they are ready to make money before they make art that is bound to happen. I have to have a near flawless design concept before i read a book...so if you don't mind me asking have you gone to school, do you work on any professional projects, or are you justs freelance?

Yes I did attend school. I studies 3D art/animation at School Of communication Arts in Raleigh, NC. Self taught artist with some highschool art classes under my belt. Didnt really learn a great deal there. Im currently working on a comicbook series called Nephilim which Im nearly done on this series. Lead designer for the whole project which is also being made into a movie. This will be my for foray into comics and its been a great learning experiece for me. And my art has improved 3 fold due to the sheer amount of drawing i have to do each day for the comic. You can check out IMDB.com and search for Nephilim to see info on the movie and Nephilimthemovie.com and Nephilimthecomic.com.

No problem brother. Always in search of unique styles. And thatnk you for the fav!! Everyone seems to like that one. It gets the most hits, lol.
Hhaha yea. I use sketchbook pro 2 exclusively with a wacom tab. Drawing digitally is basicaly the same as drawing on paper. U just have a little more option at your disposal. However using the wacoms take a little getting used to. I love my tablet but very soon here I should have a Wacom Cintiq. That will allow me to draw naturally as I can draw directly on the screen as if I had a huge sketchbook in my lap, and still have all the tools available to me. Currently the way Im set up now is my tabs to my right. So I never ever look at the tablet just the screen. But Im not complaining, lol. Check out the wacom site, they have some good deals on refurb tabs. Look forward to seeing you grow in the digital area. Your first attemp with Photoshop is good!!

ooh, thanks very much! how much does the waccom cintiq cost? i get a 4 month long break from college for summer so i'll be practicing waccom every weekday for 4 months (theoretically... depends how frustrated i get) so hopefully i'll get pretty good before too long
... i need to learn to use colour better in my work so my plan is that the waccom should help!

Cintiq runs about 2500 bucks. But thats the big ones. the 21 and 22inch. They have a smaller one that like 1000. But I dont like the way the screen is shaped on that little one. So its basically personal prefrence. If you can just visit the Wacom site and before you purchase one of those Cintiq's I would try to demo one if you can. Im pretty sure there really nice but u never know. LOL. Thnx for the extra faves and the watch.

Since graduating from SCA (School of Communication Arts) in Raliegh, NC I have exclusively used SketchBook Pro2 for all of my work. I really enjoy drawing digitally and I wont be using paper anytime soon. All of the digital illustrations I post will have a logo beside it demonstrating its creation in SketchBook Pro. I still draw on paper but its mostly if I'm away from my PC or when I'm doing on the spot drawings like caracitures, landscapes and cafe' drawing.
