I like Hetalia because i am basicly a History-nerd (I am waiting for the universities to take me for History & Library studies or History + Language studies for studying for the next years) and currently work even in a historical place (concentration camp memorial - yes, i am a german ) and i love the concept of Hetalia which parodies a lot historical stuff between the countries while though having ambitions for being dark and serious like heck.
It makes me also laugh a lot about the stereotypes of my own country which i think to be funny as hell (i just can't stop laughing about Germany and Prussia, basicly because i live in the east of germany, former prussian area and they still say to be people of my town be a bit like prussia - loud honest and straight forward. it made me more aware for things like that and made me think a lot. Also it gave me a reason to say "i like my own countries" without being looked here in germany as nazi or at least being looked at like i did something forbidden. Patriotismn in germany is always thought as 'last time we had patriotism, we had third reich' in the eyes of politicans and most people. They even told that when everyone here was waving flags because of the soccer world cup and politics even were afraid of people becoming nazis. Silly politics. Β Β )
And i don't even start about all the jokes. But i start to sorry for writing so much. Just couldt stop without explaining with examples. Looks like my teachings from school burst through again.Β

My being a bit of a historian I too find the show quite enjoyable. Anyway speaking of Flag waving, did you know we had a little issue involving the Confederate flag not to long ago and now many people want to banned it because it's offensive despite nobody banning the Nazi or Soviet Flag sales in online stores.

Well, it was for me - as german - ever since strange that you sold those nazi flags. everything with those symbols on it is forbidden in germany and censoring dosnt make stop at games and stuff like this.
I even had discussions in a event i were if you should even show these in a museum.
Overhyped political correctness i call that, and i find 80% of it as stupid as femnazisΒ
But tell me about flags. I am highly interested in prussian history (i maybe wanna even study that) and have a flag of that. (the black-white-black one with the eagle) and friends and family thought i would be nazi now. Most awkward moment in my life.Β

we have a paragraph for that called Β§86a which outlaws the use of symbols of unconstitutional organisations. it covers the distrubition or public use of symbols, flags, insignia, uniforms, forms of greetings, slogans ect pp
(aka nazi symbolismn and all to that belonging)
If they get you in front of the law for that, you can be put for up to three years into prison and can make you loose your right to work in official places, to go into politics, gain rights from votings , or voting in general, also they take of course everything connected to that away from you.Β
Since you are a wolfenstein fan:
My mother used to own a floppy disc version of the first wolfenstein. She had to destroy it and hand it over because of the symbolismn.Β
Also we can't get an uncensored version of the game here. You cant play wolfenstein in germany without internetauthentification and then you immediatly get the cencored rip off. (no symbols, story was changed, even ranks were changed and of course 90% less blood. Versions from usa or other countries fall under paragraph 86 and have to be taken away even while importing them. Every game in germany which was sold before 2009 - no matter which wolfenstein - had to be destroyed. )

I think it dosnt. Some persons i know often use Austria for importing games which are heavily censored or not aviable stuff uncensored and with german language. (Alien games for example, or dead island)
Paragraph 86 is very strictly followed though and the Zoll has the right to take everything immediatly away when they see it.
So you could try to import it but it wont end in your hands and you probably will get problems with law.Β

My mother lived on the West-Side of Berlin and rest of family lived on East side of Berlin.Β
Actually i know about both sides, since i were born in Berlin.Β
Also my stepfather lived in the former DDR (cumministic controlled east germany).Β
