I have often thought why it is that as I returned to the faith, you became more overt in your condescension of it. I thought why is it that as I revert, he is simultaneously falling away? Two Catholics by birth, pagans by life, one goes home the other gets further away. It didn't make any sense to me.
I felt like I had matured, in one respect or another. Not particularly sure what that means, but just that my priorities were different. A brush with death, a destroyed family, a woman who seemed more interested in my own abandoned faith than I did. With a very clear certainty I saw that I was not invincible, I was not immune and I was probably wrong. About a lot of things. Everything I had put a priority in... didn't matter.
But I never understood, until kind of recently why you fell and resented. Then I remembered that you were raised in the Novus Ordo. You didn't go to latin mass. You weren't privy to tradition. You didn't have high masses and incense and choirs. You got the condensed, abridged and liberalized version of the church. Why would you want to go back to that? Why do you think when protestants conver to catholicism they convert to traditional catholicism? Its because there's really not much of a difference between a protestant service and a novus ordo.
Don't get me wrong. Its certailny valid and will serve to fulfill the obligation. Licit is another question. Reverent is another question. Sacrilege might even be a question.
But thats just it. Why would you return to the modern church? Hopefully, with Benedict at the Helm the novus ordo will slowly just disappear. Its already happening. Not sure if you heard, but the Chancery is investigating a Eucharistic miracle at St Augustines. A consecrated host was dropped on the floor during a weekday mass and father put it in the Chalice with water to dissolve it. He came back on the feast of Corpus Christi and not only had the host not dissolved, it was a bloody piece of flesh. Here is a link with pictures: [link]
I've been spending most of my free time reading scripture, doctrine and apologetics. I've fallen in love with the Catholic faith in a way that I never thought possible to be enamored with something. The things of this world are fleeting, trivial and vain. Hope and virtue is in Christ Jesus. He didn't die any more for me than He did for you. Reconcile yourself with Our Lord. I have never met a person with such will and determination as you. You would make a great Catholic. God knows we need them. This website will teach you all about tradition. It grieves me that you weren't exposed to it. [link]
I pray for you. At every mass, with every rosary. I can't help but remember how absolutely bitter you were with everything and how badly you must have been suffering. With God's grace, my life feels complete for the first time. And it only gets better by the day. I dont' know how this will find you, but know that you are in my prayers.

if you ever honestly care to discuss the issues of faith and religion with me again, you can call my parents and they will let me know. im sure you remember the number. and to be honest, ive probably had a stricter catholic upbringing than you have...you even admitted that before. and after care analysis of the past of the catholic church and the present, and the changes that occurred...i can quite confidently say that i can still hold true to the core of Catholicism the same way the i hold true to the basic premises that America was based upon. But the way you have phrased your comment on my profile makes you sound like a blind follower, who has foresaken reason for illusionary comfort offered by those who have no ability to give it. So once again, I say....if you honestly want to talk, you know where to find me. I dont pray, but I will certainly have hope in my soul that God will help you.

To explain: meeting with you will accomplish nothing. What will ensue would be a personal battle of wits, not a pursuit of truth.
With a correspondence like this both parties have time to think about what they're saying, substantiate it with evidence and be clear as to their thoughts.
Meeting in person will not accomplish this. You know this. It would be a battle of wits, emotions and manipulations. Such discourses are fruitless.

Who cares if you had a "more catholic upbringing" than I? I don't even know what that means. Am I going to answer for my upbringing, or am I going to answer for what I did? This isn't about my parents, your parents or anything else. I don't even want this to be about me.
You offer words without substance. If you are so concerned about the Church, you can tell me why. If we talk about anything we will talk about the faith, and we will do it civilly without emotion.
Oh, and you remember when we went to the rectory and you pounded on the door demanding to see a priest? A priest hasn't lived there in years. The janitor and a teacher from St. Agnes live there. No wonder no one answered the door.
