Happy birthday.

Damn, wow, you remembered my birthday? I haven't been here in ages. I'm just checking the place out after like... 9 months, I think. I joined the army and haven't really had much internet lately. Left my tablet at home too. So nice of you to remember though. Just made my day, which was pretty crumby otherwise.

Glad I can make your day.Β  It helped that DA notified me however.Β  Still, it's been a while, I missed you man.

Pretty shitty actually. Being in the army isn't great fun, at this point. How about you?

Uber-Dan In reply to RunbowDash [2014-11-07 06:07:42 +0000 UTC]

I've been good.Β  I improved my writing, started using the first person perspective, grew my cast of OCs to over 60, plan on having a voting system of sorts for suture fics where the readers votes have an impact on the story, made human forms of my OCs, joined a dev team for a MLP game, and started looking for a new computer.Β  Been busy over all.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RunbowDash In reply to Uber-Dan [2014-11-08 11:14:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow. You have been busy. Are you submitting something every other week now? You're on a dev for a game? I was doing that I did background vectors for the Welcome to Ponyville visual-novel style game but it went kaput about 2 years ago over some controversy. I was going to upload the vectors that I did for them when I was at home next. What are you doing, writing or arting? How do you keep up with 60 OCs? Do they all have current stories?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Uber-Dan In reply to RunbowDash [2014-11-08 13:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Yep, I joined the dev team in January though progress is slow due to the spriters being busy with collage.Β  Right now my main focus is the game but I'm also working on the final chapter of a Pokemon fan fiction called, "Journey to Greatness." which I've been at since April 2013 and I'll be glad to have it done after a year and a half of writing it.Β  Looking back at it you can tell it was made over a long period of time.

As for how I keep up with so many OCs, I have a folder on my computer called "Character Refs" that has a single picture of each of them.Β  They are farther split into race.Β  They don't all have stories yet but I do have plans for them all.

As for the game, we're keeping it underground so if you promise to not out anythingΒ  online about it I'll note you.

RunbowDash In reply to Uber-Dan [2014-11-09 03:12:45 +0000 UTC]

So you're not one of the spriters then? Or do you just do everything? I can understand why you would want to keep it secret. I won't pry.

Uber-Dan In reply to RunbowDash [2014-11-09 03:45:07 +0000 UTC]

I handle some of the programing, specifically character data meaning their moves, stats, ect.Β  I have 331 entries to do total.

Also, another way I keeo track of my OCs if this nice document: fav.me/d73qdhg

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RunbowDash In reply to Uber-Dan [2014-11-10 11:18:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh damn, you do have a lot of OCs. And your doing the character data for 331 characters? Damn, that's gonna take you ages.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Uber-Dan In reply to RunbowDash [2014-11-10 14:21:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, a variety of stories demands a big cast.Β  Thanks to the engine we're using there isn't as much data to make for each of them as most other engines and that's helping a ton.Β  I'm actually well ahead of schedule and I've been slacking lately, something I need to stop.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RunbowDash In reply to Uber-Dan [2014-11-11 06:14:47 +0000 UTC]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Uber-Dan In reply to RunbowDash [2014-11-12 05:27:04 +0000 UTC]

I actually do finish a story before starting a new one, usually.Β  Holiday short stories are an exception as the only have a single chapter.Β  Once I tried experimenting but it only delayed both and didn't really help.Β  As for now, I want to finish my Pokemon fan fiction so i can get started on another story.

Predelnik In reply to RunbowDash [2012-12-04 09:46:14 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that's cool. It just have some windows-only issue, that really annoys me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RunbowDash In reply to Predelnik [2012-12-04 13:41:43 +0000 UTC]

If you want the stabilisation in GIMP then you will need atleast 2.8. 2.6 has a spot for it in the interface, but it does nothing. Unfortunately, even in 2.8 the stabilisation is movement based, so it waits till your cursor is a few dabs away before it actually starts drawing the line. It has some other tricky stuff in it as well, which makes it nice but then when you want to finish a line, you always have to overdraw it to get it to the correct ending point. This was super annoying and I could never get it right so it was the deal-breaker for me, this and the fact that GIMP cannot blend! MyPaints one is much nicer because it can be position based and time based at the same time. So you just have to hold your cursor where you want to finish, for a moment and wait for the line to catch up. It's just that in the latest MyPaint, even on max level, the stabilisation has very little delay. I'm not aware of what the issue is in Windows, though I did have to jump through loops to get 2.8.2 to work in Gentoo.

Predelnik In reply to RunbowDash [2012-12-04 19:20:50 +0000 UTC]

Well now I'm mostly using tiny java program which was online thing only, but I've modified it a little, so now it works offline too (also learnt a little about programming in java this way ), and now I can even do further modifications, but since I'm basically almost the only one who is using it, don't have enough motivation to do it . And it looks like stabilisation there works just as you describe so it's fine.

By the way I noticed that the issue that was I talking about was half-way fixed in 2.8.2. Well in 2.8.0 while moving cursor outside the canvas window while pen is close to tablet was causing all sorts of glitches like some random strokes that u can't undo and such stuff, and because of it you literally couldn't zoom in because if you are zoomed in, every time you do something near the boundary would lead to this thing. Now it just flickers between brush and it's settings selected for mouse/tablet while I'm moving over the over windows, still annoying but doesn't glitch.

Also I don't like the way how gimp treats brush opacity, maybe it's not a big deal actually but for incremental brush it is - in Gimp if you have for example white canvas and black brush with 1 percent of opacity, you will never be able to get fully black color, you'll get some (128,128,128) stuff and that's a limit. Dunno why but for other programs I checked it works okay.

RunbowDash In reply to Predelnik [2012-12-05 12:32:07 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah I'm kinda annoyed at GIMP lately because it does have a lot of issues, I guess it really is just made for photo modification, though I would really like to have some of it's features in MyPaint. I've never even heard of this tiny java thingo. I used to get issues like this on GIMP 2.6 on Mint but it was if I drew a perfectly horizontal or vertical line it would spaz-out and draw lines everywhere. I guess they are still ironing out the bugs with the various windowing systems. I've never noticed this thing with the opacity, but it wouldn't surprise me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Predelnik In reply to RunbowDash [2012-12-05 17:30:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah gimp is kinda strangely not very comfortable to use, btw I've just recently tried to use Blender a little, it's not a drawing program of course, but such a great quality, incredible independent interface, without any ms windows specific bugs, lags or anything. Dunno why but quality of opensource programs really differs from case to case. Btw haven't u tried using Krita from KDE package? It sometimes crashes on windows but looks very nice))

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RunbowDash In reply to Predelnik [2012-12-06 02:17:17 +0000 UTC]

I have used Blender, and I would say that it's about on par with GIMP. It's interface is currently undergoing an extreme make over, though it could still be a lot simpler, compared to some of the other 3D studios. But I do like the way that it cuts the crap and it has a lot of very advanced features. I really like it for modelling, though I have also tried using it for animation and that's when it gets kinda hard to use. I've never tried the game engine, though it's supposed to be pretty good for video editing too.
Haha, Krazy Krita. I used it for a bit, it's like a mix between MS paint and MyPaint. It certainly doesn't have the same options that GIMP has. Though I only used it for very simple drawing so I don't know if it would have the same draw-backs with the opacity and it wouldn't have that window bug, atleast. It's KDE's premier drawing program, so it really should be on par with GIMP. It crashes? That sounds very annoying.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Predelnik In reply to RunbowDash [2012-12-06 09:35:41 +0000 UTC]

No I guess on linux it's fine, crashes only on windows, and it's mainly because their first windows build was not so long ago, so it's kinda in alpha stage. Well I believe it's targeted more on drawing than on photo editing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RunbowDash In reply to Predelnik [2012-12-06 11:27:42 +0000 UTC]

The windows version still shouldn't crash though. I'm not using it at the moment because I like MyPaint better and I'm on Gnome at the moment. It's very much more targeted on drawing but it still has rulers and cut-paste and layers and stuff which puts it ahead of MyPaint.
