# About me

I go by many names... Some call me Daniel... Some call me the Ginger Hermit... but alas, my true alias is-

Ah, screw it. Name's Luke Wall, and my pen name is Ruku Kabe. My pen name is derived from the Japanese pronounciation of my name. Kabe is Japanese for wall, and my name is actually "Ruuku" when written in katakana, but I shortened the middle U because I didn't like my pen name having that long dash in the middle. It would have been ルーク as opposed to ルク.

Either way, here's a little bit about me: I'm 18, turning 19 this September, currently a high school graduate, training in the art of manga. I spend most of my time doing one of three things 1) Drawing, and drawing some more, and then erasing it because I don't like how it turned out, then drawing some more. XP 2) Watching anime and reading manga to the point where I'm pretty sure I could live without food for a week, but if I skip my manga dose I'm a dead man. O_O and 3) Studying Japanese to both to contribute towards my career of choice and also as a back up so that I can get a job as a translator if everything else falls through. I'll be heading to the Yamasa Institute in October, which is a language study school for teaching Japanese.

Hey there, I saw your topic about your Skyrim comic and thought I'd give my two cents. If iit is a free fancomic made for fun and celebration then go ahead. But if your aim really is to publish it then you are running into problems. Liscenses are generally something you pay for, especially if its something big like this.

Why not just make your OWN world of vikings and dragons?

Ruuku-Kabe In reply to weremole [2012-11-23 08:01:36 +0000 UTC]

I did happen to think that out. Skyrim I just felt was a very rich and full world already there ready for a story to jump out of it.

And as far as licences go... I guess I kind of skimmed over it and got a little ancy at the idea. Do you think it's possible if it started off as a webcomic I could start a kickstarter and get the money necessary for the licensing? Or would that be considered profiting from the works of Bethesda?

weremole In reply to Ruuku-Kabe [2012-11-23 08:15:51 +0000 UTC]

It would be considered profiting of their works. You can of course just try to contact them. Better that than jumping the gun and you'll know right out the bat rather than work on something anxiously.
There is another option. To not every bring up the name Skyrim or Elderscrolls and change the designs slightly enough that it can stand on its own. But then it isn't so much an official Skyrim comic as a comic that plagiarizes Skyrim for content.

Which is why I think just creating your own world at the end of the day will demand less beurocratic hassle and in the end be more rewarding creatively.

True indeed... I debated doing a graphic novel with a story I have saved for my book... and it contains many ES-esque qualities (one of which being a cat-like race). It's still up in the air, but with this information it definitely gives me some firmer ground to stand on as to how I need to approach this.
Being as I have NO commercial works published yet it will be rather difficult to get Bethesda's attention unless my script is flawless and somebody just so happens to take the time to read it. Lol. I'll contact them but I won't put any bets on it. The worst they can do is say no, right?
Anyways, thanks for the advice. Definitely helps me step back and think things through. ^_^

Yeah. Not even George RR Marting gets to write Doctor Strange just because he says he wants to. To make fanwork into official works you need something like what James Stokoe did with Godzilla: The Half-Century War. Where it was a few pages of fancomic he did for fun that where so impressive that when IDW got the Godzilla license, fans where exclaiming how much they wanted it or just Stokoe drawing a comic for them. In the end he did.

Mhm. I guess I'll just push it as a fancomic then. I'm honestly just trying to get something out there. My artistic skills are fairly premature but my writing skills, I don't mean to brag, are really solid. I've been writing as a hobby about 10 years now. I have tons of material to use. Want a high fantasy? Boom. File number 2 (theoretically speaking). Want a supernatural thriller? Got it. Next draw. Sci fi superhero?... you get the idea. Lol.
My only drawback is my late start at getting art into the picture. Once that's solid, man, I gawk over seeing some of these ideas becoming manga's/comics.
So for now... I guess "practice makes perfect" never more-so applied to my situation. Lol.

Yeah, you need to get things out there. Nothing happens if its collecting dust in a drawer somewhere.

Thank you! And indeed it is! The only thing is I've reworked the geography and locations of the world for my book over and over. I'm just hoping that this one works out. Lol.
And you most certaintly will! ^_^
