Well, a few words once in a while would be comforting enough. It's nice to see you are still around.

Yeah, probably won't ever leave! I'm doing some art but not anything I'd put on here.

I see your doing quite a bit of writing now?

kwikdraw In reply to S-Waterfly [2015-07-23 20:01:02 +0000 UTC]

That's so nice to hear! Hmm... Now I am curious to see what you draw.

I am too busy to draw like I used to. Since I love reading, I am spending most of the free time I have on reading and writing, as it is easier to finish (or just abandon) than starting a painting. Usually, I would research on a thought, an idea, or any technique that comes to mind (i.e., google it up to see what is out there), then experiment to see if I can improve it. In a way, it is self-teaching, I suppose.

S-Waterfly In reply to kwikdraw [2015-08-01 17:08:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh just animals of course! Sometimes landscapes too though, depending how much mess I'm allowed to make I actually do a lot of photography now too

Yeah, also takes up a lot less space! That sounds good, do you ever hope to do it more professionally?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kwikdraw In reply to S-Waterfly [2015-08-01 17:21:32 +0000 UTC]

You must love animals, yes? Painting landscapes is fun, especially if you have a friend who go with you to paint en plein air.Β  That and bring a camera to take photos.

Writing is cool. I love one day to become a fiction writer. The genre I choose is probably mystery or any kind of psychological thrillers. Anything that taps in to human condition would be interesting, too. But to get to professional level, I still need to read a lot to tune my mind into thinking in those worlds. Can be fun.

Great writing to you again, dear friend.

I do indeed, I'm hoping to do zoology at university in September. Yeah, sadly I haven't got that many arty friends to go out with Β

Yeah, I'm quite into photography that has a graphic element too it, I've been tempted to upload some here instead of art. Looking back at my old artwork I might take some down!

I like that genre! I'll read some of your work for you Yeah, reading a lot will let you develop what style of writing you like as well. What is it that you do at the moment?

Indeed, its nice catching up

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kwikdraw In reply to S-Waterfly [2015-08-01 18:52:04 +0000 UTC]

Zoology? That is awesome. You know, an artist friend of mine (much older than I am, though) is working at a University. All she does is drawing birds.
Yeah, I guess most zoology students are not artists, so I see what you are saying there. You know, I would love to go out with you.
I like photography, but it can be an expensive hobby. And, no, please don't take down your art. Just add photos to your gallery instead.

I'd love to let you read my work. However, right now, I am doing mostly the reading part. I just love learning in general.

Yeah!

S-Waterfly In reply to kwikdraw [2015-08-01 19:02:44 +0000 UTC]

Oh nice, yeah I hope to combine my art, photography and zoology at sometime in the future because I never want to stop doing my art. I have to say I love watching and drawing birds too, I understand why she does it!
Yes, it can get very expensive. I was very lucky is the way that my school had a lot of studio equipment and we were allowed to borrow it if you were a student.Β
Its just so old though, I forget how young I was when I started drawing online!

That's fair enough. Yeah, that's something I've noticed about you, you love learning techniques and perfecting them!Β

Very interesting and admirable of you (and my friend), because I don't find a strong connection to animals.
Actually, I studied photography a little bit, got really good with the understanding and theory of it, shot some photos, then stopped. I stopped for several reasons, one of which was because in order to tell a story that I enjoy, I need to find a connection between me and the people in certain settings. (I don't quite enjoy studio shootings.) For that endeavor alone, it is difficult due to lack of time, to say the least. The next best thing would be to paint portrait, I suppose.

Learning is fun.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

S-Waterfly In reply to kwikdraw [2015-08-01 21:48:23 +0000 UTC]

I've always had a strong connection to animals, and have always wanted to do something that involved them in one way or another.

See, I'm also not keen on studio shoots, I find them a bit emotionless. Due to my course though it was often the best option because I live in the country and it was hard to get anywhere, also the weather is extremely temperamental in the UK which made these things all the more difficult. Again, my favourite subject to take photos of is animals or landscapes, I love to take a good photo and then draw from it.Β

The best way to do photography though is just to take a camera with you where ever you go rather than plan photos, I think pictures come out better than way because you never know what you're going to come across.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kwikdraw In reply to S-Waterfly [2015-08-01 23:05:26 +0000 UTC]

There is always something about folks who live in the countryside and the love of animals. (tee hee)
I think photography is a very effective and appropriate tool if you are painting animals and landscapes. For painting people, however, the fun part is to find the connection during the process of painting. Sure, I can make some such connections when painting from a photo, but it is not the same.
And yes, as you said, if you are interested in photography, you almost always have to bring a camera with you wherever you go. They are like your own eyes.

I have drawn on the elementary school and also a bit on high school but nothing serious and not on this kind of level. I knew I had talent for drawing but I didn't expect that it would develop soooo fast. For the past 10 years I have not drawn at all and started again on the 16th of January. I have a bachelor degree in Physics haha, so something totally different

S-Waterfly In reply to Jeroen88 [2013-05-16 13:31:48 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah that is completely different Yepp, you've defiantly got a talent and a lot of patients spending so much time on your drawings What made you start drawing again?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jeroen88 In reply to S-Waterfly [2013-05-18 16:11:56 +0000 UTC]

My brother made me start again. He was painting one day and had so much fun while doing this and then I thought maybe I should try to draw again. Look if I still know how to draw and then I remembered a great drawing talent from a few years ago in my country rajacenna and remembered that she could draw really amazing portraits. So I thought maybe I can try to draw a portrait and just look how it comes out

Ah, I googled rajacenna, she is a very good drawer!
Well done for starting drawing again! I plan to maybe put from more 'traditional' art on here at some point, just don't have the time at the moment
