I liked the movie well enough, but for a while I hadn't been able to say why I liked it. Your post highlighted some of those ideas. Also I tend to reserve judgement on movies that I understand to be part of a trilogy, therefore I believe that perceived plot-holes might be cleared up by the last movie of that trilogy. This is coming from someone who born in 1993 grew up with the Special Editions and the Prequel Trilogy. If there is truly such a thing as a "moderate fan" I like to think that I am that sort of fan.

I honestly have very little idea as to how Episode IX is going to go. I just really hope that the reveals and ideas of this movie are not "retconned". And even as they stand, the plotholes of the movie don't bother me that much, though I do acknowledge them.
