aww thank you so much! well, you are in for a treat then when you pick up crocheting! trust me, amigurumi-ing is the next best thing in crochet. i got really bored of doing the usual cellphone cases and cozies, and found this a lot more fun! <3

Do the materials tend to cost you much to pick up? I don't believe we have any crocheting needles in the house.
Where do you usually buy your mats? x) I believe hobbycraft probably has some stuff, but they tend to be a bit expensive.

i didnt actually buy mine...they were jsut passed down to me. but the one i am currently using is the one that my parents bought me. it's a japanese one and it's really worth it because it has a cushion already. it's roughly $25.00 for a set if it's the japanese one
for yarn, i go for acrylic yarns because they're thick enough but still not bulky, and i love the brightness of the colors. the colors also translate really well in pictures
for eyes, safety eyes are quite expensive, i think buttons [i think they'll look really adorable with this] or even felt will do.
stitch markers...u can use a simple safety pin for this

Awesome! Great that it doesn't sound that expensive.
My Gran and Mum are knitters, so it's probably possible they've done crocheting at one point in their lives and have materials and needles lying around, as well as patterns.
But the wee beasties you make are so adorable not to want to try my hand.
