I -just- saw your note, I have a tendency to forget those notes in the front. I still can't get that boss, I was wondering if you could help me with him! I would appreciate it!

Are you on flickr? It's very nice for uploading a bunch of pics, although there are some data limits. But there are some amazing photos on it.

LOL! I cannot see 3D and that's why I can afford to keep an eye on you (I don't see with my both eyes in the same time in order to get 3D images, but that helped me in preserving my eyes health during the years in front of my computer).

I only see 2d. In front of my computer I see the 2d screen and in real life I see my 2d LCD screen on my camera.

serbcata In reply to Sadocles [2007-04-08 21:47:57 +0000 UTC]
LOL!
You are joking, but I was serious. I really cannot see 3D. I understand the distance as in the pictures (by the light intensity and objects dimensions).
My 2D LCD doesn't help me to much because I don't see the picture on my LCD before I take it. I have the same system as for the old good analog cameras.

I had a kid once in my class who also could not see in 3d. It was amazing to see how he could measure depth without actually seeing it as he moved around!

That's kind of me. It has advantages and disadvantages... Anyway, I cannot do anything about it.
...and I cannot watch 3D movies.

I never actually watch 3d movies!
So you dont know how 'tall' skyscrapers are when you look up at them?

serbcata In reply to Sadocles [2007-04-09 20:35:03 +0000 UTC]
Can you say how tall is a building from a picture? I suppose you do. In the same way I understand the distances. Actually, I had no idea I couldn't see 3D until a doctor told me. I don't know what is the difference between me and the others. I know only that my perceptions about distances differ from the others.
It is a test performed by doctors to check your 3D view. I failed it. I had a hint about that since I was a kid. I went to watch a movie with some special glasses which were suppose to reconstruct a 3D image by two images a little bit distanced and superimposed. All I saw was some blurred stuff since the others were very excited by what they saw. With or without those glasses meant no difference for me.

I find the experience of height one that is hard to experience from a picture. You wouldnt know of course. But I guess that you also can't have fear of heights or anything like that, right?

serbcata In reply to Sadocles [2007-04-09 22:10:51 +0000 UTC]
Actually, I do. Until I get used with the heights, I experience a little bit of fear.
From the pics, one cannot have fear of heights since his/her subconscious realizes he/she is standing on a solid ground. When one watches a movie which shows a scene from high altitude, he/she doesn't experiences the fear, but when he/she is up there, well, it's another story.
Actually, the fear of heights is nothing else but coming from our imagination. I realized that when I was flying. At the beginning, even if I couldn't see I am at 7000 m high from the ground, I had a fear. When I stopped thinking I am at that altitude, I wasn't afraid anymore. Whatever seeing you have, realization that you are far too high in the air provokes a fear which is the organism self-defense. So, even if I cannot see 3D, my mind developed another concept to perceive the distance and the fear of heights is present in my mind.
I gave you the example with the photo because I wanted to give you a hint of my way of perceiving the distances.
Because I studied physics, I know the difference between seeing 3D and 2D. It's the same difference as in holography and photography. In holography, the distance is perceived as a wavelength difference between the incident laser beam and the reflected laser beam. In photography, the distance is perceived as the difference in the light intensity. I cannot perceive the wavelength difference because I don't have a superposition of two wavelength since I cannot see with the both eyes in the same time. But even with one eye, I can perceive light intensity difference, so, I can see the distances. Because I have this problem since I was a kid, my mind doesn't have any problem in perceiving the distances, but I cannot appreciate them accurately. For example, if I want to put a pen in a small box I'm holding it with the other hand, I have to rely on my hands coordination, and not on my eyes. Otherwise, larger differences in the distances, I have no problem in perceive them.

This convo is really ruining the way DA looks, lol!
Anyway, very interesting story on the working of optics. This story reminds of the flatland novel, where there live only squares and other 2 dimensional shapes who can't imagine what it's like to be in a 3 dimensional one. Of course there's a difference; their complete reality is 2d, while yours is 2d in a clearly 3d world (one you actually know of).

serbcata In reply to Sadocles [2007-04-10 16:53:39 +0000 UTC]
Yeap! That story was made to give credibility to some higher dimensionality for our space. Actually, in the strings theory, all the other dimensions (more then 4 - 3 spacial & 1temporal -) are coming from some other symmetries. They are not real dimensions.
Anyway, it's a long story there.
Let's stick to the photography.
