I could hardly agree with you more. I would speculate that resisting fantasy could be seriously harmful. The evidence seems to suggest that's true.

Fantasy is for the beholder.
When I do commissions, ALL wrights go with them, and
unless the owner sells them to a third party,'which is there wright',no one
is ever going to see the pictures.

And I find that "simple" is hard to envision and "takes a lot of thought to make". (Thinking about Rothko and Mondrian as examples!)
