i picked up an epson workforce 1100 for $130. prints up to 13" wide, and uses a mid grade printer ink, which in this case is a plus, as "better" printer inks make it impossible to ink to.

took me about 15 prints to figure everything out exactly, how to avoid border clipping, and tuning my monitor to match the real output colors from the printer.

Theres a 15 degree difference or so from the paper feed to the finished spot, so it doesnt bend the paper, and printing to strathmore 500 series is a breeze.

picked mine up at my local office max when it was sale priced.

Hope this helps!

That's actually pretty helpful in terms of what kinda printer to helps... i"ve been tryin to have the printing done at like FedEx, or Office Depot. And i've noticed that not only are their lightest blues still too dark and reproduce, but that my inks sometimes bead up on top of it. Also i usually have to use the thinnest bristol i can find for their printers.. now i know what to keep my eye out for when i've got some extra cash. Thanks alot

Np man.
yah i started printing at office depot/fedex too, same problem, that and half the time they would only print to really low GSM bristol.
they're printing via laserjet which doesnt help.

Dont be afraid of the blues though, when scanning the finish piece, scan as line-art, it should ignore blues entirely. This will help maintain image quality for when you do print.

this may be a dumb question, but is the line-art thing like a setting? and is that something i should be able to tell the monkeys at FedEx, etc..?
