My professional career has been as Sr. Costume designer for Disney Entertainment Costuming, Imagineering, for 24 very fun years. Studied at N.C. State majoring in product design and illustration and began working on conceptual art for conventions, sets, some books, character designs and parades almost after graduating.I am married most awesomely to another artist with serial obsession issues, except she is far more beautiful in who she is and what she creates (and here I mention our 3 wonderful children as ultimate examples.) who also has a love for children's book illustrations.
My personal passion is for conceptual design, particularly character design and story developmentfor movies.

Tars is described as having those stalk-like ears and bulbous red eyes isn't he? Everybody always "humanizes" him, especially for movie expressiveness, and I can understand why!

Indeed I did. The eyes were a little disturbing actually. Wide eyes and small pupils always denote madness or a concussion to me and it seems hard to get friendly with this guy!

I based it off a Joe Jusko painting. Well, Tars Tarkas is supposed to be a Green Thark and he's not even human. Yes, his eyes do seem a bit big for a Thark. But thank you for the constructive criticism!

Valla Dia is a character in Burroughs 6th Martian book, "The Mastermind of Mars." Another Earthman, Ulysses Paxton was transported to Mars like John Carter. Paxton winds up a lab assistant of Ras Thavas, the Mastermind, who transfers the brains of old rich Martians into the bodies of young Martians. Paxton falls in love with Valla Dia (love at first sight, of course) who's brain is being swapped out with an old decrepit Martian woman's ... the deed is done and Paxton now schemes to restore the beautiful body with the (beautiful) brain of his beloved! Much Martian Mayhem and Murder ensues!
