THIS IS A HUG CERTIFICATE!
Send one to all your friends who you think deserve a hug (which, hopefully includes the person who sent it to you)!!
You might send it to your enemies as well!
It'll really make them stop and think!!!
If you don't receive this back, nobody likes you, and they wish you'd stop bugging them!
If you receive this back 1 time, open up! Find more friends, enemies, or enemies pretending to be friends
If you receive this back 2 times, you're off to a good start! (Unless you sent it to yourself! That's cheating!)
If you receive this back 3 times, you're a good friend.
If you receive this back 4 times, you're truly loved as a friend!!

What is the biggest differens between our religions? I think luthericals are really nice to people that other religions usually don't accept like gays.

We accept everyone with open arms, but we believe that you must be straight in order to be a Christian. We're definitely not a church that hates on anybody or gets involved politically. Evangelical free is a contemporary church that has no weekly messages from the leaders in the national body; the sermons are all up to the individual pastors. I've been to an Evangelical Lutheran church before and I'd say a big difference is the sermon styles (less preachy, more applicable), and a different worship style, more upbeat worship.

It's because the Bible speaks out against homosexuality, and that this is against God's character; something that isn't compatible with who he is. What verses come to mind off the top of my head is most of 1 Corinthians 6 and the second half of Romans 1.

1. We have to remember that the Bible is Gods words BUT written by men.
2. Those parts can be interpret ways that reader wants to understand them. (I haven't read Bible in english but I think it is the same as finish Bible)
3. God makes us the way we are. Homosexuality isn't a choice. They are meant to be that way. They can't chance it.
4. Science has proven, for example, if baby boy is in mothers womb and there is lots of female hormons in mothers body that will affect to the baby and there is big chances that he will become gay. So does that mean homosexuality is mothers fault?
5. When men were writing the Bible their most popular enemy was the philosophers who were gay(atleast most of them had sexual relationships with their teachers). So which is the easiest way to say people:" Listen us, not those people who are wrong"? Yes, saying god hates them because they do bad things(=> they are gay).
Most of these things I have heard from my religion teacher and history teacher. Number 4 from my biology teacher. And I think they are right.
Personaly, I think that God loves us all, so he doesn't tell people that he made them but they aren't good enough because they live the way they are. (I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. My english is bad... -_-'

1. I totally agree with you that the Bible is written by men. But it's God's word, word for word. The man was just the scribe, so to speak.
2. Of course this happens so many times, and I confess I've done it many times, but 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 explicitly says "9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor" slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God" (NIV)... in context, the passage tells of the wicked people who will not inherit God's kingdom (go to heaven).
Romans 1:24-27 states " 24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." (NIV)... This passage deliberately mentions homosexuality as a sin and calls it a perversion. In context, the passage is about the sinful choices and consequences of mankind.
3. God makes us in his image and loves us all. However, our sinful nature prevents us from getting to know God. Even if homosexuality is not our choice, we are ultimately responsible for our own choices, influenced as they may be.
4. I'm not sure if biology points to homosexuality as a gene or a trait at birth. It seems to me like there's no solid evidence that points to such a thing. I remember last year that this argument was all over the news in the USA and based off what I heard, researchers weren't able to come to any solid lead or argument to justify this. I know my Biology teacher said that there wasn't any way there could be a solid evidence. Anyway, even if such a gene exists, we all have a sinful nature from birth and are already against God. Just as people are born into alcoholism and drink because their parents were alcoholics, they still make the choice to drink, influenced as they may be. Even if there is, there's still hope.
5. I don't know about that... I took a church history class once and learned that Jesus mostly spoke out against the Pharisees, Paul and Peter spoke out against church corruption from all sorts of sin issues (including sexual immorality), and those attempting to bring Christianity back to Judiasm. There were some points that Paul did argue with Philosophers, like in Athens in Acts 17 and in Ephesus 18, however they were relatively brief occurances.
I'm sure God loves us all as well, yet we have a sinful nature that gets in the way of this love. To put it plainly, we already stand condemned at birth. We can only give our sins to Jesus and believe in him to restore our love to him. God will only judge us at the end of time, at the last day... that's when his punishments will happen. Our lifestyles are changed as believers, to reflect God's love. In the same way Christians should not judge others, only proclaim the love of God.
It's okay, I totally understand what you're saying

1. My point was that those men, who has written the Bible, would laugh to us if they heard in what kind of world we live now. In that time slaves were accepted, so were marriages between teenager girls and over 30 years old men and women weren't "humans" they were more like things and their men could rape them and it wasn't illegal. So time chances people.
The Bible has many parts where text is sovinistical. I don't think that God tells us that women aren't as important as men. Those parts show us how those people saw the world. The Bible accepts lots of things that nowadays are illegal.
If we take all that is in the Bible literally(like those texts were written in our days) then it looks like homosexuality could be a sin but there is few other issues then.
For example, 2 book of Moses 21:7 (hope it is the same part in English.) My father could sell me to some one as a slave, what could be a good price nowadays? Of course I don't want to be a slave but well the Bible accepts it.
3 book of Moses 19:27 I know lots of men who shave their beard off. How should they die? And do I really have to kill my own dad because the Bible tells me to do that? Etc.
These parts and many others were in newspaper article.
As you can see, Gods words are perfect, but we who write them are not. Those people thought that being gay is an option, they didn't have anykind of proves, they just thought it has to be that way. They would never believe in DNA or even that if the baby is boy or girl it depends on man not a woman, because women can only give X chromosomes, but still it was women fault if the baby was girl instead of boy. And if you would tell that to them, they wouldn't believe you and if you could prove that they would call you witch and kill you.
5. Jesus wasn't the one talking against the philosophers. Later Christian leaders started talking against them, when new testament was written.
I have to say that you are really nice to talk to because usually when I say to some one what I think about religional problems/ethics they start attacking me and discussion ends.

Yep. That is quite interesting for your first point. Times have changed indeed... And yes, women have just as equal a role as men. It depends on what book of the Bible you read to find literal or metaphorical text... writing styles are different from book to book, it's true.
Yes, that's true isn't it? I guess slaveholding was common back then, but it seems that it tells slave owners to treat their servants with care.
That is quite an interesting thing about the books of Moses. It's where the laws of Israel were laid down, however, the law is only what makes us aware of sin's nature. But as Hebrews 10:1 says, the law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming.
Well, I still say that there's not a solid proof about biological homosexuality. We don't know yet that this is true for sure. But like I said earlier we all have a sinful nature by birth; this wouldn't be any different. Like alcohol addicts who inherited the mother or father's habits by genetics, I think this wouldn't be any different. After all, in the book of Deuteronomy, it says that sin will be passed down to the third and fourth generations. Whether the writers knew the intimate biological facts or not, "all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" (1 Timothy 3:16, NIV), that is, that all scripture is 100% God's words. Jesus himself said that, "Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. 17In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid. 18I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me." (John 8: 14-18)
Okay, I agree with that statement about the philosophers. That was when the agnostics, pagan Christians and stoics began appearing in the early church, after all.
Oh no problem! I strive to be polite and honest; attacks never win discussions. Never. I think a friendly chat just means more to us on either side of the debate.

Sorry that answering took this long. My brother had confirmation party and I had to clean our house from floor to roof. And my Grand father died, so we have been busy with funurel arrangements. Funerals are this weekend.
About homosexuality, if it isn't natural or in our DNA then why can animals also be homo- or bisexual? I read from very reliable sciense magazine that homosexual behavior have been seen with/on(*) over 1500 animal species. For example, scientist had discovered that rams who live on mountains are 50% hetero sexual, 20% bisexual, 20% homosexual and 10% isn't interested in sex.
Animals aren't as aware of the thigs as we are or at least they can't see as far to the future as we can. They are just trying to survive to the next day and trying to get offspings.
So can they make sin? Or is homosexuality accepted between animals but not between humans?
*(-_-' I hate prepositons. I just don't know how to use them)

It's interesting that you said this!
What really seperates us from animals is biological complexity and intelligence, to break it down. After all, God created animals for us to have reign over. Not like killing or anything, but authority you know? Whenver I had heard about animal homosexuality, it was described as "practice for mating between opposite genders" or something like that, especially dolphins. But it is interesting to speculate, animals are just as diverse as us!

ShinaNeko In reply to WarriorofHeaven [2009-07-12 13:49:26 +0000 UTC]
It has been known very long but because the old days homosexuality wasn't accepted, it wasn't wise for scientist to tell that she/he had seen that it is common to animals too. Because no one would then want to give money that he/she could investigate more/other things with a same specie.
They would have lost their jobs.
I understand them, I would have also hidden/explain other ways what I found because I wouldn't want to lose my job.
"practice for mating" it doesn't sound very good explanation because, for example, penguins live with their partner their whole life (like they were maried) and there have been gay penguin couples too, who have lived together their whole life. So "practicing" can't explain that.

I don't know much about the subject, so I can't explain too much. I can say that what separates us human beings from animals is intelligence and biological complexity, and that we have morals that we naturally have and practice.
