Sorry to bother, Ashy, but will you be able to work more on the Glaucus wyverns anytime soon? ;m;

Shirukiba In reply to AngelicDragonPuppy [2013-05-28 03:23:45 +0000 UTC]

I hope so.

It won't take long but I don't tend to have a computer, free time, internet connection and access to Dragon Cave at the same time. I've saved the sketches onto my PC though so that eliminates the need for internet etc.

Ew, limited internet connections don't sound fun ;; well, thank you again for spriting them; I eagerly await your next update!

Just a reminder, I'm always willing to let other spriters take over while I'm busy with stuff.

I give permission on lines and shading and stuff.

I'll keep it in mind, but you're an excellent spriter so I'll likely just wait. If you ever just really can't continue to work on them for whatever reason, though, just say so and I'll look for someone else.

No worries, I thought you were on watch a long time ago but apparently that wasn't the case .

Quite a fan of your artwork, I've been trying to draw realistic cetaceans for a while.

Thank you for the compliment, I'm glad you enjoy it I wish I could give a tip or so on how to draw dolphin realistically, but all there is to it really is practice - a lot of it

Shirukiba In reply to namu-the-orca [2013-05-24 21:26:27 +0000 UTC]

It's not the drawing element that I struggle with anyway, its the painting/colouring. It never looks clean when I do it.

namu-the-orca In reply to Shirukiba [2013-05-25 15:41:30 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that's difficult indeed. I've been struggling with it for a very long time. The only tip I could give you is: never touch the dodge or burn tool and always blend colours (in the beginning) using a basic round brush, preferably not too soft with medium opacity and stroke

Shirukiba In reply to namu-the-orca [2013-05-24 21:25:20 +0000 UTC]

Haha, true. I'm not helping myself by not using references as often as I should.

I'm composing a book at the moment, so I was kind of scanning dA for anything that may help me in terms of tutorials etc. That's how I found you again

namu-the-orca In reply to Shirukiba [2013-05-25 15:42:03 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I often slack off on them too when doodling, though for drawings I always gather as many as possible. Oh that sounds interesting! What kind of book are you composing?

Shirukiba In reply to namu-the-orca [2013-05-26 16:34:27 +0000 UTC]

If I may ask, what brushes do you use for shading?

I've always stuck with the default, but I feel like there are better out there.

namu-the-orca In reply to Shirukiba [2013-05-26 16:37:24 +0000 UTC]

I use photoshop's 'Oil medium wet flow' a lot lately, but also two paint brushes from a set I downloaded from dA, I'm not certain which one it is exactly. I'd suggest searching for 'paint brushes photoshop' or something here on dA and try out which ones you like best. I usually only end up using one or two brushes from a whole set haha

Shirukiba In reply to namu-the-orca [2013-05-25 16:55:41 +0000 UTC]

It will include 30 species of dolphins, porpoises and the beluga and narwhal. I suppose I should stalk your gallery to see if I can improve my illustrations at all

namu-the-orca In reply to Shirukiba [2013-05-25 17:19:53 +0000 UTC]

Oh awesome! Is it like a guide (for a certain geographical area) or simply a book about whales, or more of a kids book or..?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Shirukiba In reply to namu-the-orca [2013-05-25 16:52:06 +0000 UTC]

Current plan was doing a visual guide on Pacific Ocean dolphins. I have yet to find any book that shows anything other than side poses, so I'm aiming to cover dorsal, ventral, lateral and other poses in it.

And maybe I'll gain something from it also, who knows.

namu-the-orca In reply to Shirukiba [2013-05-25 17:21:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh whoops, forget my other question then - didn't expect there to be two replies Actually, the guide 'Whales, dolphins and seals' illustrated by Brett Jarrett shows dorsal views of all its species (though no lateral views) You can see all the illustrations on his website, here: [link]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shirukiba In reply to namu-the-orca [2013-05-25 19:11:53 +0000 UTC]

Lateral is the side view .

He doesn't have ventral views though. He has included juveniles, which is an interesting prospect not covered by many guides.

I got fed up drawing whales (and there are far too many beaked whales) so I'm keeping it at the smaller cetaceans.

namu-the-orca In reply to Shirukiba [2013-05-25 19:20:40 +0000 UTC]

Whoops, sorry, my bad. Meant the ventral views. Yeah, they were very thorough (also including some variations in colouration) though haven't covered everything, in my opinion, and also missed the jizz of a few species completely. Nonetheless it's my little whale bible

I have not. I haven't heard of it.

Shirukiba In reply to FireMaster13 [2013-03-06 05:11:14 +0000 UTC]

Its a site like Dragon Cave but more open and carefree. It has been around for 3 years now and they are looking for new dragons. There are a few DC spriters who have move their requests onto this site, and obviously its more likely to be accepted on there (there are only 4 dragon requests completed right now).

You should take a look at it if you haven't, its not as hard-core as DC.

FireMaster13 In reply to Shirukiba [2013-03-06 05:12:56 +0000 UTC]

I perused through it and it does look more carefree, which is nice. I'll probably look into it. I've been trying more sprites lately, though on the 100x100 scale still.

Shirukiba In reply to FireMaster13 [2013-03-06 06:31:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, nothing dies on there. Eggs hatch at 40 clicks to account for lower users. You can buy food to give them clicks too which really helps. Its one of the sites that lets you progress as much as you want, unlike DC where you can catch eggs but have to wait 2 days to do anything.

FireMaster13 In reply to Shirukiba [2013-03-06 19:25:10 +0000 UTC]

It sounds like it'd be fun, I'll check into it. I'll see how the request process works and see if my sprites are good enough.

Could always bring the Paradise Dragon on there; TJ will probably find it too bird like.

There's an idea. You convinced me to register and I'm currently getting my bearings around the site. I have a dragon idea being roughed out and I'll see how it ends up.

Shirukiba In reply to FireMaster13 [2013-02-11 04:05:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks <3.

You have any other dragons after this one?

By the way you should update the first post with the sprites so everyone can see them without searching through the pages.

Can I try working on that furnace adult?

What if it was orange when it hatched (like magma/lava is) and it gradually cools into grey as an adult?

FireMaster13 In reply to Shirukiba [2013-02-11 04:48:46 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure about others for now. I'm surprised I haven't seen any, to my knowledge, hydra styled dragons.

I just updated, too. I realized the same thing after I caught myself going through the pages for them.

There is a 7-headed dragon, but all those heads are making it crazy difficult.

There was a dark 2-headed as well and 2-headed eastern.
