Love your photos!!! I was looking through the forums on Cosplay.com, saw your sig, and thought I'd ask some questions if that's okay! So far, I've only been to a convention once (A-Kon this past year) and now I'm trying to start on my very first cosplay for A-Kon 23! Also, because I guess I'm just a masochist like that lol, I want to try my hand at cosplay photography. Any tips or words of wisdom? Anything from the standpoint of "when taking pics do/don't do this..." or "when getting pics taken of you do/don't do this..."

first off, Thank you so much, im glad you like my work
as for trying out Cosplay photography I too started at A-Kon (except last year [2010]), took it slow getting comfortable with things as I went along, sticking to close friends that invited me out, as it was my VERY FIRST CON at all. . . I thought Massochism would be a big word when I started getting out on my own, but its really not all that bad, Cosplayers for the most part see a professionally dressed plain clothes photographer (I try to be presentable, slacks of some sort, and full button-up [untucked] or Polo shirt) with an SLR (or two... or 3 once at A-kon this year 
tips wise I dont have much as I play it by ear, as it were. . . but after a while behind the camera you start to understand what angles work best with what type poses, what sort of lens to use to emphasize something, that sort of thing. . . IN GENERAL:
- if I have time to setup a shot Ill get on one knee and shoot from there, possibly off-center in relation to their facing (back to angles and different poses), avoiding the standard shoot you standing up straight on look that most Con shots end up being
- MAKE SURE THE COSPLAYER/MODEL IS COMFORTABLE... an uneasy, uncomfortable, annoyed, or whatever Cosplayer doesnt make a good picture... believe me, it shows... on private shoots I try to keep talking to them, laughing, tossing in a funny line here and there, anything to help keep them happy
AS FOR WHAT TO DO IN FRONT OF CAMERA, speaking from my personal opinion, DO NOT look at me, interact with something or another person, its just an awkward picture when theyre staring straight down my lens. . . AND most importantly, KNOW the character, LOVE the character, BE the character, back to the whole comfort thing, if you love your character and get into it it shows versus somebody cosplaying something because its popular, or whatever, its the subtle things that matter
