I'm trying to decide whether it's worth getting a really great deal on a lens that's pretty awesome but not perfect, or whether I should hold my money for something perfect......that I'm not sure actually exists..
We were actually talking last night about my ideal lens, if cost were not involved. Is there any zoom at f-stop 2.8 or lower in a range around 28-115mm? From the research I've done I can't find anything, even L series. Am I speaking crazy talk?

closest one i believe would be the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM it's not 2.8 but it has image stabilization to make up for it along with wonderful reviews in sharpness and contrast. It's about $800 if you're lucky.

problem is since I do a lot of human subjects I want the short DOF and good lowlight performance in all ranges..
