You've seen them live? ...You... person. I have gone to very few concerts myself, and to concerts for none of my favorite bands. NONE of them. All of my concert joys are courtesy of my friend, who is Hoobastank obsessed. Ew.
So basically my best concert-going experience is The Strokes because... at least I have their CD. X___x Alas. I never seem to get news of a concert until it's sold out, and none of my friends want to accompany me anyway because they like... other things. Le sigh.
But they are great. Really original and whatnot, and they make no real sense. Which only makes it better.

I saw The Mars Volta at a music Festival earlier this year, it was complete chance that I walked past the stage they were playing at. It was amazing, and Iβd never even heard of them before! Hee. I've hardly been to any concerts either, actually, none before this year, now I've realised everything I've been missing out on, so arrrr. Are you an At the Drive in Fan at all?
Incidentally I saw the Strokes at the BDO also, they were pissed at parrots, heh.

Yes, sweet, sweet destiny- walking past true artists onstage. I actually got into their music myself about... half a year or so ago when my mother went to buy me some CD or other at Media Play and somehow an employee there convinced her to buy me a Mars Volta CD. He was sure I'd like it. I looked at the cover when I got it and had a tantrum- it was the wrong CD-but then opened it up and listened. Oh sweet, heavenly music. Son et Lumiere... my first taste. Good stuff. And I bought the other CD I originally wanted later and it wasn't half as good. Go figure.
I actually don't have any of their CDs other than De-Loused in the Comatorium. Is their older stuff worth buying? I find sometimes that bands (such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) become magical on a new CD, but then find their old music dreadfully disappointing.
Actually, I'm not very knowledgeable about At the Drive-In. I've heard of them; the name is familiar to me, but it doesn't really hold any signifigance. Are they similar to The Mars Volta at all? I will have to investigate.
And as to the new image thingy- Yay. I like compliments. Keep it up.

Ooh, thatβs a good story! That happened to me sorta with this really bizarre Japanese bandβs EP that I have now lost except it was sorta in the bargain bin and I thought it was something else but it was super good. Dammit.
The only thing released by The Mars Volta besides Deloused is the EP Tremulant, which while recognizable as the MV approach, focuses more on free-jazz entropy and jamming. Extremely brilliant and wonderful. I canβt wait for them to release new material, not too far from the horizon too. Yay!
I ADORE how Son et Lumiere bleeds into Inertiatic esp, Iβve always counted them as the same song for that reason I think. Am in love with everything, hehe.
At the Drive Inβ¦ is a little more conventional, a little less experimental instrument wise than MV, but itβs only always been Cedric and Omar with the bling, so meh. Amazing lyrics are still present, but you can definitely tell how Cedricβs voice (especially) and Omarβs guitar skills have developed since. (Am I ranting? I think Iβm ranting.
Ok. I think Iβll lay off my Cedric Omar centric rants. I get. A little obsessed. Heh. And itβs good to experiment! With paint, with everything. Hope you have a good on your holidays too. Oh gosh, look how much I ranted. :\ Bad me.
