JOJ is a wonder. So very Valjean-ish. My other favourite is René van Kooten.

JOJ really is! He just pins that kind of inherent sweetness to the character that often goes neglected. But the fact that Valjean is so sweet is why he's my favourite character, so it shouldn't be ignored!
I haven't seen anything of René van Kooten in the role. Was he ever in any English-language productions?

I'm almost obsessed with the Ring.
My faves are: Hagen (oh... Salminen, the God), Wotan, Mime (when well acted), and we twins.
I'll see Parsifal next year, and maybe I'll try to sneak in to Götter in the pause. I want to hear Salminen again... but I don't know if I'll have time for a whole Ring, so I didn't get the tickets yet.
