Oooh, lots of stuff. I'm doing molecular biology research in Grinnell -- making earth-shattering discoveries about Rubisco activase and photosynthesis heat stress acclimation and such. Lots of fun. Also I've been doing some knitting, and some very minor art (designing a fancy label for Cory's homebrewed cider and mead). So it's been a nice chill summer. On the downside, Iowa is flat and disgustingly humid, and I miss New England. 4 more weeks until I go home...
How's life on your end of the stick/continent/plane of reality?

Thanks for checking out our galleries, mine and Lindsey's (Frosted Embers). As you noted on her page, our photos are indeed similar. That similarity actually goes deeper than it might appear. They were taken during the same sessions with just about the same make of camera, Canon powershot A620 or A630, and we were all taught by the same teachers.
I'm sorry that you've lost faith in DeviantArt, but I can't say you're wrong.
So Keep on and thanks again.

Hrm. Not a problem. I always check out art sites that are in applications for babyloniantowers.com.
I really enjoyed the photography, and checked her references (came to you). Figured you guys were in the same town/class/area, (not very much logic to come to that conclusion...), but it was interestin' to see the sessions and is cool to know there are some good teachers. Very nice sight.

I'm been busy designing the Dance Concert this year. I designed two dances and designed/programmed all the moving light functions for the show. It was a party. It was also art... but very hard to catch on camera when you're running board.
I'll see if I can get some good shots in the next week or so or over break.
How've you been?

That's why it's impossible to escape; creating a positive attitude is the best trap.

At this point, it doesn't matter, they may have caught me, but I am now in a position to view it as a good turn of events.
Kindof like Adam and Eve after the fall. Originally it sucked, they were naked, in the land of Nod, and God was pissed at them, but then they started being ingenious and inventing DOTA and french wine and the Kama Sutra and pretty soon they were thinking "Hey, this knowledge thing isn't that bad after all!"

Today was acapella night, and one of the groups performed a really good rendition of "Where the streets have no name," and I thought of you. Just thought you should know.
Hope school's going well. Exam week = satan on wheels.

It's really ironic somehow that you have exam week during Peideia. I took three classes today, in board gaming, fire-spinning, and irish dance.
Power to that A Capella group, You should look up the folk sister duet called 'the nields.' they have such excellent lyrics as "I sold mu computer for a used acoustic guitar,"
Stay strong, one week and yet another hurdle falls away.

Those classes sound considerably funner than what I've had to endure. You said that Henry taught one--what did he teach?
I lived through math and history today!!! (Math exam was called "Intensely Gleeful Fun Time" and contained a problem in which, to explain the Mean Value Theorem, your reasoning had to include the fact that Mr. Sando was between 0 and 96 years old.) Just one more Milton exam left! And after that, scifi con and Orson Scott Card...
I've never heard of the Nields, but from what I've gathered from wikipedia, they remind me of the Indigo Girls, which is a good sign.

hey Gray, i have a somewhat important question:
where did you go to get duplicates of your slides for your college portfolio last year?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
Silent-Harlequin In reply to flamingfish [2007-12-20 06:34:07 +0000 UTC]
I think it was called "Colortech" a place in Boston. It was somewhere that Mr. Chase recommended. THe did them in about a week, maybe a bit less.
Actually my parents did them for me, I was off to Ecuador.
Did you do the same as I did and leave the to the last moment?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
flamingfish In reply to Silent-Harlequin [2007-12-20 18:47:43 +0000 UTC]
........ maybe.................
Come to think of it, Mr. Chase told me of Colortech, but I couldn't recall the name of the place. So my dad went through this whole adventure of trying to find a place that does slides--all he found was some place in Pennsylvania. And then I remembered that asking you might be helpful. Thanks.
I may have asked this already, but Zach wanted to know is there any chance we could all borrow your house for the night of the 30th? His parents say they can't host the overnight part of it, so we're asking around to see if we can make it work...

(No space left on the other thread, so continuing here)
Hippie artist cousins sounds like a fun time. I spent all week at home with grandparents... but the food was good.
As for art school, I considered it for a while, but decided against it because I want to major in biology or some other science. Minoring in art would be nice though, or just taking random art classes if they're not too aggravating.
Did you get Zach's email?

That was 2 days and 18 hours ago. life is good. Today is Halloween which is imaginably crazy at Reed.
Zombies (upperclassmen) attacked my Hum 110 lecture this morning.

flamingfish In reply to Silent-Harlequin [2007-11-01 01:57:36 +0000 UTC]
We were both online 2 hours and 18 minutes before 4 hours and 33 minutes ago.
There seems to be a disproportionately large amount of zombies at Reed in general. As you surely remember, Halloween here is not as interesting as it could be. The most exciting thing about life is the 96 I got on a math test (which was actually pretty exciting).
Also, it is 9:44 here, meaning it is 6:44 there, meaning you are probably somewhere between Portland and Nightwish.

About that...I found a 13 dollar ticket to Nightwish tonight (Nov. 1st) in Portland, so I am going than with some other reedies. I also printed tickets to Tori Amos today, she's performng here on Dec. 4th. maybe I told you that.

Cool. What did you do with the other tickets? And I think you did tell me about Tori Amos, or maybe I found out on my own from ticketmaster. I'm seeing Ani difranco in Boston in 8 days...

Nightwish was awesome, I stood about 12 feet from the band nd got guitar picks thrown at me (one of which I caught) and had a ringing in my left ear for the next two days due to also being 12 feet from a huge bank of speakers.
