Kairth warrior is awesome! I hope you get it repaired . I do tons of rework. Seventy percent of my time spent. Your talent is obvious. Working on a Spartan warrior right this moment and redoing a shield that crumbled! See!!!!!!!

Thank you! I have been looking through yours as well and its really awesome - what do you use for eyes on your sculpts? or do you PS those in afterwards?

I use metal beads or ball bearings of various sizes, and after painting them I slather them with varnish (clear nail polish is cheap and works great) Some people use taxidermy eyes but they're a bit pricey.
I found this eye-making tutorial awhile ago, haven't tried it out yet but it looks promising. [link]

When I did my Fine Arts Degree (back in 1997 lol) we didn't know anything about this sculptey stuff - what is it? We just had clay and all the slaving to get the clay fired or moulded into something else, quite restrictive...Is this sculptey stuff like self drying?

SilverFalconer In reply to phoenixbay [2009-12-13 23:19:49 +0000 UTC]
no, its a low temp baking polymer clay. It comes in varieties of firmness and plasticity. All of the grey sculptures are a mixture of regular beige super sculpey and white and black sculpey III to make it grey...but there is super sculpey firm that is my next material to play with ^_^ It is brittle and requires armatures but is super responsive to detail and wont dry out if kept covered/sealed and cool prior to baking

Thanks, that is very interesting! I am going to find some of this sculpey stuff, and do some work, I really miss sculpture, as I tattoo and draw designs most everyday. It will be like going on vacation to do some clay work!!!
Good look with the new stuff, anything that can be brittle will be a challenge, and my god, anything that requires armatures will also lead to a lot of planning and work!!
Long live nimble fingers!!

yeah, its a real trial and error process, but nothing that can't be fixed with a little extra clay and a heat gun I am actually going to have to do a lot of repair with my works as they all cracked in transport to my critique. I now know to make armatures that don't give at all
