Hey there,
I'm not sure if you're around anymore but if you are I would love to hear your thoughts on my latest Sailor V drawing.
Thanks!

Well, all those months (or years) of linking to here finally paid off! Now to get around to making that Wordpress blog for more "traditional" reviews that I keep saying to Z I'll make but never get around to doing.
Well, if you've enjoyed my rant on "low standards" a couple of days back on Z's site, let alone the other "can't help but insert two cents, and my (lack of) ability to summarize (and use less parenthesis digressions) isn't worth a damn, and..." comments, I hope you'll like my essay of a reply I recently typed out.

I think I defended you a couple of times on GG's blog dealing with Gundam Epyon MG's "hunters".
Honestly, they're* going to end up ruining the experience for everyone (*namely russotomask) with their eschewed hateful perspective.
Anyway, I always enjoy a good rant so long as it's educated and gauges both sides well while providing good points to route unnecessary flaming.

And it's not like I've got absolutely zero problems with this Epyon myself (I've noticed the way the chin "bleeds" into the face-guard like Okawara's Sandrock and Zero does), but they're relatively minor problems of an overall streamlined and appealing design.
I'll just "summarize" (if you can call it that) my thoughts about all of it this way: I remember looking at and loving Katoki's "Early Type" GW designs a decade ago, wishing models or figures of them were available. More recently, I also pondered what a true Katoki Epyon design would look like. Both dreams are coming true, finally. Why should they be ruined?

BTW, I heard (read) you wanted to start a blog. You should check mine out (obvious plug) sometime!

I actually could use someone like you who goes into detail for criticism. Can't better myself if I don't know what's wrong, right?
Also, let me know when you decide to start yours! Blogger or not, I gladly put you on my blog roll!

Well, I might've been a few days too late, but I did that just recently... And screwed it up. *sigh* I can only see the second-half of my comments on your 1/144 DSH review, and if you can see my three attempts on posting the first part, then go ahead and read Attempt #1 and ignore the other two. If not, then I'm sorry; I just gave up on hacking and posting it over and over again. I hope you can enjoy what's there.
If you can't read my first part on that page, here's the bottom line on your review style: Pretty traditional for Gunpla-reviewing, which works very well. It's how I'll likely approach my reviews in a blog (with a couple of traits picked up from my reviews here).

I, unfortunately, have no patience with taking pictures of the assembly process, because it interrupts my work flow and I could mess something up.
I'm still trying to find an overall format or template that's just right for me. I love Z's layout, but I can't get the kind of dramatic effect Z's photos bring, quality wise. Ngee Khiong's format is far too spread out for my tastes, though I do follow him.
So far, it's just me typing with whatever photos I had been able to take at the time.
Anyway, I'm planning a huge post for one of my kits within the next week. It's looking to be 3 parts long, but with it's separable components, I think the flow will work for it.
I'll check my emails and see if they'll let me see your other comments!

Look up a blog entitled "Random Stuff from the East". It's in Z's blogroll, and a review of the RD Turn A Gundam pushed me towards getting the figure. To be honest, I always leaned toward it (and a limited version of), but it was a factor. A clear positive of that person's reviews was summarizing positives and negatives before concluding. I myself haven't done it before, though, even if it is a good idea. I *might*, but I'd have to get to actually setting up a review in blog-format first before thinking about it.
A big inspiration of mine in the photo department is Dalong. Very formulaic, and how he approaches looking at a model's articulation is very good. With my Kapool review, I went on a similar approach and took it further with arrows from Paint Shop Pro describing where the articulation is and how it functions. It helps sell the point briefly, which is good when considering human impatience, DA limits, and my lack of knowledge of applying DA-specific code (for this, that, and the other stuff in descriptions/comments).

I almost forgot about this... Anyway, I've actually seen the designs not long after you submitted them, and obviously I liked it; I know some automatically put things into favorites lists for no reason, but I'm not one of them.
While I and everyone else knows vaguely about your post-EW story and ideas, I can't honestly say if it's fitting for it or any post-EW timeline in general, but I like the ideas regarding improvements from vanilla Epyon, and in some cases aesthetically, it looks like it can likely be a true successor. I have some more thoughts, but as someone who blabbers along (as I seem to have already), I'll shoot them by you elsewhere (either on MT or notes here on DA).

Usually, I don't reply a whole lot (as you can see below, with an exception or two), but thanks. I'm feeling a little more motivated on building the Kapool and seeing what I missed in-between (I think I have a couple of other built Gunpla I have yet to upload photos of).

Well, I can't say it was bad, but with a winged mobile suit design like that (and I tend to like MSs with wings, though not all of them), the pose of it in that picture just didn't seem to fit.
I understand why you drew it the way it is (in relation to your story), but it wasn't the most shining depiction of your design of a new Wing Gundam. I'd chalk that up to the one where it's ready to fire it's buster rifle, or when drawing out its falcon sword. I guess I like MSs like that in the air and with its wings spread out. Maybe I should take out my GFF again and try and take a picture of it in a similar pose... *shrug*

Ah, well I guess I can explain that because this is a stance that isn't typically seen in Gundam. It's a martial arts stance that displays meditation or focus. I suppose that's particular to my taste and particular my story, so I understand why you might not like it.

Well, I guess to symbolize of the obtaining of enlightenment through battle (which I take would be an important element in your story), it works well. (And while I'm not much of a fanfiction reader, I thought the four chapters out so far was enjoyable to read.) And it's not a horrible drawing, but it seems better suited for an MS design that isn't obviously built for aerial combat (when in an atmosphere). To name another design or two of yours, I believe the Grand Leo or Zulong Gundam better fits that. Not that an MS design with wings on a backpack couldn't possibly pretty much pull out more complex melee moves itself...
As I'm not much of an expert on anything, though, I wouldn't lend much credibility in my two cents there beyond just explaining my reasons of not going for the full straight (in terms of favoriting). And given your description of your MS design, it's pretty much a superweapon of its own just short of colony-busting and feeding info and what to do into the pilot, so maybe it's best suited anyhow... *shrug*

*scratches head* You've read FOUR chapters of 'The Sword'?? I guess you must have found it on MechaTalk or something, 'cause they're not posted anywhere else yet.
Unfortunately, I was forced into a bit of a corner when designing upgrades for GW mobile suits. You can only improve performance, and the Gundams were already monsters in the original series, so my story is just going to look outright ridiculous, haha. Hopefully I can keep it impressive/entertaining in the least. ...And I'll admit that I have a weird tendency to make something as powerful as possible. I blame Armored Core for that.
You're a bit right about the wings though. One bad thing about them is you'll never be able to do a "back parry" with a saber without slicing your own MS apart. (Although SEED tends to completely ignore this....) *sigh*
Anyway, thanks for talking with me. It's been a rather good conversation.

*wave* Not a problem. Yeah, I caught the rest of the posted story over at the MT forums as I tend to lurk around over there. I have an account that I only posted once or twice with, but I've pretty much gone back to lurking.
As far as the GW Gundams being monsters, I doubt there's much of a disagreement just short of comparing it to Super Robots or other spacecraft in sci-fi. But even in Gundam (beyond Wing), there are more powerful MSs.
