I'm affraid, at least for the mods for Alice-madness returns, there is no way around texmod (Alice 1 and the RE5-mods are done differently and don't need it).
what problem occurs with texmod?

Hm, not too sure. The dress that directly replaces the stock dress she wears will work, but I don't have the option to choose any others. Is that because Texmod only activates one at a time, or can you cycle through dresses?

you can only use one skin for the same dress at a time. but you can i.e. use a skin for the classic dress at the same time with one for the steam dress - this way, there is no limitation. texmod will only get confused by multiple skins active for the same dress.
also cycling through the dresses is only available after beating the game, I think. before that the game will pick the dress for the chapter played (just in case you didn't beat the game yet).
I hope I could somehow be a help with this.
