Here is a rough idea of where I want Spike and the Band to go:

Spike lives with and takes care of his mom who is a former hooker. She never took drugs or booze but was a child of the streets and never learned how to do anything else. His mom, named Summer, has early signs of dementia.  His mother taught him to hate bullies and bad cops.   Spike loves his mom like no other kid and looks after her with great care and determination.  He is very aware of the sacrifice that she made for him.  The pregnancy was an accident and Summer had no idea who the father was.

Spike learned and mastered many unusual skills as a kid.  Music, Martial Arts, Street Fighting, Gunsmith Skills, First Aid, Mechanics, and Scooter Riding.

All these skills were learned from homeless, fringe people in his neighborhood who by bad luck and bad choices were never in a position to truly utilize their own skill but took a liking to Spike and his unusual ability to learn and mimic that they lived in a vicarious way through him and his deeds in the neighborhood and city.  These same people purely by example taught Spike the dangers of drugs and alcohol, which Spike never spoke against but openly did not engage in.

Spike is 21 years old.  He rides a sooped up scooter that is environmentally friendly. The machine now runs on fuel Spike makes from grease collected at nearby Chinese restaurants.   Spike received the scooter as a thank you from a local family who had lost their own son in a war in the Middle East.  Spike and his band the ‘Silver Hammers’ did a gig to raise money for the family who were very poor and had relied on their sons’ income from the Marines. The parents who were grateful only had the boys’ old scooter that did not run and was in pieces to give as a thanks, and Spike accepted with glee.  Using his special skills he reworked the motor to run on grease and gained so much power and speed from his mechanical tweaking that the bike plays a big part in his ‘arsenal against injustice’.

Spike is a singer in a band – rockin ‘hard country’ tinged with blues.  They write originals and play arrangements of covers.   They play local dives and bars. The gigs lead to ‘situations’ that necessitate Spike, Max and often the band members to intervene in. Spike and his band front as a band but really fight bully-isim, local injustice, political injustice, crooked cops, drug dealers, etc.

In a sideline to Spikes hero antics, as the story progresses, the band earn a following that gets larger and larger.  Spike and the Silver Hammers are pursued by several music labels while trying to decide if they should just use the Internet.

His dog ‘Max’ is a former professional pit-fighting dog with huge bulging muscles Now that he is loved and in a true home much he seems to smile. Spike rescued Max from a back yard where he found Max tied to a tree left to suffer after his owner placed a large bet and lost in a dog fighting ring.  Max’s owner made a bet that Max could kill his opponent in less than 5 seconds. It was a bad bet. Max hated to fight.  A big lover at heart he dreamed and fantasized about growing up in a loving family with lots of trees, open space and kids to romp with.  As fate would have it when tossed into a small circle of wooden fence faced with a choice to fight or die he chose life.  This was a source of great pain for Max to cause so much suffering and death.  He knew no other way to survive.  Spike tried to train Max to ride on the back of the scooter but the dog was not at ease back there.   One day the dog on his own found an old skate board and much to everyone’s surprise and delight could ride the thing like the wind.  He could almost keep up with Spike on the scooter and when high speed was needed he simply used his massive jaw pressure to hang on to a special peg on the scooter.
