You can see what happened to them in post-SGW Archie. Same rules are dictated to IDW, so it won't be any better.

Well, yep. 
I also sometimes find cool design ideas which won't work on Elisa. Like how you used highly saturated cyan on Sapphire (which is why she instantly made it to my favs list). Which is a good idea imo as it makes a good contrast to the rest of her colors and is something I've almost never seen to work that nicely. Which, as I said, won't work on Elisa as she's already pretty blue and cyan herself. As for colors that contrast with blue and cyan, like green, yellow and red/pink - well, I'm not really sure that these will work as nicely. Though I did try lemon yellow on her eons ago and it seemed to somewhat work.

No exactly, like I said I usually never thank people for faves because...it's like second nature to fave things here, but I just thought it was really striking you only faved pictures with female characters in it and got curious.
I always suggest if you try to design a character don't look at other people their characters too much, you might end up "stealing" something that's almost like a trademark for that character you based it of and well...shit goes down, I've seen some things happen.
If I were you I would just find a different way, try out some silly doodles, just draw some lines on the base of the character on SAI and see if you can make something out of it ^^ that's what I do often. Not meant mean at all, just trying to help you out a little >u<

Welp, another reason to that could be the fact that after exposure to MLP I starter to favor female characters probably more than I should be. I'm not a fan of MLP anymore, but the preference still stays. Pretty much explains why my main char is a girly girl.
(originally the role of my main char has been taken by a certain hedgehog guy, but I don't really feel like using him at this moment, not to mention that he's screaming out for a redesign (partially because I migrated some of his design onto Elisa and I don't want them to resemble each other), which is actually happening)
Gotta say that I never "steal" designs. Or, at least, not "outright" "steal" them. I still end up changing plenty of details during the "adaptation" process, so they end up looking pretty original. Not to mention that I've got so many different designs in my favs, if I'm ever to adapt some details from them, they'd probably blend together to the point of being completely original or beyond recognition. The basic design of Elisa is probably older than she is herself as a character and was made from the ground up by me with pretty much zero outside influence, and I never changed it. There was one moment though when I decided to outright copy some little design bits, but for a different reason: like Elisa, the character in question is a Mobian red deer, and I wasn't fond of how different they look like (yeah, I know, originality and such, but I don't like it when characters of same species from the same universe look like they are not of same species - that, like, contradicts the common sense to me). So when I commissioned her I asked her to slightly redesign her to look the way she'd do a design of a red deer. As far as I know, she's cool with that. Needless to say that I consider her a co-author of Elisa since then, even though her contribution has been pretty small. x)
(though there's one design that I'm actually looking forward to use, which is a (quite brilliant) design of this character ; usually I'd never ever do such a thing, but as her author switched Persephone's design to a nearly completely different one, which means that the version in question is not going to be used anymore (which is why I went out with the whole asking deal, as I liked that design a bit too much to just see it go), I decided to contact the author to try to ask if I could make a similar outfit for Elisa, just for the sake of keeping at least a tiny bit of that design alive; the problem arose when I found out that the author left dA this summer; I did try to contact her via YouTube (as I don't use neither Twitter nor Tumblr, as I prefer to stay away from both... particularly from Tumblr...), but she's yet to reply, and I'm not sure if she received it at all, as I have no idea of how YouTube's private messaging works; if she won't reply or refuses, I'll probably either drastically rework that outfit to the point of being barely recognizable or won't use it at all, and both of these scenarios are fine by me - in no way in hell I'm stooping down to outright theft)
The "different way" you've suggested works best at early stages of character's development, and kinda works best with good drawing skills. Meanwhile, Elisa is at late stages of development and my drawing skills suck (mostly due to drawing one or two pieces per year or two). I did try to sort of experiment with the look of Elisa's body and the result were rather disappointing to me. Looks rather too generic to my liking.
p.s.: there has also been a funny story involving SAI... I'm a hardcore fan of Photoshop due to using it for as long as I used my first laptop (and that's around 8 years so far), and when I've got my graphics tablet, my best friend suggested me to switch to SAI due to SAI having built-in stabilizers (Photoshop only has third-party ones and they also cost extra shekels). At first I didn't touch SAI because I was too lazy to, but he kept persisting that I should at least just try it for the sake of comparison. Then I snapped and said something along the lines "go fxx k yourself, breh, I'm not touching SAI because meh and that's it". As I've just got a tablet PC with the built-in digitizer, I'll probably give my graphics tablet to him so he can try SAI out and/or do the comparison by himself, if he so desires it.

I'm actually a really good friend of Zodiac, we used to be like Bffs. I'm not sure if she's the type to just give away a design, especially thinking about the fact she worked hard on it. I'd not be too happy with it either, I'm a fan of own creativity, buying or begging for someone else's design is a total no go to me, sorry.
