# About me
I paint ideas and experiences that are best expressed visually or experienced for oneself. There is an intention driving these art pieces to aid in the social, cultural and transcendental understanding of our species. It is a combination of what interests me, what I'm most talented at, and what I feel I can contribute most to society: visual philosophy.
In my opinion, I think we tend not to argue with pictures and feel less guarded about them as opposed to debate or direct conversation. So therefore is serves as an indirect, unconscious seeding into the viewer and contributes to their personal understanding of the natural of their reality.

Inspiration and ideas come easy there, recalling it and accurately depicting it does not! ha. Thanks man. Enjoy the journey, tell others.

It's difficult to admit to yourself that an art piece probably isn't going to come out the way you want it to and that you need to remind yourself that it's something learned over time and effort. I got one on the go right now that I had high hopes for but I'm feeling a bit discouraged but I won't give up. Just take a break and come back and put in the effort. All the stuff they teach you in art class that you don't really care about or remember applies. I can't say enough about perspective - You can do the same art piece in the same quality but from a different angle and suddenly it has more meaning and seems more effective and memorable. Β Thankfully paint is forgiving in the sense you can always paint over and change something. Β It's difficult finding the time to really complete a detailed art piece if that's what yer going for. These days I put more emphasis on planning. I always seem to kinda let an art piece develop on the go but it's also a lot more time consuming.
It's actually even more gratifying I find to give it more planning and effort and all around a full mental emotional excercise. You give it the whole of what you got.
I don't know if you play music but I realized after doing art for some years and coming back to music and applying the same art principles my music really took off in structure.
So yeah man, just keep at it and give it all who you are and keep at it and you'll get results you're more and more happy with for sure. I'm still learning so much. I never took a real painting class and feel I coulda really benefited from that!

dude thanks! i appreciate the input and the advice! ill keep working on my art and thriving to improve my capabilities. I never actually took serious art classes but ill audit classes every now and then. and ive never really planned any of my works, i always roll with instinct, but if im dabbling in new stuff and concepts, ill try to sketch it out!
and i guess its never too late to freshen up on color patterns and schemes.

eh ma! we havent talked for awhile. What r u doing these days? Im prolly moving out of this jobless bullshit province of new brunswick next year and going to Calgary where Russian Jeff is right now, just to have a fukin beer..lol

SteveGriffith In reply to Jadedxxx [2013-09-25 02:35:10 +0000 UTC]
I met russian jeff's clone or brother.Β His name is Vlad and he talks the same except he works just a tiny bit harder, not by much.
I'm still cleaning windows, there's money in chair work even if you bust your balls for a little extra some days. I've tried it all, at the end of the day, or the month rather, that 200 bucks goes a long long way. Or more reastically 500 bucks even on a bad month.Β I was doing chair work for my buddy's uncle who is an awesome awesome guy but he can't provide consistent work. Believe it or not, cancore's still probably the best to do chair work for.
Other than that I'm pretty much 100% focused on music. I got a band with a great singer and our drummer owns like 30 000 bucks in gear. We're being patient and we also need a bassist but we're gonna hit the music scene hard when we're ready.
I got my own place in the beaches and it's fucking great.Β I don't do any art these days, all music, if I even have free time.

wow, im glad to know everything is great. As for my situation, I have to say it sucks balls here and im hopefully leaving for calgary this coming spring, but i will not come back to T.O.
I kinda miss the city. Theres nothing but stupid hicks here with hick attitudes that I cant handle. Ive become a recluse in art...lol.

Thanks man. . It's coming along, very slow. But I do have one in the works, it's about choices so i think i'm waiting to understand the theme so I can paint it.

nightserpent In reply to SteveGriffith [2013-04-28 21:41:00 +0000 UTC]
Cool, I look forward to it. Does this imply that you started painting it and have paused at a junction of sorts, or is it earlier in a sketching/conceptualizing stage? I'm curious about your process.
π: 0 β©: 1
SteveGriffith In reply to nightserpent [2013-04-29 01:22:00 +0000 UTC]
I plan things a lot or a little depending on the theme. I like sort of going with the flow and letting it take its own shape even if it goes away from the original theme. I like to sort of paint intuitively. This current one I just started making some first layers because it's simple and abstract and follows a process I found with the last one so i got a lot done very quickly there.
The painting is about massive irreversible type life changing choices and i'm trying to figure out what to paint in the different portals / paths. Literal or conceptual, if hasn't come to me yet. I've also been working on music a lot though so the art takes a hit from that too.

nightserpent In reply to SteveGriffith [2013-04-30 16:30:16 +0000 UTC]
Interesting, thank you! I find when I am intentionally creating a conceptual piece (rather than discovering meaning whilst painting) I have to plan a bit more because it feels like everything must be just so because I am trying to convey a specific meaning. My problem has been that the more I plan a piece the less excited I get about completing the finished product. It's as if I have already solved the puzzle and therefore completing it is more an act of redundancy. I suppose one work around might be shifting the attitude during that second phase to one of meditation- the enjoyment of working with paint and color and seeing it through to a polished level of completion.

Like all things in life man, I try to pull away from expectations while still planning along. Still staring at that new painting of mine, nothing I wanna do with it yet!

I made a seperate account like stevegriffith517 or something like that but i dont use it cuz i gotta make 20 posts before i can make threads and i generally feel there isn't much i feel like saying so yeah. You can talk to me here, but i dont even think i can U2u people on ats as a new member or i woulda said whats up already. I dunno. Search members for a stevegriffith or something, that'll be me. Ahh, damn it. Have you tried resetting your password, the option to do that is on the login page. If you do that, check your junk/spam box as the email might go there. There's no reason why you should have to lose your original account... But yeah, we need to talk privately via U2U. Some important issues to discuss. If you can't get CavemanDD back, lend me the password to 517 and I'll make 20 crappy posts hahahahaha. So good to talk to you again although I wish the circumstances were better.
