Incase you didn't realize it, we've had our accounts for the same amount of time, and not everyone who has an idea like yours makes it "copying". When you make the exact same name as someone, it usually offends them. I hope you took the time to check your new name and make sure that there wasn't already a name exactly like it out there.
Something like this /is/ a big problem. People give their DA ids out at conventions, use them for business purposes, and as a contact for new friends. If they can't find your ID or get directed to the wrong one because of other users, it can become a big problem.

Well, how do you think I feel? I gave out the link to my DA as my contact information at just about every con or meet-up I went to, and most of those people ended up losing touch with me after not being able to find my site. It finally got to the point where I was just fed up with it. Most people take the time to search their name and make sure it /isn't/ in use before creating it, just to avoid these issues.

Wellll dear, next time, tell them that your user name is Strawberry-Lace, not StrawberryLace. If they still get confused after that, then they're really not too bright. There, problem solved.
I don't know anyone who takes time to make sure no one has a similar username to theirs before signing up for a website, especially if it's their first time signing up. You honestly can't expect anyone to do that. How are you even supposed to do that before you understand how to use the website? Do you HONESTLY know anyone (other than yourself) who does that? Quite frankly I think that would be a big waste of time.
And besides, the more angry you get, the happier it makes me because I don't even use that account

The thing is, I'm not the one cursing and lashing out like a child. c: An immature person can't reply calmly in this situation. I genuinely had a problem with someone having the same name, because some people hold originality at high value. I checked many different spellings to make sure that this account name didn't even have something /remotely/ similar to it taken, and refused to make my official account until I knew for sure that it wouldn't be confused for anyone else. As for the dash, DA doesn't allow spaces in names, and it's kind of tacky to mush words together. Deviant IDs are a lot more than just account names. For some people, it's a professional link to a portfolio, and there are many artists who hand the link out on business cards. It's not a small matter for someone to have the same name. It can result in someone losing important contacts, losing business deals, and worse.
So, yes. This /is/ a big deal. I've had to make an entirely new account because of this incident. The day I sent you that comment, someone important to me couldn't find something I made for them because they kept ending up at your page.
