No, I think it brought some light and put some shade on Luke Skywalker. He was the great jedi that everyone praised, but now he failed and ran way from his jedi teachings. It puts a more human face to him. He is capable of making mistakes.

Well we kind of need a bit of death a destruction. Everyone is vulnerable. Personally I think with Force Awakens they should have had the first order win. Let the resistance fail the first few times trying to take them on, so it seems more dire to find Luke and to help Rey. Right now it seems like they are fine without them. They should not have won so easily.
