Hey there old friend !

I'm sorry it's been so long since I replied... Overcome By Events only begins to cover it!  I've now got two kids, am finishing up a Bachelors, and am an instructor at an Army school, so my computer time is usually seriously short if it's not directly related to either work or schoolwork lol.

How have you been?  Things were kind of rough for you back last time we talked.  I'm glad to see you're back to writing!

Well... better hop off for now - *groan* More work calls.  God bless, and have a fantastic day!

-James

Oh, my gosh! So much has happened!

It's so good to hear from you! Congratulations on your family and all of your successes!

I got married last year and graduated in 2012 with a BA in Biochem. Now I have a job as a lab analyst at a pretty well known private company. I wish I was in grad school, but unfortunately, I can't afford that right now.

Things with my family are still kinda eh. For a bit I would go to lunch with my dad on occasion, but I haven't done that in a while. Now, one of my brothers is trying to make amends by going to dinner with me sometimes. Also, my older brother seems to be talking to me more.

I haven't really gotten back into the poetry side of things like I was in college, but I did finish two more novels. I actually started writing them when I went to rewrite Manassas earlier this year. Let's just say I got really distracted! Haha!

Anyway, it's soooooo good to hear from you! God bless and you have an even more fantastic day!

Ahhh, distraction.  Such a beautiful thing sometimes - depending, of course, on what's distracting you!

I'm REALLY happy to hear you got married!  Of course, I've got all the standard questions (how did y'all meet, how did he propose, etc) lol!

I'm really kind of wondering about my own drive to do graduate school... I know I need to (in order to be competitive with my peers on exit from the military), but I'm really starting to burn out on schools comprising of online portions.  Meh... 1st world problems, eh?

Glad to hear you're starting to talk more with at least one of your brothers.  I know it'll take time, just try to not let things completely go.  *sigh* I'm still trying to figure out how to fix things with my oldest (turned 15 in April), who won't talk to me anymore.  Can't really blame him - I made a pretty harsh choice when it came to dealing with him dropping a false report with CPS on my wife and I, and I'm certain he hasn't forgiven me for that choice.  All the same though, I've left the door to talk open... still hurts that he won't walk through.

Meh - guess I'm waxing melancholic today.  Must be a lack of caffeine... which I'll have to rectify immediately.  Oh... if you can't tell, I'm not on here too frequently these days.  I can be more easily reached on Facebook under sharscombe@msn.com; feel free to toss a friend request my way if you're ever on there.  Take care, enjoy that new spouse of yours, and have an even more fantastically fantastic day :-P!

Haha, yeah distractions... curses! and aw, kittehs!

My husband and I met at my martial arts dojo. We were actually training partners because we both started around the same time. We were good friends for about 3 years before we started dating. Two years after that during class, he told me to throw him to the ground, so I did... and he proposed while I had him in a wrist lock.

I can imagine online courses can get on your nerves sometimes. I've never had a completely online course before, but those first world problems can really get ya sometimes. Good luck with finding your drive again! You never know where you might find it... I've been there haha.

I'm sorry to hear about your son. That sounds like it was an awful situation. I'm sure he will come around eventually. I mean, he's only 14, so there is plenty of time for him to understand where you stand. Just as long as he feels like you are open to him talking to you again. I can't imagine what that might feel like though. I mean, I'm sure my mom feels like that about me, but like you, i've left the door open for her to talk.

I don't know how to search for ppl on facebook with their email... FB has changed so many times. Sigh... anyway, here's a link to my profile, so you feel free to send a request!

Cool beans, request sent (I'm James Schroeder, for when you see the friend request... same picture as is now on my DeviantArt :-D)

Wow... that's one heck of a proposal lol.  Definitely sounds like you found your other half, and that you two are a really good match.  And, by the fact that it still came, you couldn't have hurt him TOO badly lol!

As to my oldest son... *sigh* Yeah, it was a pretty awful situation from start to finish.  Thankfully, my 2 year old son and 6 month old daughter won't have to live through the unholy hell he was working on causing in our lives.  It was bad enough that Heather (my wife) had to go onto medication just to keep our daughter almost to term.  So... yeah, while the door's open, Motel 6 will leave the light on for him.

The curious bit about online courses as opposed to in-person classes is that the actual learning is better in the online classes... but I miss the face-to-face interaction with other students.  lol I suppose there's something to be said for hanging out.

Well, here's to hoping your fervently fantastically fantastic day morphs into a day filled with rainbows, unicorns, and stardust covering an already fervently fantastically fantastic day

request accepted!

Yeah, I totally didn't expect it either. He really pulled the wool over my eyes, and that's really hard to do. I mean, I had zero idea what was happening...

Oh my goodness... Yeah, it's a good thing your other kids aren't old enough to remember things yet. I'm sorry to hear that your wife had a hard pregnancy. But hey, in the end you were blessed with a daughter, so all things turn out well in their own time, and I'm sure the situation with your oldest will as well. All you can really do is pray for his safety and to be understanding.

Yeah, I would think the material would be more readily accessible online, but, like you say, I would miss the interaction!

So much happy!! And look! my icon already has a rainbow!

It is, in point of fact, all about rainbows and unicorns .

What's really funny... one of my co-workers and I managed to get that statement into a paper she turned in to the chain of command... and, in the paper, it made perfect sense.

Thank you, thank you.  Next show in just a few days!

That's pretty impressive !  Congratulations on the great creative work .

On your journal, you mentioned you have an inkling on who gave you the premium membership.  Out of curiosity, did you ever confirm your suspicions?

nah, i haven't tried. I've been given a premium thrice, and all three times it was right after someone started talking to me again... so.... I have my suspicions. I've very appreciative to this super nice person too. Like, super seriously~

SymbolicSight In reply to ThiranosTales [2014-12-11 03:22:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's well deserved.  Particularly after taking a look at some of your work - you were talented last time I talked to you... but the stuff I'm seeing now is seriously well polished .  Considering I spend most of my day reading the drivel that passes for reports from a bunch of folks who should have a decent college education, it's a nice break to cozy up to some of your short stories lol.

In other news, finally got the Christmas tree up and most of the presents wrapped, so it'll be ready for my wife and kids' return home  !

Yeah, I'm a little excited lol!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThiranosTales In reply to SymbolicSight [2014-12-11 04:23:08 +0000 UTC]

Aw, thanks! I'm actually quite fond of some of the stuff I've been putting out lately as well. A lot of it is stuff that has floated around in my head for a while and is just now surfacing. I noticed that last time I was active on here I did mostly poetry, but this time tends to be prose. I don't mind! I enjoy the practice! Now, if only I could get myself to practice art as well...

Christmas! Yay! Wife and kids! Yay! I don't have a Christmas tree lol. Don't have the money or space for it! But I do have presents! I need to wrap them; however...

Being excited about that stuff is totally okay!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SymbolicSight In reply to ThiranosTales [2014-12-13 01:58:32 +0000 UTC]

lol Well, at least your writing's been going well.  Mine... Not sure how exactly to describe it, but "standstill" and "calling out for Lassie from the bottom of a well" seem to fit fairly well   !

As for trees... lol Well, at least you've got the presents!  Heather (my wife) sent me a tiny little tree during my first Iraq deployment, complete with little handmade ornaments.  It fit inside one of those medium flat rate boxes too!    But it burned in an office fire before I could mail it back home.  Forget all the other stuff that burned up... that actually made me really sad for a while.

So... yeah... I tend to be excited these days about having a tree and presents.  Especially when it doesn't involve mortars, rockets, and bombs.  That makes for a really good Christmas lol.

ThiranosTales In reply to SymbolicSight [2014-12-13 02:08:51 +0000 UTC]

oh my gosh, that makes me sad just thinking about that little tree!

Yeah, i can imagine not worrying about explosions helps a bit xD Hopefully, you'll have an amazing Christmas with your tree and presents and family! I miss Christmas with my family. oh well, someday I'll have my own family to have Christmas with!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SymbolicSight In reply to ThiranosTales [2014-12-13 15:55:14 +0000 UTC]

lol Yes, one of these days there'll be plenty of fun and excitement with the pitter-patter of little feet.  But don't forget - you're married now.  The man who won your heart makes up that family of your very own right now...

Don't dismiss that idea quite so quickly.  Now's the time to start figuring out your traditions - those things you'll one day do with the kids (when the gifts get opened, what goes inside those stockings, who puts the angel/star/decoration on top of the tree - or whatever passes for the thing the presents go under, etc )... those traditions start now, and it's the two of you who decide what those traditions look like.

So... talk to him.  Figure out what he's thinking for Christmas (presuming you haven't already... something tells me you already have lol).  Then start having fun with making this Christmas special for the two of you... so when there's three (or four, or five, or however many you both decide is enough  lol) of you, it's sharing that special thing that started when girl pinned boy to the mat trying very hard not to hurt him too badly lol!

... okay, I'm having way too much fun with these new emotes...

ThiranosTales In reply to SymbolicSight [2014-12-13 17:36:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, he does make up my family, but he considers himself Jew-"ish", so he doesn't celebrate Christmas directly ... His family scares me because they are so big, but we usually hang out with them (used to be my Aunt and Uncle, but since my Great-aunt died, my aunt doesn't want to do holidays anymore.)

Heck, we don't even own any decorations for any holiday... Maybe someday when I actually get a house. That's my next big goal!

You make me laugh. XD Yeah, we already have a lot of little quirks, and someday I hope to get some holiday traditions going as well!

And, yes, emotes are the next best thing to sliced bread!

SymbolicSight In reply to ThiranosTales [2014-12-17 21:02:06 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, the joys of big families.  They can be pretty intimidating... I came from a pretty small one, and hanging out with my extended family always felt... well.. awkward.

Have y'all started talking about your dream house yet?  I pulled down a design app a while back and started doing up floor plans for the fun of it... I strongly suspect now that she won't settle for anything less than one of the plans she's already approved lol.

This is the first year we've successfully (so far) done an Advent calendar... I'm convinced it's only working so far because my son and daughter are so far away at the moment that it was a way for us to connect and do something together daily.  lol I'm also fairly certain he's completely clueless on that aspect - all he sees is the chocolate.

Enjoy the holidays, and try not to stress too much .  The biggest part of the fun is discovering all this as you go along .

ThiranosTales In reply to SymbolicSight [2014-12-18 01:57:08 +0000 UTC]

haha, i've built my dream house on the sims before, but, yeah, i know that's never going to happen haha. Right now I just want to have a three bedroom with a yard for the dogs. I'd prefer a garage, too... We're hoping to get a house next year. We tried this year, but fedloans was not working with me to get the numbers for the bank I needs. I have to wait until the beginning of the year for that.

I did a candy cane advent when I was younger. And, yeah, that's pretty much all i saw as a kid too haha.

SymbolicSight In reply to ThiranosTales [2014-12-29 22:34:10 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like fun .  Though I am sorry to hear about the house bit... that's a bummer.  I tried building my dream house in the Sims a while back (like, previous marriage kind of while back lol).  But... well, Google had a drafting app a while back that I used to design a house .

Garages are nice - especially on cold mornings  ! It's nice to be able to go out into a warm place to get into the car (particularly in places like, oh, Alaska!).

SymbolicSight In reply to ThiranosTales [2014-12-30 05:01:19 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean.  The only reason it made sense to me was thanks to about six months worth of misguided college experience when I was working on a degree in drafting and design technology.  It's a Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) program... which, while the individual commands may change, what they're trying to do never shifts far from what you do using pen, paper, and scales.

Of course, whether it's realistic for actually building it is a whole different question !
