I think the key of being active is simply to enjoy it. I've been active on dA for over a year now and I still enjoy it. Not on an everyday basis, but enough to keep me going.

I guess getting faves and comments on your profile and artwork is a way to enjoy dA... But it takes a while to get from an unknown artist to that stage.

Haha, I was active for a good... two years I think?

Being a well-known artist means two things: good art and connections.

I really don't have anything to post though, since I'm mainly into music, taking AP Music Theory, and I'm only starting to take Photography this year, though I've had some ideas in the past. I took art through middle school, but my art skills have... degraded shall I say? :/ And I really haven't spent the time to learn digital art styles.

When I first joined I didn't have anything to post expect random doodles. But after a while I discovered emotes and it's been my main art form ever since.
