Hey, Tofu. Need advice. I think I dug myself a hole. I need a friends at the local area. I started up a university comic club. It was okay at first. five people was sort of okay. Then it became 10 people. Even better! Different personalities. Now it's 25 people. Now I hate everybody, because if one person is negative, it affects everybody. These are artists. They're already cynical enough. Just listening to them talk is unnerving. some of them don't do their work on time, since we're working on an anthology comic series together. I have big dreams for submitting a comic newspaper around the university. I'm getting them to do that. I'm essentially being a publisher, editor, producer, etc. This is a lot of work. This is fine. They're having fun. They get free food and return for submitting their work to the university, so I can go and advertise and create a platform for them to have exposure. Super cool. I signed up for grants So we have funding to print books. It's good experience.
EXPERIENCE THAT THEY DON'T EVEN WANT TO HELP WITH??? these students talk about wanting to get jobs as graphic designers and they're unsure of their lives. Yet they're in a club that gives them so much experience, but they don't even help!
Every time I ask for help with anything, you don't have to have special experience to help me with something for example like figuring out what food the club should eat for the next week...Helping with the social media, helping me graphic design with ideas, etc I don't get much of a reply on Discord. Right now, they're busy complaining about how they don't like to be at home and they have anxiety, and life is sad, etc. Yeah, we all know life is sad, you've been saying that all year. There's stuff happening right in front of you. I feel like I'm handling an entire psychological associates mental office here and also a publishing company, because of these kids. ARTISTS ARE WHACK. COLLEGE ARTISTS ARE WHACK!
Do you have advice for how to get these kids to give back a little more and be more motivated, or should I just nuke this club? I probably should. I'm better at starting initiatives and then making sure everybody knows how it should work for a couple years, and then I leave. I really don't like to stay for long. That should probably be the plan. See? Just talking to you like this... I know what the plan is.
going to stay in the club for as long as I can for about one more year. Then I'm going to quit and go back to the hermit lifestyle.
Also, everybody is freaking out over this quarantine shenanigans and giving feedback about how to survive it. Site, us introverted kids... This is the time of our lives! I'm just trying to make sure some of the internships that I have for the summer before I start my doctorate actually exists, because the coronavirus is messing up some things. But I know I've saved up some money so that I don't necessarily have to work for this summer. But it's kind of depressing to not work over the summer and not have classes.

Oh Jesus, that's a situation you got there lol. From my experience, the more people you have, the less likely people are to take initiative and do things themselves, so you or whoever will be in charge will literally have to assign them tasks. If they can't complete the tasks, why are they even in this club? And asking for help to an overall crowd will rarely get responses unless you have a few strong personality extroverted types that will take the lead by themselves.
Do you have any kind of second-in-command type of person in your club? It's pretty overwhelming to oversee everything by yourself, so it might be easier if you have certain people oversee certain tasks and split up the work so someone would be in charge of food, someone else would be in charge of social media. If your goal is to have the club sustain itself after you're gone, you might want to start off small so that there's structure and that people know what and how to do things. Since you're overseeing everything, my guess is that everyone is probably thinking, "Oh Butts will handle everything! She can do anything!" so they'll slack off or lose motivation to contribute.
I guess if there's nothing else to be done....lol nuke the club....
Hoping this quarantine thing blows over before the summer. I, unfortunately, do not know what quarantine feels like outside my regular lifestyle because my company believes they're an essential so we are still physically going in to work. I'm not sure how we're still open considering we are running out of supplies for everything, but gaming nerds need their gaming PCs.
Animal Crossing is fun though.

I know I can be quite abrasive and straightforward with my opinions, but I am THIS close to metaphorically flipping a table on my masters of communications peers for being so flipping low critical thinking and narrowminded about the world. Don't say crap about the world like "Doctors only do this so they can make money off of this." And I will be open-minded and ask them why they think that, and they have no sources. Nothing. They just said they read it up somewhere. And I would say where? And they said they don't know, but they say "everyone knows that though." And I told them "there's a study out there that shows that doctors and pharmacy people don't get that much money from the cut for drug companies at all." And they just stare at you and just say "well, for the OTHERS, they're just manipulating you for the money." Yeah, then I can say that about communications people. If I decide to just meet some of you guys and then say "yeah, most communication specialist have a 3.4 GPA. The rest only got in because they couldn't succeed in the other departments." That's some of them, but not all of them. YEAH, WELL, SOME OF THEM HAVE BEEN LIKE THAT, SO I GO AHEAD AND JUST MAKE THAT STATEMENT ABOUT ALL COMMUNICATION MAJORS. THEY SAY CRAP LIKE THIS ABOUT RANDOM THINGS THAT THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND OR HAVEN'T RESEARCHED, LIKE ARCHEOLOGY, MEDICINE, MATHEMATICS, ETC. IT'S REALLY ON THE PROFESSORS THAT DO THEIR FREAKING RESEARCH. THE KIDS WOULD DO THEIR RESEARCH IF THEY'RE FORCED TO. WHAT THE HECK IS THAT WITH THESE PEOPLE?!
AND I THINK THIS IS ACTUALLY HIGH-LEVEL CONSULTING ADVICE. THESE GUYS ARE GOING TO BE THE COMMUNICATION PROFESSIONALS OF THE WORLD. THEY'RE GOING TO BE ADVISING COMPANIES, DUMB COMPANIES THAT THINK THESE MASTERS OF COMMUNICATIONS PEOPLE ARE PROFESSIONALS, ON HOW CUSTOMERS THINK, OR ON HOW COMPETITORS WILL DO. now, I know. I knew this already, but I truly verified it. Why did I expect anything else, or anything DIFFERENT? Just because you have a master's degree doesn't mean you're a master at it. Heck, just because you're a PhD doesn't necessarily mean you're an expert at it. It just means that you went through that much schooling and suffering to claim you do. You'd have to prove it your own way!
I can't help but to be disappointed in the level of people here. I really like the education and the teachers. It's just... Me having to deal with the kids... Oh my God. Did you enjoy the people in college?
Okay, maybe you really really despised it, lol. But was there anyone you liked, and why? If I really really really thought hard... I think... I'm mostly enjoyed the professors and students that taught. That was about it, hahaha! Oooh boy, I've been sitting on this comment for a long time, mainly 'cause I didn't know how to respond to it LOL. Honestly, you're gonna have people like that no matter where you go. Just 'cause they're in college don't mean they got in via critical thinking lol. Maybe they were just lucky. But the best solution to dealing with these people isn't ignoring them, or trying to change their world views. No, silly things like that don't work. You gotta do it the way the Ancient Chinese did it 5000 years ago. You gotta go to a rooftop and scrape any cat poop you find there. It has to be cat poop. Bird poop will just make them turn green. Then you gotta boil that shit, and then sneak it into their waters. Within the next 3 days, they'll either grow wings and fly away to the Motherland, or they'll get really really sick. I don't know, results may vary.
You know, this makes a lot of sense now. I always thought consultants were just people who talked out of their own asses because they were good at it. We recently hired an consultant to train our team to improve production efficiency, and he legit has not introduced anything new or mind-blowing. He just reiterated things we've all complained about, but the company refuses to take action on it until someone else from the outside says it. Even then, not much has changed....But I digress, my coworker put it in terms that resonated with me really well. "We need consultants because they're strangers that can tell you everything that you're doing wrong from the first glance." Not to downplay the work that they do....but literally anyone can do that. LOL
I did not like people in college. I cannot tell if it's because I hated college culture, or if I just never left my edgy phase. Could be both, honestly. I only really liked three people, one was a professor 'cause he was pretty chill and easy to talk to and explained things easily enough. The other two were both classmates in different classes. One was a girl from Germany, and we were in the same curriculum so it was easy to share notes if needed and do study groups. The other guy was actually a grad student, so he was much older than the rest of us, but we were in high-level classes that were shared between undergrad and grad students, and we did two gaming projects together. But I realized most people that I was able to tolerate in college were kind of people who didn't feel the need to prove anything. Maybe it was my school, but a lot of people just felt like they were trying to sound smarter than they actually were, or trying to sound larger than the life they were living.
Huh, now that I think about it, I think I kinda deviated from your point. But you also right. I did enjoy hanging out with people who had something to teach. If it was someone I could learn actual, applicable knowledge from, I'm good. I don't care much about whatever they do or whoever they do.
