Yeah, I was thinking the SAME THINK with respect to the Water Tribe characters.

They have no definite race, it's more like they are ambiguously brown. However, if we want to put a label on them, considering the heavy Asian influence on atla, I would say they were more Inuit (eskimo), only with blue eyes.

But Inuit people still have brown skin.

Most of the time, when faced with direct light, dark skin tones will lighten tremendously. My own skin (I'm black) looks like a tanned caucasian person's if I'm under the right lighting.
