Thanks so much!  I don't get much chance to get online anymore, plus most of my day to day stuff is covered by NDA's now.

But I'll update the page with some new stuff soon.

...anyways, I'm kinda rambling now. That's all I wanted to say, because you really do deserve more people watching you/viewing your work on here.

haha stress is my middle name!

I'm a storyboard artist in London UK, the company I work for do alot of international work too, and lately that's been my arena. I've had a lot of stuff going out to Abu Dhabi and Italy the last few weeks. It's pretty amazing to think that something I've done has travelled so far - and moreover is LIKED! I've only been doing it since January this year, so it's astonishing for me to come this far in such a short period of time you know?

even though it's stressful, I love it, and wouldn't change it for the world!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

T-Eight In reply to TehBeardedOne [2013-06-19 15:57:38 +0000 UTC]

hahah didn't know that ur middle name is "stress" So Mr. TehBeradedOne alias Stess it sounds AWESOME if I hear you travelled a lot around the world.

Now I'm a bit jealous. How was Abu Dhabi or Italy?! It's also sounds awesome that you are currently working on international projects. that's absolutely cool

So you graduated from University or are u a self-taught artist?!

wish you a lot of fun while traveling
cheers

TehBeardedOne In reply to T-Eight [2013-06-21 11:21:25 +0000 UTC]

haha yeah, stress is my middle name!! Actually, my nickname at work is SLASH haha

No no, sorry if I mislead you, no I work in London, and my work is sent remotely to other countries. I stay back in rainy old london while the work is seen in sunnier climbs.

I graduated from uni, but uni didn't help me get here at all, I was seriously lucky to know someone on the inside (in a roundabout way)

I wish I was travelling, that'd be AWESOME!!!

All the best mate.

T-Eight In reply to TehBeardedOne [2013-06-22 11:04:25 +0000 UTC]

but remember ur life shouldn't be too stressful. I guess that's not good for health! U know haha.

well SLASH. errr... why is your nickname at work slash?! It's a bit weird - tell me the story plz.

ah okay well I misunderstood that. Oki doki now I understand that "ur work" and not yourself are traveling around the globe haha. That's sad, isn't it
Honestly I really like to see London one time. Never been there before.

what was your degree course at UNI? yea it's always a good thing if you know someone who work at that industry u know

sure if you finally got holidays you can travel around the globe. what would be your holiday destination?

(sorry for ma bad english!) *x*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TehBeardedOne In reply to T-Eight [2013-06-25 08:51:39 +0000 UTC]

The Slash nickname is a long story, but I'll break it down to small chunks.

My name is Andrew. One of the guys at the office asked the manager how 'Alan' was doing in his new job (that's me he's referring to) and then the name 'Alan' stuck with me for a couple of months. Then one day, a job came into the office and one of the project managers asked what Alan - Slash - Andrew was doing. (Meaning Alan/Andrew) and from there - Slash has stuck. lol. I don't mind really. Plus it means I can come to work wearing a large leather top hat and sunglasses - ala Slash from Guns n Roses. haha.

London's great if you get decent weather - today is lovely, but if it's grey or raining it can be really depressing.

Yeah I did my degree at university, I had a great time but I wish I'd done a different course - illustration instead of graphic design, but I got pushed into graphic design by my family and tutors at college... that said, I'm happy where I am, so I guess I can't complain

holiday destination? Not a damned clue. I've been thinking of somewhere to go for a holiday but I really can't decide. There's so many beautiful places in the world that I can't decide where I wanna see first y'know?

No problem about the English, I deal with people who have a far worse grasp of the language than you

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

T-Eight In reply to TehBeardedOne [2013-06-29 08:37:34 +0000 UTC]

hahha so should I say hello Andrew Slash Alan?!

Oh what a funny story. and now u have a new nickname. That's cool.
why u change ur DA user name into slash?! that would be fit with your office name haha.

haha well if u will wear a large leather top and sunglasses - I like to see a picture!!!!

sure if u have great weather each place is wonderful but if it's cold, rainy etc. each city, village will be boring and ugly! What could I do if I decide to visit London. Honestly I like to see Scotland - heared it's a wonderful place with awesome landscape etc.?!

Is that right that you have to pay a lot of fees if you study at UK? I know a illustrator from UK and he said to me it's just too expensive to study there! Well after I checked out your gallery again I can say you would be also a great illustrator.
but also a good environment artists I guess.

Well if u don't know where to go in your holidays I make the decision for you haha. What about the beautiful Bavaria?! Everyone knows Munich, Bavarian beer, Oktoberfest, and a lot of other great places and you would know a guy who live there! haha but if u prefer the sea and sandy beach u have to visit another country.

oh that's a good motivation if u understand my English.
How's your work going on?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TehBeardedOne In reply to T-Eight [2013-07-16 07:47:25 +0000 UTC]

lolol

we'll see about the picture, I might break the internet if I posted one.

Truthfully I haven't been to Scotland; I have family there and have always wanted to go, but have yet to make it.  That's something to go on my bucket-list!

To be honest, I don't think it's that expensive - looking solely at course costs.  It's the price of living that makes it expensive; though that's the same everywhere I guess.

Lol I've never been a huge fan of sand sea and surf, so that sounds great haha!

Your English is more than good enough - there's many English people I know who don't speak it as well as you!

Work's going well thanks!

How's the project going?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

T-Eight In reply to TehBeardedOne [2013-07-20 13:48:31 +0000 UTC]

well but I like to see somethin' new you created! Maybe u will find some free time (if u get one cuz u are workin' the whole day I guess)

You work as storyboard artist, isn't it?! I mean in which style do u draw. cartoony or realistic?!

oh man u should pack ur bag and have a trip to Scotland if u have the ability to do that. I needed a lot more time to travel to Scotland. So visit ur family and have some great time and make some pic's! hehe like to see one u know.

anyway didn't know that the course costs are not that expensive I excepted! Did u know that u can study Game Design for free?! @ Berlin the national University offers a 3 year Game Design course for free. And the lectures are sometimes @ English. that's awesome isn't it?! The only sad point about that whole Game Design thing is that u have to write a qualifying examination existing at a "homework" - the university is sending u a topic f.e. "Star Fire" and u have to create a "portfolio" and if that portfolio will accept the criteria u get a interview! Not sure if I should try to do this and study Game Design. Would be great what do u think? the good point is u can study Game Design at ever age so if u are 45 years old u can also study it hehe.

YEA that sounds great. so if u like to travel to Bavaria and have some holidays here - I can show u some great sights like Schloss Neuschwanstein, Munich, Chimsee, etc. hehe oh and u can also drink Bavarian Beer - did u drunk Bavarian beer before?

okay enough about that. The project is going well. Nearly ready to publish it on Kickstarter and my works almost done.

do u visited the San Diego Comic Con?! Never was on a CC before. Like to see it sometimes!

cheers.

TehBeardedOne In reply to T-Eight [2013-07-25 16:47:17 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah I'm working pretty constantly at the moment.

As for style, I've been doing all sorts lately, most of it is what they refer to as 'line and colour' - essentially a line drawing with flat colour and a bit of lighting effects, that's the easy stuff, I can probably turn around 30 per day.

Then there's the 'High Finish' line and colour, which is close to something that you'd see on a comic cover, similar in quality to does - these are maybe 4 per day?

then the stuff I've recently been doing is 'photoreal' which is literally what it sounds like:  make an illustration that looks like a professionally shot photograph - I had one job this week where I had to make 18 of them in 2 days - to put it bluntly I was f**ked; I didn't sleep for the entire 2 days, I literally worked for 48 hours straight to get them done.  That said, I finished them on time, and the client loved them!  So it's all good fun

Scotland is definately on my list of things to do man, for sure!

I never knew that about the Game Design course - that's awesome!  That said, I don't know if I'd do it.  I don't know what the course is like out where you are, but what I've read in the media is that games design courses don't teach the skills or 'thinking' that you actually need to design and build videogames, so alot of industry figures are recommending that people who want to get into the industry DON'T use those courses.   It's hard though, because you want to expand your knowledge and learn skills that are going to help you, but if there's already a feeling that games companies don't want people with Game Design Degrees - then what's the point of doing one in the first place?

That said, the best way to find out if it's right is going to be to ask people who have graduated the course, see if they're working in the industry - if there's a high percentage of them, then the odds are that the course is worth doing!

I don't think I've ever drunk Bavarian beer, but I think that'd be awesome!

Kickass man, that's what we like to hear; once it's up there let me know!

I've never been to a comic con, always wanted to though - that's another for the bucketlist haha

well first of all so sorry for my delayed answer. some things going on here and I had a lot of busy days u know

so first of all I have to tell u that I will start studying computer science at UNI near home!

oh wow 30 per day - u are a working machine are u haha. u know what I mean.

'photoreal' images looking awesome but honestly I guess these ones need a very long time to finish it. Never did one before but I think you will use a lot of reference pieces to create a photoreal piece?!

18 pieces of photoreal in only 2 days. HOnestly that's impossible to reach that goal but ey ... proud that u reached it and worked so hard. where can I see ur photoreal images?!

Thanks for telling me what u thinking about that Game Design courses. sure these are very interesting informations but for that time I guess I have to focus on studying computer science. hopefully I will like it haha.

some days ago I recognized that the gamescom is celebrating this year right NOW! sadly i have the time and money to get a ticket to visit the gamescom at Köln. I guess it's at Köln/Germany BUT for sure I will buy a ticket for the next 2014 gamescom. Also like to check out Comic Con one time. Must be a great time to visit some huge celebrations like Comic Con or gamescom.

TehBeardedOne In reply to T-Eight [2013-09-05 08:58:52 +0000 UTC]

No worries man, I get it completely (thus my own late reply!)

Photoreal is kinda cool, but only if you have REALLY good reference / stock to use, if not it's soooooo hard to do lol!  Alot of time the process is close to matte painting - there's some great tutorials here on DA , so it's not too hard, just time consuming... and you have to know exactly what the outcome is you're looking for.

At the moment I can't show anything, the work I do is often for agency pitches and things that don't make it to the public arena for months at a time, so I never really know when I can show anything - it's a perk of the job lol!!

Computer science is a great subject, not only because it's pretty interesting (and challenging) but it also can lead to loads of other stuff too - pretty good choice if you ask me

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

T-Eight In reply to TehBeardedOne [2013-09-22 08:06:51 +0000 UTC]

ahahaha if you allowed to post some photoreal pieces you HAVE TO SEND ME THE LINK. can't wait to see it.

Well at October I'll start studying computer science but if I'M 100% honest to myself I don't like to do that. It was just the only way to do somethin' and not sitting at home! So I would rather like to do art the whole day. Hm.... bad bad.

I know matte painting. the art of the prof's are mind-blowing of course.

At the moment I started to studying the core fundamentals: perspective, human anatomy, light and shadow cuz I'm sick of seeing my artwork and hoping it'll looks good. I like to a prof so I have to learn that. I wrote down a timetable and each day (evening/night) I'll study at least one hour.

so and what about you? some news etc. what happened at your work/london etc.? cheers dude.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TehBeardedOne In reply to T-Eight [2013-10-01 07:21:30 +0000 UTC]

If you want the best knowledge and technique to learn from, you have to go back to the original tutors - my friend at work told me about this:

it's a couple of books you can get online for not alot of money (well.... they're pretty cheap in the UK, not sure about the mainland!!)

Creative Illustration by Andrew Loomis

Figure Drawing For All It's Worth by Andrew Loomis

The Human Machine by George Bridgeman

these books have literally EVERYTHING you could want to learn about how to draw, from the basics of perspective and composition (loomis) to how each joint in the body bends and reacts to each other (Bridgeman)  - I'm reading them now; and it's crazy how far my drawing's come since I started!

lol no news from me at really, just working too hard and playing too little!

ey dude

sooooo sorry for that delayed answer. things are really busy these days and I started studying computer science and totally hate it

well also try to improve my art skills (3D/2D).

Yea I know Andrew Loomis - a awesome artist. Currently studying Human Figure Drawing + Head and Hand drawing by Andrew Loomis.

Found a pdf-file on the internet and it's great cuz also use some other human anatomy books for artists as references.

well and what about you. something new happened to you?
