I learned that while in USA and Canada, there's Santa Claus who gives presents to children on the night before Christmas, in Italy, it's this woman on a flying broomstick who does that, on one of the nights in January. Tell me if you know about her.

Hi!
Yes, yes, I do. She is called "Befana" (old hag, witch) and is an old woman wearing worn out garments who comes the night before the Epiphany, which is January the 6th, bringing sweets and toys to the good children and coal for the bad ones. The myth has pagan origins and over time was merged with the Epiphany, the day the Three Kings bring gifts to the baby jesus.
Actually in Italy there are both Santa and the Befana (mostly in the south of the country) and the chid are quite happy.

I asked a similar question to FedericoMemola and he told me that there are different holiday traditions in different parts of Italy, but also, nowadays, Santa is famous in the country.

is right. For instance, in the northwest of Italy there is the tradition of saint Lucy who brings toys and sweets on December the 13th if I recall correctly.
Basically, 60-70 years ago italian families became adding Santa Claus to their local ancient traditions (I believe it began to happen after WWII with the meeting with american colture).
